3 Week Against Racism and Violence in Football PROJECT The Portuguese Football Players Union (SJPF), in the pursuing of projects developed in previous years, together with national and international entities, namely FIFPro, FARE, FPF and LPFP, promotes, in the present season, several actions to raise awareness on the fight against racism in Sports. 5 Semana Contra o Racismo e a Violência no Desporto PLACE Due to its multicultural and cosmopolitan image, Lisbon is the ideal place to be the set of this edition of the Week Agains Racism and Violence in Sports. Therefore, SJPF shields with the tolerance and welcoming abilities of Lisbon inhabitants. By all this, Lisbon, and specificaly the National Museum of Sports, is the perfect place to embrance such an initiative, with such a magnitude and basics of a varied community respectful of difference in sports and in everyday life. 7 SLOGAN Looking forward to grant this initiative an important strength, SJPF states the following as a slogan: 7

8 APPOINTMENT OF AMBASSADOR All these actions effectiveness highly depend on the distinctiveness and talent of the people broadcasting messages. According to this setting, no one better than unforgettable football stars, whose personal and professional path at the level of respective clubs and national team has become a constant reference of the national and international sport, will be able to consolidate the proposed goals on this matter by the Union. Furthermore, on this context, the preventive therapy gets particular importance, as well as the significance of good practices. For that much, the Union has got the honour to have as ambassadors the ex-international footballer Abel Xavier. Being the face of the project, this ambassador will have the mission to take part in national and international campaigns, supported by the Union or in which the Union has participated during the year. 9 PARTNERSHIPS It is not possible to grant credibility and symbolic force to a project if it is not associated to relevant and prominent institutions in the sports field. 10 EVENTS - OPENING EVENT: Taking place at the National Museum of Sports, the opening scene of the Week Agains Racism and Violence in Sports will gather all the partners in this event, in order to raise awareness on these important issues in football. - MEMORANDUM AGAINST RACISM The beginning of the Week Against Racism and Violence in Sports will be landmarked with a memorandum signing, as a compromise among institutions in order to prevent and raise awareness on the issue. The document will be signed by the Portuguese Government, Lisbon Mayor, Portuguese Football Federation, Portuguese League, Portuguese Footballers Association, Portuguese Football Referees Association, Portuguese Coaches Association, Portuguese Olympic Committee and main daily sporting papers (A Bola, Record, O Jogo). - ACTIONS AT STADIUMS: It will take place at Stadiums, before four Zon Sagres League (first Portuguese league) games, involving handing out of T-shirts referring to the campaign to footballers, coaches, referees and ball-pickers, and displaying of sashes before the matches with slogans against racism. These actions will occur during the following games: Sporting vs. Braga, Belenenses vs. Benfica, Vitória de Guimarães vs. FC Porto, Estoril-Praia vs. Olhanense, Portugal vs. Cameroon (AA) and Portugal vs. Macedonia (u-21). 10

11 - ROADSHOW IN LISBON: SJPF will be raising awareness of the problem of racism in Sports throughout a venue in Lisbon, where it will be offered some surprises to bypassers who will care to join the Union action. - ROADSHOW AT SCHOOLS: Under this domain it is foreseen the carrying out of visits to several schools of the country, all year long, calling up footballers making the most of the idea: Education for Sport. Taking place of meetings with students and teachers, with the intention of exalting the values of sport and at the same time the fight against anti-social and anti-sporting phenomena, especially racism. Promoting the making of students works on this subject, awarding the best ones among those sent to the Union, with T-shirts, balls and other articles all autographed by football players. - MATCH AGAINST RACISM BETWEEN FOOTBALLERS AND JOURNALISTS: Carrying out of a match between footballers and journalists aiming the acquaintance of media with this phenomenon. - TESTIMONIES: As being a part of the game, several footballers will present their statements recalling and abjuring racism and violence in any kind of sport. - CAMPAIGN ON SPORTING PAPERS: Involvement of newspapers, jointed and in a concerted approach in the promotion of the fight against racism, namely through the availability of space to insert declarations and photos of the several parties in football, like: footballers, coaches, managers, etc. 11
