We will be in contact to arrange training and logins for the system once it has gone live. 1

CHANNEL 5 PRODUCTION MUSIC LIBRARIES MCPS PRODUCTION LIBRARY MUSIC Further to the new Channel 5 blanket agreement which commences on the 1 st of January 2016, producers will be able to use repertoire from any MCPS registered production library. The rights clear for all media worldwide and in perpetuity. Please note: MCPS Production Library Music can be used as signature and background music, and is cleared all media, worldwide and in perpetuity. PRS ONLY MUSIC LIBRARIES EPIDEMIC SOUND Channel 5 s deal with Epidemic Sound expired on the 31 st of December Please make sure you do not dub any Epidemic Sound catalogue into your programmes from the 1 st of January 2016 onwards. MASSTRAX MUSIC LTD Masstrax is a catalogue of emerging/unsigned UK artists who are regularly receiving airplay on the country's biggest radio stations (BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music, BBC 1Xtra, XFM, Kerrang!, NME Radio & Q Radio amongst others) & are regularly playing major UK/European music festivals (Leeds/Reading. Glastonbury, Latitude, The Great Escape, T In The Park etc). The Masstrax catalogue is currently being used on a daily basis on TV productions worldwide on shows such as Hollyoaks, Made In Chelsea, Skins, Gossip Girl, The Real L Word, Parenthood, Heart Of Dixie & many, many others. Instrumentals are available and the team will happily collate playlists for your project. Please note: This catalogue can be used as signature and background music and is cleared worldwide and in perpetuity. Included in the collection is over 800 classical live recordings of orchestral, solo instrument, choral and operatic works. They have over 90 albums worth of contemporary content to date and the catalogue is expanding rapidly so there is always fresh and exciting music for your productions. Register for an account and get access to all the tracks. Please note: This catalogue can be used as signature and background music and is cleared worldwide and in perpetuity. 4 Channel 5 does not have a blanket agreement with Audio Network for programmes made by independent producers. However, as long as you have a valid licence in place with Audio Network, you can use their music in programmes that you deliver to Channel 5 provided no cost is charged back to Channel 5. AUDIO NETWORK LIMITED As of October 2015 Audio Network stands at 100,000 tracks in every conceivable style, composed by over 450 composers many of whom are well known. The music is of an exceptionally high standard and is recorded at Abbey Road and Air Studios with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & other major bands and ensembles. We also record authentic music all over the world, most especially in Nashville, New Orleans and Chicago. The company is growing fast with around new albums released every month. We continue to make substantial investment in new music and live players. Our website is quick and easy to use and our customer service is excellent. 5 3. MUSIC CUE SHEET FIELDS SUMMARY For examples on how music should be reported, please refer to the cue sheet on page 9. Time Codes Time codes must not be overlapped or duplicated a red error message will appear if this occurs. Music / Video Title Please input the registered music title as it appears on the PRSforMusic database / library website. When reporting commissioned music, please use one main music title which appears on the composer s contractual agreement. This is normally the programme title or how the composer has registered the work with PRSforMusic. By keeping to the one title, it will make reporting easier for you and result in faster royalty payments to the composer and publisher. Do not add opening titles, end of part, closing titles, sting etc in the music title field as the source code indicates this. For all other music types, please ensure that you are reporting the actual music piece title and not the CD title, track number, music file name or the scene description. Source Code (indicates type of music or recording) Selecting the source code determines exactly which fields you need to complete: mandatory fields are denoted with an orange star. Anything that is not required will be greyed out. Composer(s) and Arranger(s) Please ensure that you enter the Surname and the First Name in the separate fields and then click the Add button. If there are multiple composers or arrangers, each will need to be entered separately. The Arranger is ONLY required for non-copyrighted compositions falling within the Public Domain. These works have an original composer, and also the person who has arranged it. (For example, classical works that have fallen out of copyright). Publisher(s) Please only input the final share publishers as they appear on the PRSformusic database. All publishers must be inputted separately. Performer(s) These should be reported as Surname, First Name. Band names should be entered in the Surname field only. Please note: If you need to log the details of the performer for a Live Performance (P) or a Karaoke version (P), these details can be added to the Music Rights Page, as this information is not needed on the cue sheet for these particular codes in our reports to the Copyright Societies. 5

