1 Register of Electors Quiz - Trainer s Copy Please read these instructions carefully before you start. You will need to use the Register of Electors and both Corresponding Number List (CNL) in your pack, a ruler and a pen. For each of the following scenarios; 1. Find the elector in the Register - if appropriate draw a line using the pen and ruler provided between the elector number and name on the mock register. 2. Complete the Corresponding Number List(s) (CNL) if appropriate. Record your answers to the following questions; 3. Would give the voter a ballot paper or not? or No 4. State your reasons for your decision -, Not entitled to vote, any advice you have given them 5. The Elector Number and the number(s) of any ballot papers issued Paper Number and their elector number Scenarios 1. Emily Hunter comes to the table with her polling card. Her polling number is 37 and she lives at 9 Archibald Place. Reason / Advice given : CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Bradley Young comes to the table with his polling card. His polling number is 167 and he lives at 24 (1F1) Brougham Place. Reason / Advice given : CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s

2 3. Zuszanna Petrov comes to the table without her polling card. She gives her address as 19 (2F1) Drumdrydan Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Emma Obradovic comes to the table without her polling card. She gives her address as 28 Chalmers Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Aaron Williamson comes to the table without his polling card. He gives his address as 43 (5F2) Barclay Place. that he is a postal voter CNL details completed: No Aaron has an A in front of his name which indicates N/A

3 6. Ryan Findlay comes to the table with his polling card. His polling card number is 769. He gives his address as 41 (1F1) Home Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Mr Findlay comes back to the table, he only puts his constituency paper in the ballot box and advises that he has put a cross in the wrong box on his regional ballot paper and asks what he can do? (Confirm in full the procedure for both the elector and polling staff) Type of Regional Ballot Paper Procedure: Write cancelled on the regional ballot paper and CNL entry. Without tearing the ballot paper up, place the paper in the spoilt ballot paper envelope and give Mr Findlay a new regional ballot paper CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Danielle Marshall comes to the table without her polling card. She gives her address as 17 (3F2) Drumdryan Street. She explains that she had arranged for her dad to vote on her behalf but her train was early and she is now able to vote for herself. Reason / advice given to voter: Danielle is a P (proxy) voter but on checking the proxy list her dad has not been in yet. Procedure: Mark the register off with a line between Danielle s name and elector number. Do not mark off the Proxy list because her dad did not vote on her behalf. 4 8. Andrew Ritchie comes to the table without his polling card. He gives his address as 3 Drumdryan Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s After giving Mr Ritchie both ballot papers, he returns the regional one and says that he doesn t want to use this paper Procedure : Try and encourage Mr Ritchie to put the ballot paper in the box (even if it is blank). If he refuses point blank to take it then hold the unwanted ballot paper at the back of the desk beside the Ballot Paper Account just in case he comes back later and wants to complete it. Advise your Area Polling Officer that you have unwanted ballot papers and they will bring you an envelope to keep them in. 9. Adele Adkins comes to the table without her polling card; she gives her address as 55 Home Street. What three questions could you ask Ms Adkins 1. Did you receive a polling card? 2. Have you registered? 3. Have you moved house recently? 10. Isla Bute comes to the table with her polling card. Her polling number is 2422 and she lives at 7 (2F2) Glengyle Terrace. Reason Advice given: CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s

5 11. Nicola McMillan comes to the table without her polling card. She explains that she is 16 years old, never voted before and lives at 21 Brougham Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Andrew McLean comes to the table at 2.30pm, he has lost his postal pack and wants to know what he can do. He lives at 14 Glen Street. No Andrew has an A in front of his name (postal vote). As it is before 10pm, Andrew should be advised to contact the Elections team where he can arrange to come up to the City Chambers for a replacement. Alternatively he can be given a tendered paper at anytime. CNL details completed: N/A 13. Natalie Shin comes to the table with her polling card. Her polling card number is 543. She gives her address as 9 (3F2) Glen Street. CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s Ms Shin comes back to the table, she only puts her regional paper in the ballot box and advises that she has put a cross in the wrong box on her constituency ballot paper and asks what she can do? (Confirm in full the procedure for both the elector and polling staff) Type of Constituency Ballot Paper Procedure: Write cancelled on the ballot paper and CNL entry. Without tearing the ballot paper up, place the paper in the spoilt ballot paper envelope and give Ms Shin a new constituency ballot paper CNL details completed: Ballot paper no.s

6 14. Courtney Scott comes to the table at 7.20pm. She states that she has spoilt her postal vote and now she needs to vote in person. She lives at 7/1 Archibald Place. Type of Offer a tendered phone the election team first Reason / advice given to voter: Caitlyn has an A in front of her name which is a Postal voter. As it is a spoilt postal vote and is after 5pm, Caitlyn could be given a tendered ballot paper. CNL details completed: if she takes a tendered paper, complete the tendered paper list 15. Fiona Wilson comes to the table with her polling card. Her polling number is 109 and lives at 7 (1F1) Brougham Place. No It looks like Fiona has already been in and voted. The Presiding Officer asks Fiona the prescribed questions (page in handbook) and phones the election team. If agreed issue a tendered ballot paper. Make sure that the tendered paper does not go in the ballot box and is returned to the Presiding Officer to be kept in the tendered paper envelope.
