2 Computer Science Computer technology continues to advance and the way that technology is consumed has also been changing at a fast pace over recent years. Demystify GCSE Computer Science: online support programme This exciting new programme of support for GCSE Computer Science consists of ten, twohour, online twilight sessions enabling you to develop your understanding of the specification without losing valuable time out of the classroom. The learning outcomes are mapped directly to the AQA GCSE Computer Science specification and the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) qualification. The programme focuses on making the very best use of no cost and low cost resources. As part of this series you will receive regular surgery sessions, an helpline and recordings of the live sessions. Online New series to start April 2013 dates to be confirmed 500 GCSE Computer Science: introduction We ve developed this free AQA support web conference to make it easier for you to access training from the convenience of your school and college or home. It will give you an opportunity to find out more about our brand new qualification, GCSE Computer Science. Online 11 December Online 14 January Online 07 February Key Stage 3 and 4: Raspberry Pi An Intro to Practical Programming This year has seen the launch of the Raspberry Pi, the programme set to revolutionise school computing. At the same time, there is a drive to put Computer Science at the heart of the curriculum and address the growing disconnection between the consumption of IT and the work that goes into it. This course will introduce Raspberry Pi, look at existing hardware and network issues that affects its deployment, and includes practical demonstrations of its potential in the classroom. It is ideal for working in groups, inspiring creativity and engaging students. You will be taken through the necessary steps to create your own platform video game and be provided with an array of possibilities to take the game further beyond the course itself as a resource for teaching. 4 Computing Our computing courses are designed to expand your and your students understanding of the specification as well as giving you the confidence to teach some of the more complex aspects of the subject. Key Stage 3 5 ICT/Computing: introduction to creating and designing web pages This course provides an introduction to web design and aims to give you the confidence to teach this challenging area by taking a step-by-step approach to developing an accessible web page. Leeds 08 July London 15 July Key Stage 3 5 ICT/Computing: advancing your knowledge in web design This course looks in detail at Cascading Stylesheets. It focuses on expanding your students understanding of CSS1, CSS2 and CSS3. Leeds 09 July London 16 July A-level Computing: feedback on A2 This web conference will give you the opportunity to reflect on the summer 2012 examinations for the A2 written unit, COMP3: problem solving, programming, operating systems, databases and networking, and review the grades for the course. The course will look at the more in-depth mathematical aspects of the specification and allow you to deliver the course with confidence. You will be given the opportunity to explore activities and resources which will help embed students knowledge and understanding of computing.
