POL 06:02 Uen RevA Ericsson Mobile Extension Client for Symbian Product Offer at Launch
Mobility A key component in our offer We are proud to launch a new component to our mobility portfolio, the Ericsson Mobile Extension Client for Symbian (Mobile Extension Client). Via Mobile Extension Client the Mobile Extension functionality can be provided on a large number of available Symbian phones. It means that it will be an enabler for mobile extension on markets where mobile operator support is not available, or where the prices of the PRI s are too high, or where the customers simply just want to use low cost trunks to reduce total traffic cost. Important to note is also that Mobile Extension Client is supported by all our platforms. With this new product we have new reasons to approach our customers with Ericsson s edge mobile solutions. Yours truly, Birger Kjellander Director Product Management Ericsson Enterprise AB Torbjörn Lundmark Director Portfolio Management Ericsson Enterprise AB 2 (13)

1 Strategy & Policy 1.1 Product Strategy & Vision Mobile Extension Client With the routing functionality in the Mobile Extension Client we will secure a wider range of mobile phones working with Mobile Extension. We will continue to work on broadening the range of terminals suitable for mobile extension users, at the same time as we continue to increase enterprise functionality in the phones and the usability of it. Over time the open operating systems will also work on simpler, cheaper phones, and by that we will see the clients creating value in an even broader number of customer cases. Mobile solutions based on cellular technology integrated with corporate communication systems are being built now. We see this as fundamental for the future development of the enterprise communication solutions. On the terminal side we see a variety of devices being offered, providing different values to the endusers. Symbian is the most used operating system today, and also the most mature system. Microsoft, Windows Mobile, is coming strongly and will be an important alternative to Symbian, especially in the enterprise segment. As we cannot tell the market what to use, we have to adapt to the demands and thus it is our intention to support both Symbian and Microsoft OS. 1.2 Channel & Sales Strategy To support various needs for mobile solutions we must make sure to have support from suitable terminals and devices. It is therefore important to make enablers such as the Mobile Extension Client available to, in principal, all the markets where Mobile Extension is currently sold. Therefore the Mobile Extension Client supports all our platforms (MX-ONE, MD110, BusinessPhone and MD Evolution). We treat the Mobile Extension Client, as of today, as an enabler for the mobility business and we will provide it for free, with the intention to reach the biggest possible spread on the market. With the limited complexity in the handling of the product we only demand product and service approval for one, or more, of the communication systems supported (MX-ONE, MD110, BusinessPhone and MD Evolution). Provisioning of the clients to the target phone is done via a browser interface to a central server. Access to the provisioning server will be given to all our active distributors, and it will then be the responsibility of our distributors to create and support the customer configurations of the Mobile Extension Client. 4 (13)
1.3 Positioning The Mobile Extension Client is to be seen as an enabler for broadening up the target segment for Mobile Extension. This by increasing the available range of terminals and thereby enabling sales of Mobile Extension, where mobile operator managed routing is not available, or where the alternatives do not meet the price targets of the customer. We cooperate closely with Sony Ericsson, and see their terminals as the preferred alternative. The Corporate Telephony function does also provide higher functionality. However, we also see it as a necessity to provide alternatives. With Mobile Extension Client we are terminal independent. Our Mobile Extension solution is today not unique, but we certainly have the most advanced support for mobile users and the broadest experience so far. 1.4 Phase Out / Life Cycle The Mobile Extension Client can be seen as a substitute to what earlier was offered by some mobile phone suppliers called Calling Card functionality. Sony Ericsson has for example discontinued the Calling Card support in the new version of their telephony client for the ENEA Operating system (used in all their phones not using Symbian). We still see a need for the routing functionality realized in the Mobile Extension Client (similar to the routing functionality in the Personal Assistant for Smartphone (P910), and the Corporate Telephony functionality in Sony Ericsson s Symbian based phones (P900, P910, P990, M600). Over time we expect to see the functionality of the client application merged with other enterprise telephony functions that shall also reside inside the mobile phones. 1.5 Migration & Upgrade Not an issue today, but when needed the distributor can go in to the provisioning server and mark the users that are to be updated and generate a new download to the phones. In the phones the user, or an administrator, accept the download and initiate the install function in the phone. 5 (13)
2 Marketing 2.1 Sales Arguments The Mobile Extension Client is not sold on its own, but is rather to be seen as an enabler for Mobile Extension sales, and thus for One Phone solutions. The value of the client is that it makes a broader range of terminals suitable for Mobile Extension users. Through that it also opens up the possibility to sell Mobile Extension to customers and markets where there are no alternatives but terminal based routing, or where the economics of the solution could not earlier be justified. In addition it is easy to install, administrate and use. 2.2 Market trends We have argued for a long time that mobility is a vital aspect in corporate solutions. This trend is very clear and most large companies are starting to act in that direction. Even Gartner have now lifted mobility up in their strategic analyses. We can also see some of our competitors starting to announce activities and cooperation s in this area. Integration of mobile phones is no longer only about telephony, but also includes telephony related applications such as and other company related applications. The smartphone is about to be managed and treated as a lap-top. With more and more large companies putting higher priority on mobilization than on large scale IP-telephony roll-outs, it seams the time is right for opening these discussions. We have also during the last year seen a very strong interest from the mobile operators regarding how they can address the enterprise market. It is quite clear that the operators want to control as much as possible, but it is equally clear to them that medium/large organizations do not consider the mobile operator as an alternative to CPE based systems. In parallel to this the interest for outsourcing the operation of the communication systems is strong, something that will create opportunities for those who have the capacity and the cost-structure to do it well. Even though the business climate is quite positive today and customers are listening to the efficiency and business development argumentation, every project has to include a significant and clear reduction of the Total Cost of Ownership. 