Article no Thermomatic CBJ Please read through the whole installation manual before fitting. The simple regulating technique of ThermOmatic will maintain the indoor temperature within 1 C even if: there is a cold northerly wind damp and cold weather springtime sun is warming the house. ThermOmatic takes care of all the heat emitted from lightbulbs, TV, stove, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner or persons in the house. Adjust the temperature to a comfortable level with the room sensor or room panel. ThermOmatic takes care of the rest. ThermOmatic will pay for itself in a short time by Low price Low cost of installation High energy savings ThermOmatic CBJ Room Sensor RS ThermOmatic is easy to adjust Adjustment of the regulating curve and amplifying is not as complicated as with outdoor sensor automatics. Only one knob for adjusting the heat. Simple manual no need for help from a specialist. One adjustment knob for limiting the water temperature in the hot water tube to a maximum of C. This is perfect when using under floor heating or a solid fuel boiler. ThermOmatic is simple to install As no outdoor sensors are used, there is no need for a sensor cable to the north side of the house. Regulating box and mixer motor are one unit, mounted direct on the mixing valve with an universal installation kit. Suitable for all mixing valves with 90 opening angle. The equipment is connected via certified net adapter no need for a qualified electrician. The room sensor is connected with a flexible cable included in the installation kit. Size: length = 180 mm, width = 100 mm, depth = 42 mm.

How the CBJ works The aim of the CBJ is to maintain the temperature to which the room sensor has been set. The room temperature is measured once a minute. The CBJ is activated when there is a difference between the average temperature from previous readings and the most recent value. This means that there is a twominute delay before the CBJ is fully affected by any changes detected by the room sensor. If the room temperature varies from the set temperature, the CBJ opens or closes the bypass so that the supply pipe temperature gives the desired room temperature. If the difference between the actual and the desired supply pipe temperature is greater than 5 C, the motor will carry out major adjustments frequently. If the difference is 1 5 C, the motor will carry out small movements at long intervals. If the difference is less than 1 C, the motor remains switched off. The Open and Close indicator lamp lights up when the motor is operating. When the motor reaches an end position, the appropriate lamp flashes. Konstruktion: Datamatic AB Marknadsföring: Termoventiler AB, Ansluts ej 180 The maximum supply pipe temperature can be limited to a maximum value between 10 C and 80 C. To make installation and fault-finding easier, the CBJ runs in the start-up position without delays for 3 minutes each time the electricity is switched on. In the event of a fault (short-circuit or electrical power failure) in the room sensor or room sensor cable, the mains lamp will flash once every two seconds. In that event, the CBJ will automatically keep the supply pipe temperature at a maximum of 25 C. In the event of a fault in the supply pipe sensor or the supply pipe sensor cable, the mains lamp will flash 5 times per second. In that event, the CBJ will first close the bypass and then open to normal operation for 30 seconds, which is equivalent to a 25% opening of the bypass. In the start-up position, the bypass opens for 3 seconds. In the event of faults in both the supply pipe and room sensors, the mains lamp flashes rapidly 5 times, followed by a brief pause. The equipment consists of: 1. ThermOmatic CBJ Control Centre/Motor (abbreviated to CBJ in the text) 2. Installation fittings, universal 3. ThermOmatic RS, indoor sensor 4. Supply pipe sensor 5. 4 Procedure and contents 1. Installing CBJ on bypass valve. 2. Connecting power cable. 3. Connecting to mains adapter. 4. First start up. 5. Checking direction of rotation. 6. Installing supply pipe sensor. 1. Installing CBJ on bypass valve. (See page 7-8) 2. Connecting power cable to circuit board. First connect the attached power cable to the circuit board. If this is not done, there is a risk that the two free ends will short-circuit the mains adapter. Then clamp the cable so that there is no load on the terminal block in the circuit board. 3. Connecting mains adapter. Connect the mains adapter to a 230 V wall socket. Finally, connect the mains cable contacts to the mains adapter. 4. First start up. The first start up should be made without the supply pipe and room sensors connected. Every time the CBJ is started from the power off condition, there is a start-up phase of 3 minutes. During the 3-minute start-up phase, all delays are disabled to facilitate setting and fault finding. On first start up without sensors, the mains lamp will give three short and one long flash to indicate that both sensors are not connected. 