1 Shortlisted Entries 2016 Congratulations to our shortlisted entries for the Housing Awards Winners will be announced at the Awards on 4 March 2016, Belfast City Hall Sponsored by Best housing story Voting now closed Apex for Ardavon This housing story is about three people Bernadette, Kathleen and Dympna. Having no family, for decades they lived in various hospitals and institutions for people with a learning disability, spending most of their lives in isolated environments with very little opportunity for independence. On 1 June 2015 they moved into Ardavon on the next stage of their journey to develop independence and make a new life in the community. At Ardavon, there is increasing emphasis on ensuring people with a learning disability are offered even greater choice and control over their lives.
2 Clanmil for money advice service Clanmil s money advice service provides real and meaningful support for Clanmil tenants experiencing difficult circumstances due to financial problems. Since its introduction in 2014, the service has benefited hundreds of tenants. It has evolved beyond advice towards providing services designed to boost tenants financial resilience and improve their financial capability. Clúid for Pound Lane Ennis This nomination is for Daniel Meehan, a tenant in Pound Lane. Daniel is an incredible young man with inspirational inner strength. Suffering from mental illness from the age of nine, he thought he would end his days in an institution. Since moving to Pound Lane, Daniels life has improved immensely. Four of the 16 units in Pound Lane are allocated to people who have experienced mental health issues but who are now enjoying independent living while being supported by Clare Mental Health Services. Excellence in customer service sponsored by Helm Housing for Customer satisfaction survey Helm has a robust approach to customer satisfaction, and identified a gap in understanding the reasons for tenant satisfaction and dissatisfaction. They created a programme of monthly surveys across key services including allocations, complaints, anti-social behaviour, and repairs. The impact of the programme was demonstrated through improved tenant satisfaction figures. TDS for Tenancy Deposit Scheme TDS Northern Ireland is a market leading, not for profit, tenancy deposit protection scheme based in Belfast. They safeguard tenancy deposits and resolve disputes over their return, quickly and fairly. They offer a simple and straightforward, customer focused service to help members comply with the law.
3 Triangle for Choice Checkers Choice Checkers aims to increase tenant empowerment. The project is designed to enable service users express what they feel is important to them and aims to help them evaluate their lives and the support they receive. This enables Triangle to better understand tenant needs and wishes in four core areas: My Home, My Support, My Community, and My Life. Excellence in developing skills and capacity Fold Housing for Fold skills and capacity training programme In partnership with front line staff, Fold has developed and delivered a bespoke and exciting skills and capacity training programme. This programme was targeted at specific skills and competencies that will equip and enable staff to meet the many diverse challenges they will face working in social housing. Helm Housing for Dementia Friendly Half of Northern Ireland will have a family member or friend with dementia, or have dementia themselves To enable Helm to support tenants, their families and the wider community, it has committed to become a 'Dementia friendly' organisation adopting a range of initiatives. Helm for Leadership and management programme Helm s leadership and management programme evolved from a desire to develop and enable managers to embrace a change culture in a challenging operating environment. The key objective was a group who are high performing, motivated and continuously seeking to improve services, reflecting the Helm Excel principles in achieving corporate objectives. More than bricks and mortar NIHE for Oil buying scheme In 2014/15 the Housing Executive contracted with Bryson Energy to establish a network of oil buying clubs across NI. By combining orders, club members can negotiate a lower price per litre than by ordering alone. It makes budgeting easier for tenants as these clubs enable monthly deliveries of smaller amounts.
4 Supporting Communities for South and East Belfast HCN tenant scrutiny panel This nomination has shown a commitment to empowering tenants and their representatives. Delivering real change in how services are delivered to the local community. The work done by the tenant scrutiny panel places it to the forefront of delivering innovative and effective ideas for tenant involvement and empowering representatives to be involved in both the management of their housing and the delivery of services. Working together sponsored by Apex Housing for Rossorry House Apex, in partnership with Action for Children, is providing young homeless persons aged years in the Enniskillen area with safe, stable accommodation in the supported environment they require. In October 2015, Apex celebrated the handover of 13 single bed apartments at Rossorry House in Enniskillen with members of Action for Children.
