In addition, the integration process of Xcelsius to Crystal Reports is tedious. The report data will first have to be exported to an Excel spreadsheet, followed by importing the spreadsheet to Crystal Xcelsius and then exporting the spreadsheet to an Adobe SWF file for the creation of interactive visualizations. Next, the SWF file has to be embedded into the report and finally, the SWF file can be connected to be report data using FlashVars. In contrast, Elixir Repertoire provides users with ease-of-use by omitting these unnecessary steps. It is able to create reports and dashboards in the single suite, avoiding cumbersome integration procedures. To create the dashboard, a simple action of clicking-and-dragging the data source will suffice. Other than Excel, data can also be extracted from many other sources such as databases, text and XML files. As the source of data is not restricted to Excel, it facilitates the building of dashboards with more complex logic, giving greater flexibility in the creation of any customized dashboards. 5 Scheduling Crystal Reports only allow users to schedule the generating of reports. In this aspect, Elixir Repertoire is more flexible and versatile. Repertoire s scheduler is capable of specifying different tasks, such as the rendering of report, generation of data, running of batch jobs and possesses the mechanism to handle job failures. 6 Elixir Repertoire vs. Xcelsius Cost Competitiveness With a lower-end version of Xcelsius (Xcelsius Engage), users are restricted to Excel and database data. The higher-end, more costly version (Xcelsius Engage Server) will be required if multiple data sources are deployed. Xcelsius Engage Server is also limited to 5 concurrent users. To enable more concurrent users, an upgraded version, BO Xcelsius Enterprise would be needed, resulting in higher costs. On the other hand, Elixir Repertoire offers a more cost-effective solution. Repertoire s server license is priced by processor value, allowing unlimited concurrency and connections to multiple data sources. Besides the dashboard feature, ETL and Reporting functions are also included. Data Manipulation A third-party product, Flynet Web Service Generator is necessary to connect to web services, with an Excel file needed as a Data Model. This can lead to longer development time. With Elixir Repertoire, there is neither a third-party tool required nor the need for an Excel file as a Data Model. Repertoire s ETL layer can be easily connected to any datasource and messaging of data can be achieved with the ETL processors. Output Format Xcelsius deploys SWF file formats as output and it is incapable of generating output files such as Excel or XML on its own. A third-party product will then be necessary to export to Excel/CSV, XML or HTML file formats. For Elixir Repertoire s Dashboard, users can simply create a Report content and drop it into the Dashboard. 8 Reporting Elixir Repertoire has the ability of allowing users to drop Report content into the dashboard, generating a copy of report in users preferred format (PDF, EXCEL, PPT, etc). With Xcelsius, however, Crystal Reports cannot be dropped in Xcelsius. Xcelsius is limited to flash output, and if users require any reporting, Crystal Reports will be needed. Cube Content Xcelsius does not have any cube content feature. On the contrary, cube content is available in Elixir Repertoire Dashboard. Users merely have to select the row and column dimensions and a cube will be computed. Versions The above features were compared against Elixir Technology s Elixir Repertoire version to BO s Crystal Reports and Xcelsius Engage version.
