2 2 2 Summary: We, the Namgyal Tantric College, headed by our venerabl Thamthog Rinpoche, are submitting our project on Construction of Namgyal Monastery School. This project was initiated personally by our Abbot in 2011 with blessing and consent of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Over the years, we have been working on papers and documents needed from the State government and clearing the land issue. Now we are looking forward to begin our construction in two or three months and expect it to take more than a year to complete. In order to accomplish this project we require your financial support and we are aiming to raise approximatelv INR ($ 4, 52,000 US). Background: Namgyal Tantric College, which is more commonly known as Namgyal Monastery, is the personal monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The monastery is a charitable organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI It has been working for young Tibetan monks in the hope of ensuring the survival of the unique Tibetan Traditional Buddhist studies and practices. The monastery was founded by His Holiness the second Dalai Lama. Gedun Gyatso ( ) to assist him in carrying out his religious activities and to serve humanity. In during the holocaust in Tibet, only few monks of the monastery could follow His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama into exile. It was re-established with few new young monks under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the monastery was rebuilt near the present Dalai Lama's resident in Dharamsala, India. Thus the monastery's ancient tradition of ritual dharma studies and activities were gradually revived. At present, the monastery has nearly two hundred monks and of these the younger monks are engaged in the study of the major texts of Buddhist Sutra and Tantra while at the same time pursuing modern studies. The monastery provides free accommodation and food as well as education to all of the monks. Aims and Objective: The monks of Namgyal Monastery hold a great responsibility of serving His Holiness the Dalai Lama, not only with his religious activities, which benefit millions of people but also with administration of his private office. At the present, a number of our monks are working at his administration office on various post and we are sure to receive more responsibilities in future. Hence, it is one of our priority concerns lo provide the necessary modern education for our younger monks. Also by keeping the repeated kind advice of His Holiness, we are aiming to educate our monks with both contemporary and traditional education as two wings, in order to train them as a modern 21" century monk. However, at the present, the monastery has a very limited class rooms and the number of students have increase to an extent, where we face the shortage of class room and monks quarter. Besides, the monastery also has very limited teachers and we urgently need to hire more professional teachers, to whom we need to arrange staff quarters. It is our earnest objective to nurture the future seeds of the monastery for the perseverance of our unique traditional monastic education and to provide modem education in order to make a better contribution for the welfare of all the sentient beings.
