1 Summer Reading is about learning to love reading, and it should promote reading widely and voluminously. Students should be allowed to explore their interests and passions in the books they choose to read. Student choice is important! Darlington County School District will use Accelerated Reader to expand the summer reading choices available to students in grades K-5. This program provides students access to over 150,000 quizzes. We have compiled a list of suggested titles to spur your thinking and get your summer book list growing. Students are NOT required to read a book from this list, but students SHOULD read a book that has an Accelerated Reader quiz. To check if a book has an Accelerated Reader quiz, please check the link provided on the DCSD website ( In order to participate in a beginning of the year celebration: K-2 students should accumulate a minimum of 3 AR points. 3-5 students should accumulate a minimum of 6 AR points. 5K titles suggested Dora the Explorer Benny Says Achoo!
