2 Standards and Competencies ( Aqidah, Fiqh, and Akhlaq) Assessment Topics for Grade 2 STANDARDS Conceptual Development of Iman: Gradually develop the concept of Tawhid Oneness of God, Prophets, and Books of Allah swt GRADE LEVEL COMPENTENCIES Understand that Allah swt is the only Creator; no one shares His power of creation Begin to comprehend the concept of Oneness of God Recognize that Allah swt has sent His Prophets to every nation and all people Realize that Prophets were special people. They were sent by Allah as teachers to human beings Know and believe that Prophet Adam AS was the first and Muhammad SAW was the last Prophets of Allah swt Learn that Allah swt has sent His Books to some of the Prophets Identify the Books of Allah swt and the names of the Prophets who received a Book. Islamic Ways of Worship ( Ibadah): Demonstrate an understanding of learning and performing the Islamic acts of worship, especially Prayers and Fasting. Learn and practice the act of preparation for the five daily prayers and Fard fasting in the month of Ramadan Memorize and recite the words of Adhan with proper pronunciation Identify the steps of Wudu Perform Wudu in correct sequence Recognize the names and timings of the five daily prayers Perform Fard prayers following the proper steps Know the number of Raka t in each daily Fard prayer Identify the Islamic month of fasting Recognize the importance of fasting. 2

3 2.2.9 Identify some of the conditions which make fasting obligatory for every Muslim during the month of Ramadan. Permitted and Prohibited in Islam: Recognize that certain beliefs and actions are not permitted by Allah swt. These actions are Haram Memorize and recite the prayers before starting the fast and before opening the fast at sunset Understand and explain the terms Halal and Haram Recognize that worshipping anyone else besides Allah swt is Shirk and Shirk is Haram Realize that it is required to be courteous and compassionate to one s parents, siblings, friends and other members of the community Recognize and identify some of the foods and drinks which Muslims are not permitted to consume. (Haram) Islamic Moral Values and Etiquettes: (Akhlaq and Adab) Recognize and learn the Islamic values and etiquettes of personal and social life as derived from the Qur an and Sunnah (actions) of the Prophet saw Understand the food and drink items which are Haraam Identify and practice some of a Muslim s duties towards Allah swt Recognize the duties of a Muslim towards their parents and practice Recognize and practice the etiquettes of greetings Muslims and non Muslims Learn and exhibit the proper manners of hosting a guest Learn and practice the proper etiquettes of eating Recognize and practice proper etiquette when visiting the Masjid for prayers Recognize the importance of Friday prayers. Acknowledge Friday as a special day of the week. 3

GRADE LEVEL COMPENTENCIES Illustrate willingness to obey Allah s command and follow Muhammad saw Infer that obedience and love of Allah swt requires not associating any other power to His Power Relate to the concept of Prophet hood and exhibit the understanding that Muslims believe in all the Prophets of Allah swt mentioned in the Qur an Identify understanding of the Books of Allah swt and the Prophets who received the Books Recognize that Allah swt has created angels Identify the prominent angles and their corresponding duties. Differentiate between two of Allah s creations human beings and angels Show understanding of the Day of Judgment. Know that every one will be accountable for his or her own actions in this world Distinguish between right and wrong actions for a Muslim Exhibit belief and understanding of the eternal life after death. The Beautiful Names of Allah swt: Demonstrate clear understanding of the qualities of Allah swt as Ar-Rahman, Ar- Rahim and Al-Khaliq Exhibit the understanding of the quality of Allah swt as Merciful Relate to the quality of Allah swt as Compassionate Comprehend that Allah swt is the 4

Learn and perform Fard, Sunnah and Nafl prayers as well as prayers in congregation. Learn and appreciate the actions which are encouraged by Allah swt. Describe the importance of healthy living and taking care of the environment Recognize and practice the laws of Satr (Islamic dress code) for Muslim males and females Understand and practice Hayah (modesty) while interacting in situations involving both males and females Avoid participation in activities which are not permitted Identify Haram food and drink items and recognize that food labels are an important means of distinguishing between Halal and Haram ingredients Demonstrate awareness and show active participation in the conservation of water and other natural resources as an Amanah from Allah swt. 6

GRADE LEVEL COMPENTENCIES Practice Islamic etiquette of friendship Learn and practice the etiquette of conversation Demonstrate the value of punctuality in practice Relate to Prophet Muhammad s title As-Sadiq and demonstrate honesty and truthfulness as a value to strive for in one s own thoughts and actions Distinguish between consideration and inconsideration for others Demonstrate the value of service to the community by participating community service projects Recognize and accept that others may have religious beliefs. Realize that the beliefs and traditions of others must be valued and respected. Conceptual Development of Iman: Formation of the schema of Tawhid, Prophethood, Scriptures, the Angels, the Last Day and the Life after Death Demonstrate care and compassions for neighbors and community members Distinguish between belief in One God ( Iman) The oneness of Allah swt (Tawhid) as opposed to belief in many gods (Shirk) Understand that Tawhid involves complete submission to the Will of Allah swt and recognize Allah swt as the only Creator and Provider of Life Determine the continuity of the message of the Prophets from Adam As to Prophet Muhammad saw Realize and believe that the Prophethood was completed with the death of Prophet 7

