3 The Arrive Alive Scholarship Program If we save just one life, then all our efforts will be worthwhile. Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is committed to supporting higher educational opportunities, as well as promoting programs that deal with the prevention of distracted and drunk driving. For the eighth consecutive year, the firm has awarded 10 scholarships totaling $20, to graduating seniors from across the state of Connecticut. The winners were chosen based on their academic achievement, community service, and their responses to the following essay question: Both drunk and distracted drivers are responsible for many fatal accidents worldwide. Prepare a presentation that encourages fellow teens to be safe drivers, and Not be The Most Dangerous Thing On The Road. As a statewide personal injury law firm, we deal with many tragic and sometimes fatal accidents caused by drunk or distracted drivers ( defined as when motorists use a cell phone to call or text while behind the wheel). The aftermath not only affects the victims and their families, but also their friends and communities. At Carter Mario Injury Lawyers, Our long term goal is to drastically reduce alcohol and distracted related accidents in our state. Every single injury and death caused by drunk and distracted driving is preventable. I hope you will lend your support to our quest to promote safe driving. We need your help. Sincerely, Carter Mario -1-

4 We don t just talk the talk, We walk the walk! Carter Mario Injury Lawyers was the first private business in Connecticut that committed dollars and time to create awareness on the distracted driving epidemic. It is our mission to protect motorists by making people think twice about picking up their cell phones while driving. For the past 8 years we have based our annual Arrive Alive Scholarship on the dangers of drunk or distracted driving. In 2010, we launched the largest bus ad campaign in the state s history - nearly 250 busses, that are visible on a daily basis all across the state. Our newest bus and billboard campaign, Stow Before You Go, shows dangerous objects being morphed into cell phones and reminds people that cell phones are the Most Dangerous Thing on the Road. Having always used the transit buses as a form of advertisement for our firm, we now use them for a larger goal, to do our part in reminding people to focus on being careful while they are driving. It is wonderful to have people call our firm and tell us our bus campaign has made them stop talking on their cell phone while driving. Helping make Connecticut s highways safer is our number one goal! GET CARTER APP CARTER MARIO OFFERS FREE TAXI RIDES! Carter Mario Injury Lawyers is now offering FREE taxi rides to any person who has our Get Carter! App on his or her Android or iphone. How Does it Work? If you re ever in need of a safe ride home, all you have to do is press the Call a Taxi Cab button on the Get Carter! App, and we ll arrange for a taxi to give you a safe ride home. The App will dial an answering service. When the operator answers, just tell them who you are, where you are, and your home address. There are no questions asked, and no out-of-pocket expenses for you. All you need for a free ride home is the Get Carter! App. -2-

Hall High School Windsor Locks High School Wolcott High School As part of the Carter Cares initiative, the Arrive Alive Scholarship is a statewide scholarship program developed by the law offices of Carter Mario Injury Lawyers to promote teen awareness of the tragedies that can result from distracted and drunken driving. Since its inaugural year in 2006, the Carter Mario Arrive Alive Scholarship Program has grown substantially and has been able to help many high school students embark on a brighter future marks the eighth consecutive year of our program, and thus far, we have awarded a total $75, in scholarship money to 63 graduating high school seniors in Connecticut. The scholarship has grown from one scholarship in 2006 with 36 applicants, to ten scholarships in 2013 with over 250 applicants. We are encouraged with the growing response because we believe it indicates that more teens are aware of and concerned with the dangers of not only drunken driving, but distracted driving ( using a cell phone to call or text while driving) as well. We promote the scholarship by sending a mass to all Connecticut high school guidance departments, social media, as well as running commercials, posting billboards, and contacting local and statewide newspapers. In January of 2011, our office began donating $20.00 of our fee from each client case towards the Arrive Alive Scholarship, with the plan to increase the number of scholarships in the future. This year, we doubled the amount of each scholarship to $2,000.00! We post each year s scholarship application on our website, the first of January. -8-
