4 SECTION C QUESTION 8 (Bloom s level 3 6) Stress 1 mark per factor, 2 marks per full review of factor. Extra 2 marks for additional facts under any factor. 8.1 Physical, emotional, social and environmental factors. Physically: Inadequate or unhealthy food. The need to lose weight, but you do not know how. Disease and/or pain. The need to be more physically active, but you don t have time for it. Physical changes, especially concerns about you gender/sexual characteristics. Emotionally: Pressure to smoke, drink alcohol or use drugs. Caring for a sick family member. The death of a family member. Uncertainty about career choices. Sexual, physical, emotional or financial abuse. Personality disorders, e.g. obsessive compulsive disorder. Embarrassment, and the associated inability to make friends. Feeling of unattractiveness. Feeling of overwhelming schoolwork. Divorcing parents. The main breadwinner loses his/her job. Socially: Pressure to do something against your will. Your boyfriend/girlfriend breaks off your relationship. You are in a sexual relationship against your will. Loneliness. You are bullied at school. Environment: You live in a noisy, unsightly and polluted environment. You have no place of your own at home. You are living in poverty. A flood, fire or earthquake destroyed your house.
5 QUESTION 9 (Bloom s level 3 6) 9.1 Impact of unemployment: (3 points per full discussion) Unemployment leads to poverty. Personal debt will probably increase. Isolation, loneliness and depression often follow unemployment and poverty. Many people's self-esteem decreases. Unemployment's boredom and lack of motivation may lead to the use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Poverty and passivity can lead to poor health and a lack of welfare. The chances of domestic violence and abuse can increase. Unemployment leads to an increase in welfare dependants. A high unemployment rate among educated youth can potentially lead to political confrontation and violence. Reasons for unemployment: (3 points for a full discussion) A country's low economic growth can hamper higher employment. When businesses close down, employees can be retrenched. Mergers between companies can result in job losses. Economic recession leads to a decline in the demand for goods and raw materials. To save money, some companies declare positions as redundant. Mechanisation and electronic production means less people need to be employed. Privatisation may in some cases lead to less employment opportunities. Many workers' education and training is inadequate. After 1994, school policies led older children to leaving school early. It was expected that they would enrol in training programmes or programmes for adult education, but it did not happen. South Africa has labour laws like prescribed minimum wages that make it less attractive for employers to hire new staff. Some employers take foreigners into service. Solutions to counter unemployment: (1 mark per factor) Volunteer work. Part-time work. Community work. Entrepreneurship. Informal work. TOTAL SECTION C: 20 GRAND TOTAL: 80