5. Checking direction of rotation. Disengage the motor using the disengage button and turn the bypass and the motor to a central position. Plug in the mains adapter. When the CBJ is supplied with current without the sensors connected, it will move to the closed position and then open for 3 seconds. Check that the closing corresponds to the closed position on the bypass valve. If it does not, disconnect the motor contact and turn it 180 degrees. Try again. 6. Installing supply pipe sensor. Fit the sensor to the supply pipe, as close to the bypass as possible. Apply heat-conducting paste, and attach the flat section of the sensor to the pipe using the fitted clips. Finally, apply the insulation provided round the pipe and the sensor. It is essential to provide a good contact with the pipe. 7. Connecting supply pipe sensor. For further protection against damages from thunder, attached thunderprotection should be mounted on the terminal for the pipe sensor. Normally this is mounted from factory. Connect the sensor to the marked terminal. When the sensor is connected, the mains lamp will flash slowly (1 flash every two seconds) to indicate that the room sensor is missing or is faulty. The CBJ will rotate the bypass valve until it discharges heat at 25 degrees into the supply pipe, sufficient to prevent freezing at the lowest outdoor temperature. 8. Installing room sensor. 7. Connecting supply pipe sensor. 8. Installing room sensor. 9. Radiator thermostats. 10. Adjusting room sensor. 11. Limits. 12. Manual setting. Contactpaste Sensor Install the room sensor centrally in the house, in a hall, stairwell or other room which has the greatest possible connection with the rest of the house. Sensor Avoid rooms with substantial additional heat, such as kitchens, south-facing Contact paste living rooms and the upper floor of a two-storey house. Clip Locate the sensor away from the effects of direct sunlight. Avoid locating it on an outer wall or near an external door.ensure that it is installed no closer than 1 metre from the nearest radiator. Leave at least 1.5 metres vertical clearance. Connect the sensor to the marked terminal in the circuit board. When the room sensor is connected, the mains lamp will show a fixed light, and the CBJ will be ready for use. Set the room sensor at the required temperature. Pipe Insulation Clip Pipe

9. Radiator thermostats. The thermostat unit on any thermostat valves must be removed if they are fitted in the same room as the room sensor. Other rooms will benefit from having thermostat valves which shut down the radiator if the room becomes too warm as the result of additional heat. 10. Adjusting room sensor. If, after a few days operation, the scale on the room sensor does not correspond to the temperature on your own thermometer, the room sensor can be adjusted. 1. Hold the knob in its current position. 2. Slacken the locking screw about 2 turns. 3. Push in the screw using a screwdriver. 4. Turn the knob to the correct position. 5. Push the knob inwards, and hold it firmly in place. 6. Tighten the screw. If the adjustment fails, the factory setting can be reset by rotating the knob clockwise and then repeating steps 1 3. Then set the knob at a little under 10 C, and repeat steps 5 and Limits. The maximum supply pipe temperature can be set at between 10 C and 80 C. A correctly set limit will give sufficient heat in the house in the coldest weather, but will prevent unnecessary temperature rises in the event of substantial airing or other abnormal temperature reduction. For an underfloor heating system, it is necessary to limit it to the lower of the temperature which the floor material can withstand or which gives the most comfort. 12. Manual setting of motor. Press down the disengage button and rotate the motor to the desired position. If the motor is to remain in this position, the power to the CBJ must be disconnected by removing the mains adapter from the wall socket. Note The thermal inertia of the house It can take several hours to achieve the temperature set on the knob of the indoor sensor. Adjusting the radiator system Particularly in older houses, the radiator system has often not been adjusted. To further optimise the heating installation, it is useful to adjust the water flow in the radiators to suit their estimated output. Small radiators should have less water than larger radiators. This ensures that the heat is distributed to the correct locations in the house. The larger the house and the pipe system, the grater the benefit of making the adjustment. In some cases, the heating system may be short-circuited, and more or less switched off. If the radiator in the room in which the room sensor is located is too large in relation to the other radiators in the house, the other rooms may become too cold. This is rectified by adjusting the output of this radiator using a manual control or the pressure reducing device in the check valve. Adjustment is particularly important in installations with accumulator tanks or heat pumps. After the adjustment is made, the temperature of the return water is as low as possible, which increases the storage capacity of the tank and the efficiency of the heat pump. Adjustment should be carried out only by a qualified person.