2.3 Marketing Materials There is a datasheet available for the Mobile Extension Client. The datasheet can either be downloaded via Info Channel or be ordered via: There is also a sales presentation available on Info Channel. 6 (13)
2.4 Technical Documentation Mobile Extension Client The user guides include the technical product information needed. There are three user guides available for the Mobile Extension Client: User Guide, for the end user. Installation Guide, for the administrator/local support about the practical steps for installation on the phone. Configuration and Provisioning, mainly for the distributor/installation persons. The Mobile Extension Client user interface is provided in English, German, French, Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Turkish, Dutch, Finnish and Portuguese (Brazil). 3 Pricing Mobile Extension Client is in the present release provided free of charge. 4 Ordering 4.1 Forecast Model No forecasting is to be done on the Mobile Extension Client. 4.2 Ordering routine Since the Mobile Extension Client is provided free of charge there is no ordering needed. To receive the Mobile Extension Client there is a provisioning process that has to be deployed. As part of the installation process a person from the distributor has to go in to the home page of the provisioning server. Please find the link below. The provisioning server is managed by Ericsson. Via the home page of the provisioning server the partner has to configure the customer and user data. Once the data is configured the client SW can be downloaded automatically from the provisioning server to the user s cellular phone. 7 (13)
Authority to access the provisioning server has to be achieved prior to deploying the Mobile Extension Client. For application of access rights to the provisioning server, please contact the Enterprise Partner Interface (EPI). You can either reach the EPI via the Ericsson home page (please see the link below) or via the Info Channel. When you have entered the EPI please choose user administration under Select area and request user type. You then tick "other requests". In the Request slogan field, please write Access to ME Client. Please note that you should not enter anything in the Product or application field. Please fill in the following information in the Enter your request field: - Partner name - Partner customer number - Name and of the person that will work as administrator at the partner 5 Technical Description 5.1 Functionality, overview Mobile Extension Client The key function of the Mobile Extension Client is to automatically route calls from a mobile phone to the Mobile Extension port on the PBX and there automatically feed the dialed number in, once the phone s id has been authenticated by the PBX. As the phone and the application can detect when the user is in another country, smart cost-reduction routing may be deployed in certain special cases. The Mobile Extension Client also holds a simple interface for dealing with DTMF services in clear text i.e. message diversion, personal number profile etc. More detailed information is available in the datasheet, the presentation and in the user guides. 8 (13)
5.2 Technical Description, interface with other products Mobile Extension Client Mobile Extension Client is a C++ application running on top of the Symbian OS. Once installed it will have no more contact with any other system (neither the provisioning server, nor the switching platform). The application and the configuration data is bundled in the provisioning server to a xxx.sis file, which is then installed on the phone. Installation can be done over-the-air, or via direct file transfer (cable, Bluetooth, IR). For more information regarding configuration data, see the installation guide. As the Mobile Extension Client is an enabler for Mobile Extension, and as we have the same type of implementation of Mobile Extension in all our platforms the Mobile Extension Client will support them all: o o o o o MX-ONE MD110 BP MD Evolution Mobility GW The Mobile Extension Client is not connected to specific releases of the platforms. 5.3 Reliability / Redundancy The Mobile Extension Client is working totally on its own. Should there be any problems, while in the home network or abroad, the application can be de-activated. If this is not enough it can be actively closed down, or in last hand un-installed. When the Mobile Extension Client is not in use the phone falls back to standard cellular call handling. 5.4 Limitations & system capacity The phones supported at the present are UIQ and Series 60/80 based terminals: Nokia 3650 Nokia 3660 Nokia (13)
Nokia 6260 Nokia 7650 Nokia N-Gage Nokia Q-Gage Nokia 7610 Nokia 6630 Nokia 6670 Nokia 6680 Nokia 6681 Nokia 9300 (soon available) Nokia 9500 (soon available) Nokia N 70 (soon available) Siemens SX1 Sony Ericsson P800 Sony Ericsson P900 Sony Ericsson P Upgrading information To upgrade the Mobile Extension Client application, or to re-configure it, is done by generating a new client file on the provisioning server. Once the new file is installed on the phone the old one is over-written. 6 Education There are no separate courses available for the Mobile Extension Client. The application is easy to use and the technical documentation should be enough for providing the necessary information. 10 (13)
7 Service For the Mobile Extension Client service is provided via a knowledge base, which can be accessed via the Enterprise KnowledgeBase. 8 Introduction Requirements There is neither a specific service nor business approval connected to the Mobile Extension Client. It will be made available to all our partners, selling one or more of our platforms. 9 Pre-Sales Business Support We facilitate smooth and efficient operations for new and established partners.
