All entries for these special awards will have the statement made with butter entered on the entry form in each class entered. 4-H and Junior will be judged together. Danish System of judging 2. Entry Form must list the type of product (fruit, vegetable, preserves, etc.) and the method or process used (canning, freezing or drying). 3. Low acid foods must be canned under pressure. 4. Dried products should be wrapped in clear plastic or sealed in jars. 5. An exhibit consists of one jar for freezing, two standard jars for canning, one container for drying, except for jerky (six strips) and dried fruit (six sections). 6. LIMIT: An exhibitor may NOT enter more than 20 entries total. Each entry must be a different item. Example you can entry a peach jam and peach jelly but you can not enter two peach jams. Labels MUST list type of product, the date, and process (i.e: apricot jam, pectin method; apricot halves water bath processed; frozen green beans, blanched one minute, to be used within three months). 7. NO PARAFFIN SEALS 8. Exhibitor limited to BEGINNING, INTERMEDIATE or ADVANCED, but not all. Requirements for preserved foods 1. All home canned foods must have been prepared within a one-year period prior to judging date. 2. Entry to consist of TWO jars (except where otherwise specified) of each product entered. One jar will be opened for judging the other for display. 3. All entries must be canned using the same brand of jar and lid. Use of paraffin or use of other than Ball or Kerr jars will disqualify exhibit. New screw rings must be used. 4. Entries must be labeled with product name, date of preparation, processing method and processing time. 5. If opened jars are not called for, the contents will be disposed of. Jarden Home Brands proudly presents 2016 Youth Food Preservation. To promote the art of home canning and to honor 4
5 youth who excel at the art of home canning. Ball & Kerr Home Canning is offering First Award honoring Youth Categories. To be considered for Jarden Home Brands special awards, exhibitor must state on entry form brand name of jars used. Judges will select the best entries submitted by a youth in fruit, vegetable, pickle and soft spread categories canned in Ball jars sealed with dome lids or canned in Kerr jars and sealed with Kerr lids. In addition, selections of the two best entries submitted by adults in the Soft Spreads category will be limited to entries prepared using one of the Ball Jell Pectin: regular, no sugar needed or liquid. The UCP from the Ball Fruit Jell package must accompany the entry as proof of purchase. A space of 2'x2' will be provided for one place setting. Exhibitors must bring place mat or tablecloth, silverware, dishes, napkins, cup, centerpiece, a card with the menu that would be served at this meal, and a place card with exhibitor s name. 2 Centerpiece must be original and made by exhibitor. It cannot be purchased or pre-made. 3. Exhibitor s should use their imagination - be as creative as possible and use color. 4.