Fault finding To make installation and fault finding easier, in the start-up position the CBJ operates without delays for 3 minutes each time the electrical power is switched on. In the event of a fault (short-circuit or power failure) in the room sensor or its cable, the mains lamp flashes once every two seconds. The CBJ then automatically discharges a maximum of 25 C into the supply pipe. If there is a fault in the supply pipe sensor or its cable, the mains lamp flashes 5 times per second. The CBJ first closes the bypass and then opens it to normal operation for 30 seconds, which corresponds to a 25% opening of the bypass. In the start-up position, the bypass opens for 3 seconds. In the event of faults in both the supply pipe and room sensors, the mains lamp flashes rapidly 3 times, followed by a short pause. Fault The green lamp flashes once every two seconds The green lamp flashes 3 times per second. Probable cause Fault in the room sensor or in the room sensor cable. Fault in the supply pipe sensor, or its cable or connection. Can also be an error in the component extra åskskydd för framledningsivare. Action Check that the cable is not damaged and that there are no poor connections. Measure the resistance with ends disconnected on the CBJ. It should be 48 kohm at an ambient temperature of 20 C with the room sensor knob set at 25 C, and 38 kohm with the room sensor knob set at 15 C. Check that the cable is undamaged and correctly connected. Measure the resistance with the sensor dis-connected. At +25 C it should be 50 kohm, and at 50 C it should be 20 kohm. Remove the component extra åskskydd för framledningsgivare and try again. Green lamp flashes 3 times rapidly and then lights up for two seconds. The bypass discharges heat despite the Thermomatic CBJ being in the fully closed position. The motor tries only to open or close. The motor does not open the valve sufficiently despite the fact that the house is not warm. The bypass does not open despite the fact that the house is cold. The motor oscillates between open and shut. Faults on both the supply pipe and room sensors. The closed position on the motor and the 0-position on the bypass are not synchronised. Wrong rotational direction. The maximum limit is set too low. The supply pipe sensor is fitted on the hot-water pipe. The sensor is located too far from the bypass valve or is making a poor contact with the pipe. Trouble-shoot in accordance with the two previous points Disconnect the motor from the bypass. Set the bypass at 0. Refit the motor in the fully-closed position. Reverse the motor s direction of rotation by rotating the motor contact through 180. Raise the maximum limit. Move the sensor to the supply pipe. Move the sensor nearer the pipe. Tighten the sensor fittings so that it makes good contact.

The Thermomatic CBJ is abbreviated in the text to CBJ The installation kit contains: 1 Shaft extender for the 12 mm mixer shaft 1 Allen key, 4 mm 2 Mounting strips 2 M8 x 30 stud bolts + nuts Installing the mixing valve 1 M6 x 35 guide screw 1 M6 nut 2 Self-tapping screws 1 Label, Open-Closed Before installation Before installation, check which is the closed position for the mixing valve and mark this position clearly on the mixer shaft. The CBJ is intended for mixing valves with a 90 opening angle. If the mixer has a 180 opening angle, use the Thermomatic Combi with the ESBE 92 motor. Disengagebutton Labels The CBJ can be installed in any position Adapting to clockwise and counter-clockwise mixing valves The CBJ leaves the factory with settings and connections so that it opens clockwise. If the mixer also opens clockwise, place the mixer in the closed position and lock the CBJ s fixing bracket in this position against the shaft extender. If the mixer opens counter-clockwise, open the bypass fully before locking the TM-CBJ. Rotate the motor terminal through 180 to reverse the direction of rotation. Attach the labels OPEN and SHUT against the indicator arrow. Disengaging the motor The motor can be disengaged and moved by hand to set the mixing valve manually in the event of power failure etc. Press the disengage button and adjust the mixing valve with the handle. When the power comes on again, the CBJ will operate automatically to regulate the heat. Note that if the motor is disengaged and moved by hand from an end position while the power is switched on, the mains adapter must be removed and inserted again to re-start the CBJ. 0 J H 4 A JK H M = JA H. = JI K HB=?
