3 The Company Guardian has been making locks in Willenhall, West Midlands, UK since The company's mission is to produce quality, reliable products which have been designed to exceed customer requirements. The success of the product range has seen the company grow both in its size and the number of products offered. The first factory covered 4000 sq ft. but has since been expanded to cover over 20,000 sq ft. The company's 'Imperial' branded lock range now has 600 different types of lock but with the different sizes and finishes available now numbers over 30,000 different permutations. All products are designed using the latest 3D Computer Aided Design software which enables the company to respond rapidly to the changing needs of the marketplace. Guardian Locks uses modern manufacturing techniques along with traditional manufacturing methods. Every product is tested by hand before leaving the factory to ensure that the customer will be totally satisfied with the products received. The company also provides a 10 year warranty on all products. Products are certified to B EN : 2003 for performance and the complete range is approved to B EN :2000 for use on fire rated doors. All dimensions, weights etc. given in this brochure are approximate. Mortice locks need to be fitted into an appropriate size mortice, allowing for all protruding stumps and brass keyhole bushes. For up-to-date product information please visit our website Lever Locks Most commonly such locks are fitted with three or five levers. By varying the gatings in the levers and with keys cut correspondingly, locks are made to differ. When operated by the correct key, the levers are lifted together so that the gating is aligned with the bolt stump allowing the bolt to be thrown or withdrawn. Use of an incorrect key either overlifts or underlifts the levers so that the bolt stump is obstructed. A thrower or cam is attached to the end of the plug so that when a correct key is used to turn the plug, the thrower or cam activates the mechanism of the lockcase to which it is fitted. The security of a cylinder is provided by means of spring loaded pin tumblers, commonly five or six, which in simple form are in two parts known as pins and rollers or drivers. In a locked condition the rollers or drivers are partly in the plug and partly in the body thus preventing the plug from being rotated. 4 anding Many locks and latches are easily reversible to suit the most common ways of opening and closing hinged doors. owever, some have to be made to suit the hand required. It should be noted that different handing rules apply in some trades and countries. Flat or Plain Forend Locks and Latches Left and ebated Forend Locks and Latches Left and ebate sets Where double doors are fitted, there is an overlap to allow the doors to close on each other. This overlap is termed as a rebate, and to fit a lock to this requires a rebate set to enable the lock to be fitted so it functions correctly. Within this catalogue, each lock specification contains a reference to the compatible rebate set (where appropriate) which needs to be ordered separately from the lock / latch. The diagram below illustrates how rebate set works. It is intended for illustration purposes only and rebated component sets supplied may vary. resist a thorough vulnerability test conducted by the Master Locksmith Association (MLA). B8621:2007 This standard requires that the locks are tested to the same specification as laid-out in B3621 (above). owever, in this case, the locks do not need to be operable by a key from the inside. This is essential to meet the requirements set out for escape locks and applies when there is a requirement for an easy action method of opening an external door from the inside with no need for keys or similar devices for unlocking keyless egress. The tests include: durability, corrosion and temperature resistance & suitability for use on fire/smoke doors, amongst others. B EN :2000 This is the fire resistance test for doors. All ironmongery products that are to be fitted to fire doors should conform to this standard as a minimum. All of Guardian s UK manufactured products (ii) conform to this standard. B EN 179:2008 This is a standard affecting Emergency exit devices operated by a lever handle or push pad, where the exit door is used by trained personnel, not the general public in a low occupancy environment. ight and Open Out ight and Open Out Depth of rebate 13mm 19mm or 25mm tandards affecting Locks & Latches Guardian Lock & Engineering Co. B3621:2007 This is a British insurance standard for locks. Locks that meet this standard are recommended for fitting to external doors by the UK Insurance companies, and can lead to a reduction in the insurance premium. The standard sets out minimum requirements for resistance to drilling, sawing and picking. For a lock to pass this standard it is must IO9001:2008 This is a world recognised Quality Management ystems standard that ensures customers that they will receive products and services that meet their requirements. Independent auditing every 6 months, in accordance with the requirements of IO9001:2008, ensures consistency and improvement in working practices. CE marking The CE mark symbolises that the product conforms to the requirements laid down by the European Union. In the case of locks & latches, the requirements are that: The product has passed the :2000 fire test; the product has passed the B12209:2003 performance test, & that a third party assessment of the factory has verified that the systems in place will ensure that only quality, conforming, products will be sent to the customer.

5 Master keying Master keying is commonly used in commercial and public buildings where a single key (known as a Master Key ) will open all doors within the building. Individual keys (known as ervant Keys ) are used for offices and are given to office workers. To differ Cylinder or mortice key locks are operable by their own individual servant key only. i Key groups can also be created that open a selection of doors. These key groups are operated by a key known as the ub-master Key. You can also have all keys in a building fitting a common entry door (eg: Front Door). To pass (keyed alike) All locks are operable by the same servant key. Locks can be made to pass to other locks within their own group type. Master keyed Master key All locks are operable by their own individual key and by the master key. (iii) Grand master keyed All locks are operable by their own individual servant key, by their designated sub-master key and by the grand master key. Grand-master key ub-master key
