SCHEMES OF DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE For more details, please visit Sl No Name of the Scheme 1 National Bio- Science awards for career development Scheme Details To recognize the outstanding contributions of young scientists in basic and applied research covering the areas of biosciences including agriculture, biomedicine and environmental biology, up to 10 awards are given each year subject to the availability of suitable candidates. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a research grant of 3,00,000/- per year for a period of three years and a citation. 2 Agricultural Census Agricultural Census is the largest countrywide statistical quinquennial operation undertaken by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. Primary and secondary data on structure of Indian agriculture are collected under this operation using the machinery of the State governments. The first Agricultural Census in the country was conducted with reference year So far seven Agricultural Censuses have been completed at five yearly intervals and the eighth one is in operation in the country.the Census is carried out in three Phases. 3 Technology Mission on Cotton (Mini Mission III & IV) The scheme aims at improving production, productivity and quality of cotton. The Mission comprises of four Mini Missions, which are jointly being implemented by the Ministries of Agriculture and Textiles. Ministry of Agriculture is nodal for the implementation of Mini Mission I and II responsible for Research and Development on cotton and Dissemination of Technology to farmers respectively. Whereas the Ministry of Textiles is the nodal agency for Mini Missions III & IV responsible for improvement in marketing infrastructure including improvement of the existing market yards and modernization of Ginning & Pressing factories respectively. Providing assistance to the States for augmenting fodder availability. Aims to improve the socio economic status of fishers and other people engaged in the fisheries sector. It covers all inland fishery resources available in the country in the form of freshwater, brackish water, coldwater, waterlogged areas, saline / alkaline soils for aquaculture and capture fishery resources (reservoir / rivers etc.). The Central Government provides financial assistance to poor fishers through the State/ UT Governments for complete development of marine sector. This scheme aims to make the small and marginal holdings economically viable, step up agricultural production and productivity and finance the share croppers / tenant farmers to purchase land to enable them to increase income. The aim of the scheme is to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests and diseases. The scheme also encourages the farmers to adopt progressive farming practices, high value in-puts and higher technology in agriculture. This helps stabilize farm incomes, particularly in disaster years. The objective of the scheme is to increase the productivity by popularizing the use of newly released hybrid/high yielding varieties and spread the area coverage under location specific high yielding varieties/hybrids. The main objectives of the scheme include creation of scientific storage capacity with allied facilities in rural areas to meet the requirements of farmers for storing farm produce, processed farm produce and agricultural inputs. The aim of this scheme is to provide additional agricultural marketing infrastructure that helps in coping up with the large expected marketable surpluses of agricultural and allied commodities including dairy, poultry, fishery, livestock and minor forest produce. Also, to strengthen existing agricultural marketing infrastructure to enhance efficiency by promoting direct marketing so as to increase market efficiency through reduction in intermediaries and handling channels thus enhancing farmers income. Scheme aims to create necessary infrastructure for production of quality milk at the farmers level up to the points of consumption, improve milking procedure at the farmers level, train and strengthen infrastructure to create mass awareness about importance of clean milk production. Livestock Health and Disease Control programme has been implemented by the Government of India to assist states for controlling animal diseases, to strengthen veterinary services, prevent economic losses, develop herd immunity, regulate veterinary practice and maintain register of veterinary practitioners. The objective of this scheme is to provide holistic growth of horticulture sector in India and to enhance horticulture production. The objective of this scheme is to promote the growth of the bamboo sector through as an area based regionally differentiated strategy. The main aim of this scheme is to build capacities in system such that it is able to withstand the forces of globalization and competition. The scheme aims to popularize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach among farming community to promote use of bio pesticides by imparting training to master trainers, extension workers and farmers. Scheme is implemented in 21 States and one Union Territory with 26 Centres. The scheme is implemented through four Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institutes located at Budni (M.P), Hissar (Haryana), Garladinne (A.P) and Biswanath Chariali (Assam) and the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation to organize training for trainers, officials from State Governments and farmers in the selection, operation, maintenance and repairs of specialised agricultural equipments and energy conservation. These institutes also demonstrate new and technologically advanced equipments at farmers field for induction of new technology in agricultural production system. Scheme aims to provide protection mechanism to the farmers and cattle rearers against any eventual loss of their animals. The crossbred and high yielding cattle and buffaloes are insured at maximum of their current market price. The premium of the insurance is subsidized to the tune of 50% and the entire cost of the subsidy is borne by the Central Government. The benefit of subsidy is provided to a maximum of 2 animals per beneficiary for a policy of maximum of three years.