8 Muhammad saw Understand the characteristics and duties of the prominent angels especially Jibril As Read Surah Zilzillah and understand what will happen to the world on the Day of Judgment Read and understand the verses of the Qur an which talk about the Life after death. The Beautiful Names of Allah swt: Demonstrate a clear understanding of the special qualities of Allah swt as Al- Alim (the knowledgeable), As-Sami (the all hearing), Al-Adil (the just) Islamic Ways of Worship ( Ibadah) Demonstrate an understanding of the meaning, rules and benefits of Zakah. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of performing Hajj and Umrah Realize that Allah swt will reward us for our good deeds and we may be punished for our wrong actions Understand the quality of Allah swt as One who is knowledgeable Relate to the quality of Allah swt as One who listens to every thing all the time Comprehend that Allah swt is the best Judge Demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of Zakah as the third pillar of Islam Identify and comprehend the rules of giving and receiving Zakah Recall the benefits of Zakah Calculate the Nisab of Zakah for an individual Explain the distinction between Hajj and Umrah Identify the obligations of Hajj upon Muslims Describe the Arakan (procedures) of Hajj in proper sequence Explain the significance of visiting Madinah Munawwara as a part of Hajj and Umrah. 8

Describe the importance of healthy living and taking care of the environment Understand the meaning and identify the elements of holistic (spiritual, physical, mental and emotional) health Describe the importance of maintaining habits of good health Apply Islamic judgment when using technology such as Internet, cell phones, and multi-media devices Demonstrate awareness and show active participation in the conservation of water and other natural resources as an Amanah from Allah swt Identify different ways to ensure healthy growth of our bodies Evaluate how to Islamically cope with physical and emotional changes Examine Islamic ways to administer conflict and anger Management Recognize different forms of positive and negative peer pressure and apply mediation when necessary. 9

GRADE LEVEL COMPENTENCIES Understand that Allah (swt) is the only Lord Muslims worship Recognize the concept of Tawhid by identifying Allah (swt) as the only Creator and Provider of Life Realize that Allah (swt) is eternal and everlasting and that everything and everyone has a beginning and end except Allah (swt) Understand that Allah (swt) was not born and does not have parents, partners, or children Conceptualize that Allah (swt) is perfect and embodies all that is Holy Realize that Allah (swt) is the most Merciful and Compassionate and that he forgives our sins and looks after everyone Differentiate between belief in one God (Tawhid) and belief in many gods (Shirk) Understand that Tawhid involves complete submission to the Will of Allah (swt) Recognize the importance of embodying Tawhid from the heart and mind Describe ways to clearly express components of ones faith to others. Conceptual Development of Iman: Show love and respect for Allah (swt) Prophets, Angels, and Books. Conceptualize the Day of Judgment and Life after Death Recognize the notion of Shahadah (declaration of fatith) Recognize the importance of taking responsibility for one s actions and understand that these actions will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment Conceptualize that the Akhirah (the continuation of Life After Death) is eternal. 10

11 8.2.3 Decipher between the concept of Reward and Punishment on the Day of Judgment Develop the inner self (An-Nafs) to recognize the presence of Allah (swt) and follow His Will without reminder from others Develop a Love for Prophet Muhammed (saw) by following his Sunnah and Adab in every aspect of ones own life Identify the roles of Allah (swt) most prominent Angels. Islamic Ways of Worship ( Ibadah): Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of cleanliness and Taharah and Wudu and Taymum, before offering prayers. Recognize the importance of the 5 pillars of Islam and (in addition to Shahadah) identify the components of Salah, Sawm, Zakah, and Hajj Recognize that Allah (swt) has written 4 Holy Books and understand that the Qur an is the final Revelation and guidance for all mankind Decipher the difference between Taharah (purification) and Najasah (impurities) Demonstrate the ability to perform Wudu in correct sequence Recognize the appropriate situation for using Taymum and demonstrate the ability to perform Taymum in correct sequence Identify the actions in which the state of Wudu is required and the action in which the sate of Wudu is preferred Recall the history of Adhan and describe its meaning, virtues, and response of Muslims when it is called Explain the difference between calling the Adhan and calling the Iqamah Identify the requirements of a Mu adhdhin Understand the significance of Nafl and Sunnah prayers Know the Dua that is recited after the Adhan Understand the importance of Salah and the consequences of missing prayer. 11

12 Explain the difference between Fard, Sunnah, Nafl, and Wajib prayers Determine the timings of the five daily prayers and understand the importance of praying on time Identify the circumstances in which a person is exempt from prayer Describe the procedure to making up a missed prayer or joining a congregational prayer late Identify actions that are forbidden during prayer Determine the difference between acts of salah that are obligatory and sunnah Know and practice the etiquettes of Juma h and Id prayers Identify prayers other than the 5 daily salah and explain the methods for performing special prayers Recognize the meaning and importance of fasting (especially during Ramadan), and identify the virtues of fasting, the different types of fasts and the elements maintaining a fast Recall the special circumstances in which one is exempt from fasting and days in which fasting is forbidden Know the laws regarding making up fasts missed during Ramadan and explain the payment of Kaffarah for not fasting Determine actions that void the fast Recognize the virtues of special Ibadah (acts of worship), prayers, and good deeds during the Ramadan. 12
