1 THEME 1: Student Learning / Curriculum and Instruction High expectations are at the heart of the vision for all students in the Revere Public Schools. By embracing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, curricula are provided that prepares and challenges all students while providing the foundational building blocks for future learning. Use Technology to meet the diverse academic needs of all students Action steps for the School Year 1. Continue to align technology lessons with grade level subjects and curriculum. 2. Begin implementation of Technology Literacy Standards from 2011 MA ELA/Literacy Framework. 3. Continue to provide access to video conferencing for grades 4 through 8. Teachers, Humanities Director, Teachers, Literacy coaches Video Conferencing Coordinator Ensures all students have access to requisite curricula. A curriculum that emphasizes literacy of technology concepts. Students exposed to concepts and experiences to which they would not otherwise have access. 4. Implement/Continue using technology-based curricula including Kaleidos, AutoDesk Suite, Scientific Learning, PLATO, etc., Teachers Students have access to multiple instructional methods which will increase achievement. 5. Implement/Continue to use technologies to support students in mastering key curricular concepts, including FASTTMath, Apangea, and pearson successmaker., Teachers Students have access to individualized instruction that targets their specific learning needs.
2 6. Provide opportunities for students to complete course work through on-line formats. RHS and SC, VHS teachers Students are able to graduate on time and/or experience course work not offered in the traditional classroom setting.
3 THEME 2: Teacher Learning / Professional Development Developing techniques to teach to higher standards while embracing the latest research is at the heart of teacher training in the Revere Public Schools. By embracing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and effective strategies for teaching and learning, teachers build a repertoire of approaches to effectively challenge all students. With the foundation set by Research for Better Teaching, and a formal departmental and building professional development program, all teachers have the opportunity to hone their skills on a regular basis. Continual professional and personal growth is expected of all teachers. Support teachers in the effective use of instructional technology Action steps for the School Year 1. Provide professional development in the effective use of instructional technology including: document cameras, wireless slates, SMART Response, interactive boards and the software associated with this hardware. 2. Provide grade K-12 teachers with professional development in implementing the Literacy Standards for Technology. 3. Continue to support librarians in the effective use of Destiny software within the libraries throughout the district 4. Implement district-wide STEM Leadership Team Teachers Humanities Director, Library/Media Specialists Paraprofessionals ~ (Librarians) teachers Increased student engagement in lessons and achievement of the curricular goals Teachers are able to provide more effective instruction through effective instructional methods. Library/Media Specialists are able to more effectively track loaned materials and collect data about use of materials. Teachers assume leadership roles in decision making about schoolbased Technology. Vertical articulation of curriculum will be enhanced.
4 THEME 3: School & Community Involvement Educating children is a community effort. Involving parents, as well as community resources, provides a continual reinforcement of academic and social ideals embraced by the schools and community. Fostering involvement and increasing communication develops healthy school climates with consistent expectations for school performance and social behavior. Revisit the Technology Plan for the district and update to current status Action steps for the School Year 1. Revise latest Technology Plan to reflect RPS goals and expectations up to Committee Technology Plan All members of the school community are aware of current requirements detailed in the Acceptable User Policy (AUP), policies on cyberbullying, and plans for technology improvements
5 THEME 3: School & Community Involvement Educating children is a community effort. Involving parents, as well as community resources, provides a continual reinforcement of academic and social ideals embraced by the schools and community. Fostering involvement and increasing communication develops healthy school climates with consistent expectations for school performance and social behavior. STRATEGY: #2 Expand the communication with families via technology Action steps for the School Year 1. Continue to provide RPS staff with free website to offer school/classroom information 2. Continue to expand the local cable channel (Channel 10) of RPS information and news to families 3. Continue use of Connect-Ed phone system for timely notification of schedule changes and events to families 4. Continue to provide the parent portal feature of PowerSchool for high school and middle school families 5. Regularly update the website including the addition of new tabs for family resources and to increase ease of navigation Webmaster RPS Staff Central Office, P. Amato Superintendent, Dir. of Administrative Technology, IT Staff,, teachers Webmaster, Central Office, Administrators Provide information to free website for staff to set up account: Link individual schoolnotes page to faculty page for each school Notification of families of local access cable channel for updated school events, information and taped performances Families are more easily able to engage with the schools and have more information about school events both academic and extra-curricular Families are able to track student progress and pro-actively address with teachers and/or administrators any perceived achievement issues Families will have convenient and continuous access to school information including: after school programs, the school calendars, school and district handbooks, and school closings
6 THEME 4: Planning and Support Systems A healthy and safe environment in all schools provides an optimal learning environment. To that end, student support services and a strong infrastructure for plant expansion and maintenance must be in place. Facilities must be able to accommodate the needs of teaching and learning as defined by innovative teaching and learning practices. Ensure optimization of technological efficacy and fiscal responsibility in the procurement of technology programs Action steps for the School Year Responsible 1. Continue implementation of existing phone system with a new system that operates via internet access. 2. Ensure accurate records of existing hardware, software, and technology infrastructure for each school.
