1 Content Editor Audience: Website Administrators, Faculty/ Staff, CMS Page Authors and Publishers The Content Editor is how the regular user can create true HTML pages. This editor has similar functions to those in Microsoft Word. The Content Editor can be found through CMS pages, Announcements, the Newsletter, FusionPages, Multimedia Blogs, and calendars. In July of 2014, SchoolFusion updated our editor to a version that is supported in modern versions of the major browsers. Base functionality remains the same. Highlights: The Paste from Word icon is no longer an option within the editor tool box. Now, when content from an outside source is pasted directly into the body of the editor, any extraneous code and formatting will be stripped. Outside code, that was pasted into the previous editor not using Paste from Word was known to cause display and functionality issues. Within the resource browser you can: o Upload multiple files o Rename, copy and move files o Delete multiple files Inline spell checker Expandable editing window Functions in all modern browsers, including Internet Explorer 10 and 11. Source Content Editor In addition to the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) view of your page content, the editor offers you a possibility to view the text you have written in the editing area in the HTML code. In order to view the HTML, press the button on the toolbar. If you want to go back to the normal text just press again. Editing the code in HTML is a technical feature and it should only be done by advanced users. Preview Preview what the HTML page will look like for users by selecting this button. The page will open in a new window, and display what the page will look like when you select the publish button. 1 Last Updated: July 29, 2014

The subscript has a smaller font than the normal text. To activate subscript you must press the button on the toolbar. The superscript work in the same way as the subscript but instead of placing the index in the bottom you place it in the top. This function is usually used in mathematical equations to write the "to the power of" function. You can access it from the toolbar using the button. You can also mix these two functions. The lines will just expand and the text will be equally long so that the lines will end in the same place. Text Color If you want to change your text color press the text color button. 17 Insert a Page Break Insert a Page Break by pressing this button. This button will force the information below the break to go to the next page when printing. This break is usually not visible to the online user. Forms Forms may be created on any blank CMS page. To start your HTML form, press this button, which will open a pop up to add in an address. This address is where all responses to this form will be ed. Enter in a valid address and select OK. Please Note: At this time, only one per form is allowed. The form responses are also captured and saved on the website through Website Administration/Content Management. Next you will be taken back to the blank HTML page where you will see a red box. It is imperative to add all the form fields within this red box. Add text and form fields between the red lines. Between these two tags, you will fit as many other elements as necessary. Here, each of them will be explained in detail along with examples of exact source code needed to implement them. Checkbox You can use check boxes for any entries that you want your user to make, such as a question about the user s favorite color. Select the checkbox button and you will be asked to add a Name and a Value to the check box. The name of checkbox in this example is Colors. The Value of the checkbox is one of the options red, green or blue. Radio Button You can use the radio button when you have clusters of items with circles next to them, and 17 Last Updated: July 29, 2014
18 only one circle from each group can be selected at a time. Select the radio button and you will be asked to add a Name and a Value to the check box. The name of checkbox in this example is agree. The Value of the radio buttons options is True or False. Any of the radio buttons with the same name will fall into the same cluster, and only allow one at a time to be checked. Text Field The most common input method on an HTML form is the text box. This creates a single-line box that is 15 characters wide, and allows the user to enter as much text as he wants. Select the text field button and you will be asked to add criteria for the text field. Name in this example is name. Value is not usually set in a text field as the user will fill out the value. Character Width is how wide the text field is on the screen. Maximum Characters forces the user to only put in X amount of characters, for example a Telephone number. Type is usually set to Text. Text Area box The text area box is very similar to a regular text box. This box allows the user to put in multiple lines of text. Instead of having just a single line to input on, the user can perform carriage returns to make better formatting of the text. This is also easier if the user will be inputting a large amount of text - address or 'comments' for example. It's much easier to have it all in a large text area, and be able to scroll through it. 18 Last Updated: July 29, 2014
19 Select the text area button and you will be asked to add criteria for the text field. Name in this example is address. Columns is the width of the box Rows sets the length of the box. Selection Field The selection field allows the user to select from a certain number of pre-designated answers to be chosen from. Select the selection field button and you will be asked to add criteria for the selection field. Name in this example is colors. Value Size sets how big the box is on the display Text and Value are the displays in the dropdown. Add adds the text and value to the fields below. Up/Down allows you to move the order of the selections. Set as selected value allows you to determine which selection is selected automatically for the user. Delete removes the section. Allow multiple selections determines if the user can only pick one option from the dropdown, or multiple options. Submit button You need to have a submit button in the form to let the users submit the form. Without this button, the form will not work. Select the button and select submit. The form will now submit to the address that you entered in during the first step. Hidden Field The hidden field will send information to the server while hiding the actual input box from the reader. To add a hidden field, press this button. Name is the name of the form, for this example it is hideme. 19 Last Updated: July 29, 2014
20 Value can be anything you want sent to the server. Editing Area The Editing Area is the space where you will type in your text and format your document. If your document will be longer than the available space in the Editing Area, a resize option appears in the lower right hand corner of the page. Click and Drag arrow until the page is sized appropriately. You may also move inside the text by using your keyboard keys, for example PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, HOME, END and ARROW KEYS. Another important function while editing is the text selection (text highlight). To select the text, press your mouse left button, hold it and go to the direction you want to highlight the text. Just release the button and the text will remain selected. Context Area Once you start working with text, the context menu becomes very useful. It's a menu which will appear when you click the right button of your mouse anywhere inside the editing area or on an existing object. As the name indicates the menu is context sensitive, which means that the available items depend on the place you click It's enough to click the menu item to execute its function. Some of the functions may be disabled. For example, the cut and copy options will be disabled if there is no text highlighted. 20 Last Updated: July 29, 2014
