3 GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (G.C.E.) EXAMINATIONS IN GREECE The GCE examinations and the certificates awarded by these examining boards are considered equal by universities and other institutions in the UK for admission purposes. The examinations are normally held twice a year: summer (May/June) and winter (November/December or January). Each board publishes its own regulations and syllabuses well in advance of the forthcoming examinations. Copies of these and, possibly, past examination papers, are normally available for consultation at the authorised centres. Candidates may also purchase their own copies direct from the examining board concerned in the UK. 1. Information about courses of study and arrangements for taking the examinations should be obtained from the centres concerned. The British Council does not judge the teaching facilities or the quality of the courses of study which are offered on the premises (or elsewhere) of the approved examination centres in preparation for the GCE examinations. The British Council is an open examination centre for the University of London Examinations and Assessment Council and conducts examinations for candidates who have been prepared elsewhere, or by home study, according to the regulations and syllabuses issued by the University. Candidates are accepted for almost all subjects except Advanced level science subjects involving a practical test, and Ordinary level subjects which require special arrangements (e.g. Music, Food Nutrition etc.). Candidates should apply to the British Council in Athens (Examinations Office) for detailed information. Entry forms together with fees must be received at the British Council before 12 January for the June examinations and before 15 September for the January examinations.