6 Record / Video Company Label Please make sure you report the label from the artist s CD album or CD single. Please note: You must check to ensure that the record label is a PPL member to clear under the Channel 5 PPL Blanket Agreement. If a label is not a PPL member, it is your responsibility to clear and pay the record company in order to obtain a Synchronisation & Broadcast Licence with additional rights for online use. To check that a commercial label is a PPL member, please check on the PPL website: &_adf.ctrl-state=5xxtlhb99_14 Film Soundtrack Music: The use of specially composed music from original film soundtrack recordings is not covered by our PPL blanket agreement. If you wish to use an original soundtrack recording, this must be cleared with the label. However, if the music has been re-recorded by another PPL record label (e.g. Silva Screen) these are okay to use. Record / Video Number We can only accept CD catalogue numbers or ISRC numbers for commercial music tracks. Promotional Music Videos: Promo Video numbers ISRC (International Standard Recording code) are normally composed of 12 characters for example GB ISRC numbers can be obtained from the VPL website: &_adf.ctrl-state=7ztnmx87f_9 Karaoke Recordings: If you use karaoke recordings in your production, you must ensure that you obtain a synchronisation license from the karaoke company direct and then music contained within that karaoke recording must then be cleared under your IPC agreement. Please report the following fields for Karaoke recordings under Source code P: Title Composer Publisher Label Catalogue number Use Code (F) Duration Fill in all fields apart from the performer field. The performer details can be added to the Music Rights page and are not needed on the cue sheet. 6

INTRODUCTION TO OUR SYSTEM On your Programme Home Page, there are three stages which tell you the status of the cue sheet you are inputting: Stage One: Not Started Stage Two: Save (as) Draft In Progress Stage Three: Save and Complete Completed Please note: Mandatory fields are highlighted with an orange star. Having all your music cue information to hand will help you navigate and complete the cue sheet more quickly. 8

HOW TO INPUT YOUR FIRST MUSIC CUE To input the first cue, click on create the first item. 6.1 Time Codes & Durations The auto tab function takes you across all time code fields and automatically calculates the duration per cue line. 6.2 Music / Video Title Please input the registered music title as it appears on the PRSforMusic database / library website. 6.3 Source Code Selecting the drop down menu determines exactly which fields you need to complete: anything mandatory will be denoted by an orange star anything not required will be greyed out Please note: all of the non MCPS buyout libraries listed on pages 3 to 5 need to be entered as Studio Recordings (Source code R) 6.4 Composers All composers must be inputted separately in the format Surname, First Name Examples: Lennon, John McCartney, Paul Input Surname Click the tab button this takes you to First Name field. Input First name You must then click add this transfers details into the right hand box. Please note: All details must appear in the right hand box otherwise they will not appear on the final cue sheet. To remove composer details from the right hand box: highlight entry in the box and then click the remove button. To input additional composers, click into the surname field to repeat the process. 9

10 6.5 Arrangers This field is not mandatory and is ONLY required for non-copyrighted compositions falling within the Public Domain. These works have an original composer, and also the person who has arranged it. (For example, classical works that have fallen out of copyright). 6.6 Publishers Please input the final share publishers as they appear on the PRSformusic database. All publishers must be inputted individually. Please note: If the work is unpublished, please enter MS into this field. This indicates that the work is Manuscript, with all rights retained by the composer. Click into Publisher field Input the final share publisher name You must then click add this transfers details into the right hand box. To input additional publishers, click back into publisher field to repeat the process. 6.7 Performer These details are only required when reporting a Commercial Disc or Promotional Music Video. (N.B. performer details are not required for Library Production Music, Studio Recordings including karaoke and Live Performances) All Performers must be inputted individually: Examples: Surname, first name: Lennon, John Band name: Rolling Stones Click into Performer field You must then click add this transfers details into the right hand box. To input additional performers, click back into Performer field to repeat the process. 6.8 Record / Video Company Label Just the main name needs to be entered for Commercial Discs, Library Production Music, Karaoke Recordings and Promotional Music Videos Examples: (C ) Virgin (L ) KPM (R ) Sunfly (V) Island 10

