1 01 TV and Radio Programmes via BoB: What is BoB? Box of Broadcasts allows LSBU students and staff to watch, record and search for past and upcoming TV and radio programmes. BoB s archive includes almost all BBC TV and radio programmes broadcast since 2007, over 10 foreign language channels and over 1 million programmes. You can immediately watch programmes in the archive. Programmes you record are saved permanently in the BoB archive so you can watch them again and again. You can also watch any programme recorded by any other user. If you miss a programme then don t worry you can record programmes up to 30 days after the programme was shown, and up to 7 days in advance. Programmes can be watched on campus, or from your own computer, tablet or smartphone (within UK only). You can Tweet about a programme you have watched. You can create clips and make and share your own named playlists of programmes. You can access subtitles for most TV programmes and rolling transcripts which make the spoken content searchable. Use the transcripts to jump to the section of a programme relevant to your research, or use the visual thumbnails.

2 Accessing Box of Broadcasts Go to and click on Log in Search for and select London South Bank University then enter your LSBU username and password If you have any trouble accessing the website or playing video, check which browser you are using. Supported browsers are: Internet Explorer 10 (or later) Mozilla Firefox 26 (or later) Safari 5 (or later) Google Chrome 31 (or later) Page 2

3 Recording a programme Click on programme guide to view a calendar of programmes. Click and drag on the calendar to browse past and future programmes. Alternatively, click on Search in the top menu to search for a specific programme. Click on the programme you want to record. A box will appear at the bottom of the screen with further details. Click on Request programme to record. You will be notified when the programme is ready to watch (programmes can take up to 12 hours from the end of broadcast to become available for streaming). 4 If another user has already set this programme to be recorded then it is highlighted red or amber. It will be recorded and stored in the BoB archive. You can still click on the programme and add it to a playlist in your MyBoB account. MyBoB You can find the programmes you have recorded by clicking MyBoB at the top of the screen You can click add to playlist and create a named playlist of programmes Your playlists can be made Private so that only you can search in them, or you can leave them Public. You can share the name of a public playlist with colleagues who can search for it in the BoB archive to see the programmes you have selected for them. Alternatively you can , tweet etc. the link to the playlist. Embedding a video in Moodle (for Academic staff) You can embed recorded programmes and clips from programmes in your VLE site. Navigate to your programme on BoB and click on the Embed link. Page 4

5 Select the Embed as code option then highlight and copy the code. This can be pasted into your Moodle page using the HTML icon. Login to Moodle and turn editing on. Depending on where you want to embed the video, click on the section s cog icon Click on the Show More Buttons option and then the HTML icon < > as shown below: Paste in the code from BoB. If you click on the HTML icon again, you should now see your video embedded. Click on Save. Page 5

6 Linking to BoB programmes in websites/powerpoints You can also put a link to BoB programmes on your web page or in a PowerPoint presentation. Click on Embed, then simply copy and paste the code provided in the Universal URL option: Watching a BoB programme in Moodle Before you can watch a BoB programme within Moodle, you need to login to BoB. Click on Login at the bottom of the video, search for London South Bank University and login with your LSBU username and password. Page 6

7 Making a clip with BoB You can make a clip from one of your programmes by clicking on Create clip You can then slide the blue timebar to adjust the start and finish times of your clip. Click save clip to add it to your MyBoB. You can create compilations of clips from different programmes that are all relevant to your area of research. Page 7

8 BoB terms and conditions Programmes you record should be for Higher Education purposes only. BoB users can make up to 5 programme recording requests each day. Academic staff who need to make more than 5 requests on a day can contact library@lsbu.ac.uk as Library staff can record the additional programmes for you. BoB replaces the Library s previous service of providing TV programmes on DVD NB Very occasionally a programme may not be covered by the Box of Broadcasts licence and cannot be recorded using BoB.
