1 Funding for Projects Concerning Young People Young Peoples Fund Grants available to voluntary and community groups to run local projects. Young people have to be at the centre of identifying, planning and delivering projects that will make a lasting difference to them and their communities. Projects must achieve 2 or more of the following: 1) Being healthy: enjoying good physical and mental health and living a healthy lifestyle 2) Staying safe: being protected from harm and neglect and growing up able to look after themselves. 3) Enjoying and achieving: getting the most out of life and developing the skills for adulthood. 4) Making a positive contribution: to the community and to society and not engaging in anti-social or offending behaviour 5) Economic well being: overcoming socio-economic disadvantages to achieve their full potential in life. Process: send outline proposal, decision made if project would potentially be funded, application form sent to applicant, final decision made within 3 months of entry. Applicants have to be years old, or up to 25 if they are disadvantaged and find the transition to independent adult life difficult. Projects can be revenue, capital or both. Grants awarded range from 5000 to Global Grants Up to Supports local community and voluntary groups who provide opportunities for people who are not in paid work and live in targeted areas of Surrey to develop the skills and self-confidence they need to progress towards paid work, voluntary work or training. Local community and voluntary groups can apply. Local Network Fund for Children and Young People Up to Grants for small, local community groups in England to support vulnerable children and young people. It aims to counter child poverty and youth disadvantage by providing opportunities for children and young people to achieve their full potential. Projects must fit at least one of the following: Isolation and Access, Aspirations and Experiences, Economic disadvantage, Children voices Young Roots (Heritage Lottery Fund) Applicants must have community links.

2 Scheme aims to involve year olds (up to 25 with special needs) in finding out about their heritage, developing skills, building confidence and promoting community involvement. oots/ Awards for All Up to Open to schools, PTA s, voluntary groups or charities. Arts Council Wide variety of funding streams. Football Foundation Variety of funding streams for revenue and capital projects. Visit the website for more detailed information Peter Harrison Foundation Applicants must be of charitable status Grants normally for capital items, but will consider revenue items and focuses on sport. They look to fund projects that provide a focus for skill development and confidence building through the medium of sport; projects that have a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity; projects dealing with the provision of sports/recreational equipment for disabled or educational people; projects with high degree of community involvement; projects run directly with the people who will benefit; projects that will help to engage children or young people who may be at risk from crime, truancy or addiction. Barclays Spaces for Sport Help local communities transform neglected land into the sporting facilities. They will provide initial revenue funds, supply equipment and offer expert assistance to groups to establish sporting activity on these sites. Sites identified through Football Foundation and Groundwork. Lloyds TSB Foundation Funds awarded to a wide range of community groups and priority areas, including children and young people. The Foundation gives grants for salaries.

3 It focuses on under-funded groups that help disadvantaged or disabled people of all ages to play a greater role in the community. They look to fund social and community needs, and education and training. Foyle Foundation The Foundation s primary aim is to support charities whose core remit covers learning, the arts or health. Schools are eligible to apply but will need to show why the project cannot be funded through statutory money. Applications from PTA s would be better received. Hedley foundation Up to Funding available for young people with their their education, training, health and welfare. Grants are for specific projects only, mostly one-off, but no core revenue, salary or transport funding. The Foundation makes a limited number of recurring grants for up to three years. Registered charities can only apply, never individuals. Percy Bilton Grants are available to organisations and individuals in need throughout the U.K, such as: Organisations assisting disadvantaged youth, people with disabilities and older people. Capital funding only. Social workers may apply on the behalf of individuals who have a disability or mental health problem, or who are over 65, for grants to purchase basic furniture, equipment and clothing. Only registered Charities or Youth Organisations are eligible to apply Garfield Weston Only registered charities can apply. They support capital bids within a range of activities, including education and various other areas of general benefit to the community. Committed to supporting disadvantaged people through education and training, and through local regeneration projects that encourage crosscommunity partnerships to improve people s quality of life. 1 of 3 funding priorities is education for disadvantaged groups. Comic Relief Up to 10,000 for 2 years. Main project area Supporting Communities. It aims to help people in disadvantaged communities to come together to address poverty and disadvantage, strengthen community life and improve local conditions. Co-operative Group Ltd Applications accepted from a charitable body only. Prefer to fund capital expenses, not running costs, staffing or hire of premises. Grants normally awarded to buy equipment and resource. Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund Grants for young people aged between 12 and 25 years. The Foundation for Sports and the Arts Mainly but they fund up to Fund sports or arts activities in UK. Learning through Landscapes Up to 5000 Schools eligible for Fit for Fun can apply to win a cash award from this funding pot. The money should be used to support any school grounds project that has a firm focus on physical activity or healthy living. National Foundation for Youth Music open programmes o First Steps developing 0-5 year olds through music, with training for parents and carers. o Music Maker music making in any style or genre for 5-18 year olds, or up to 25 year-olds for those with special needs o Plug into Music developing music technology skills for 5-18 yearolds

5 o Singing challenge encouraging new and exciting ways of singing for 5-18 year-olds. Sportsmatch ,000. Can match for commercial business sponsorship for a grass-roots sporting event or activity. Projects should include 1 or more of the following: o Increased participation at the grass roots level and or improved skills o New activities or extend/enhance existing activities o Provide links to the community and ensure long term benefits. Projects can be capital projects (up to 5000) or revenue projects. Priority will be given to revenue projects. Ernest Cook Up to 10,000 Projects must be educational. Trustees are very interested in projects which provide opportunities for young people to encourage them to gain qualifications to improve employment prospects. Topics that are given preference are ones that educate about the rural environment and the countryside and the arts. Individuals cannot apply. Charities or not for profit organisations can apply Will not fund building or refurbishment work, overseas work or sports and recreation projects. Sport Relief Grants of 250-5,000 Will fund projects that use sport or exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged. Projects should meet 1 of the 3 themes: o Feeling or being left out projects that encourage people to take part in sporting or exercise activities that bring communities together o Having problems in your life projects that help people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives regain their self-confidence and self-esteem through sporting or exercise activities o Groups that don t usually mix projects that increase access to sport or exercise for people who face social exclusion or social isolation Local community groups can apply. High Sheriff of Surrey Youth Awards Average grant is 500. Grants available for youth related organisations to set up projects that tackle crime prevention and community safety issues.
