5 Temperature Control Uses lake water for free cooling CHW to 41 F and chillers to polish from 41 F to 38 F. Chiller polishing significantly increases the cost of production but is required on hot days to satisfy customers

6 Flow Control 70,000 USGPM & 2500 HP of CHW distribution pumping Makes up half of cooling production costs Delta P staging of pumps is reliable but conservative

7 Operational Issues Without feedback on customer cooling demands, plant can t optimally start & stop temperature polishing. Pump staging must also run conservatively.

8 Operational Issues Diverse nature of customers makes prediction of demands difficult. Need to conservatively run to ensure customer satisfaction. Real time data from customers would allow the latest start of polishing and pumping to be estimated within minutes rather than hours

9 Customer Issues Being able to see customer status in real time would allow better dialogue with customer operations staff when there are problems excessive flow demand or low return temperatures to be identified quickly

After reviewing various market vendors Enwave selected Matrikon to partner with to develop a solution based on their ProcessNet application

19 Data Sources - Customers Interface with CHW BTU metering and flow control panels at each cooling customer site. Modern DDC installation made connection relatively simple. Modbus Connection via Modems.

20 Data Storage A historian application is used to record the data transmitted from the customer and plant sites. Operates on the server in Enwave administration office. High storage capacity through data compression and recording techniques.