11 6.9 Record Catalogue (PPL) / Video No (VPL) These details are required for Commercial Discs, Library Production Music, Karaoke Recordings and Promotional Music Videos. Examples: (C ) (L ) KPM138 (R ) SF007 (V ) GB Use Code Use the drop down menu to select your code. Background (B) applies when music has been added to your programme in the edit Featured (F) applies when the music is audible to the action on the screen. Some examples: A live performance with artists and performers in vision Promotional Music Videos artists appear visually on the screen Music being played out into the studio and is audible to the characters on screen Signature (S) applies to opening /closing theme music, end /start of part bumpers as well as programme stings Sponsorship (M) is only applicable if the music is played under the programme sponsorship logo Options Once the Use Code Is Entered Add Cue Line to Form & Start New Cue Line This option allows you to continue inputting further cue lines. Once selected, scroll to the top of the next screen and a summary of your cue line will be displayed. You will now also have the flexibility to delete, copy or edit these details. 11

12 Add Cue Line to Form (click this to access save options) Selecting this will display two save option buttons: SAVE DRAFT- select this if you wish to continue inputting at a later date SAVE AND COMPLETE select this when you have completed your cue sheet. This option takes the user back to the episode home page where the cue sheet status has now changed to completed. Please note: You have to assign a version name or number first in order to save your music cue sheet, whether the cue sheet is work in progress or completed. It can be as minimal as just one letter or number To amend or edit a cue sheet after saving it: Go to your Episode Home page Under the header PAC FORM click the wording Music Cue Sheet this is a hyperlink On the following page, click the edit button This allows you to access the cue sheet again to make changes. The same process can be followed to make changes to the Music Rights page. Please note: Once the PAC form has been formally submitted, no changes can be made to the form until it is rejected by Channel 5. Comments: On the inputting page, you will see a drop down header entitled versions (at the top left under the PAC Music Cue Sheet banner) - this is where your saved versions of the music cue sheet will be displayed. This gives you a history of the cue sheet progress however, you will only be able to access the last saved version. 12

13 7. COPYING FUNCTIONS ON OUR SYSTEM 7.1 Copying Cue Lines within a Cue Sheet If you wish to copy a cue line within an episode: Input all the details for your first cue line. After completion, click Add Cue Line To Form and Start New Cue Scroll to the top of the next screen and a summary of your cue line will be displayed On the left hand side, the copy button should be selected - scroll down and this information now re-appears in your inputting fields To create the new entry, input your new time code Click the necessary Add cue line to form option to either continue with your cue sheet or to save and complete it 7.2 Copying Cue Sheets within a Series Please note: You can only copy cue sheets across a series if the original source cue sheet has completed status. Go to your Episode Home page Under the header PAC FORM click the wording Music Cue Sheet this is a hyperlink On the following page, the Copy Options button appears un-greyed at the bottom of the cue sheet summary Select Copy Options the following screen lists the episodes within the series In the Select column, tick all episodes to which you wish to copy the information After selecting the episodes, click Copy Now Confirmation is displayed on the next screen 13

14 8. MUSIC RIGHTS PAGE INCLUDING EXAMPLES Please note: This page must be filled in for all programme episodes. Failure to do so will result in the PAC form being rejected. All fields on this form are mandatory. Also if you are asked to clear for worldwide, please add the cost to the Cost of Further Rights column. The following Typecodes (i.e. source codes) can now be summarised: (C) Commercial Disc under MCPS IPC blanket agreement (R) Studio Recordings Non MCPS buyout libraries only (X) Commissioned Music (one main entry per composition) (L) Library Production Disc 14

16 9. COPYING DETAILS FROM THE MUSIC RIGHTS PAGE TO OTHER EPISODES IN THE SERIES The system has the same copy functionality on the Music Rights page that exists on the Music Cue Sheet page. Once you have completed all your entries, click save and complete Go to your Episode Home page Under the header PAC FORM click the wording Music Rights this is a hyperlink On the following page, the Copy Options button appears un-greyed at the bottom of the Music Rights page summary. 16
