3 Perspective on the Psychological Science Program Strong focus on empirical research Major provides a very strong background for admission to doctoral study in all areas of psychology (including clinical and counseling) Primarily interested in working with children or adolescents? Think about the now available Child & Adolescent Development (CHAD) major Several of the introductory courses for PSYC and CHAD are the same, so you don t need to choose now

5 Lower-Division Requirements Required courses PSYC 100: Introduction to Psychology PSYC 220: Introductory Statistics in Psychology PSYC 20: Research Methods in Psychology (including a lab component) These courses are also pre-requisites for many upper-division courses finish them up in your first semester if possible Must have a grade of C or better to count as prerequisites and to count toward the major

Faculty members need to know you beyond just your courses to be able to write a strong and detailed letter of recommendation

13 Department Faculty A description of each faculty member s background and interests is listed in your handbook We have a commitment to working closely with students; we like to work with you Find faculty whose interests are related to yours and get to know them
14 Registration Some courses are already full and closed, but there are seats open in many of the courses you need to take Crashing courses Get yourself on the waitlist for courses you want, and monitor your position. Faculty tend to honor the waitlist unless there are unusual circumstances.

16 CATALOG TERM: 2015-FALL 2016 TOTAL UNITS REQUIRED = 120 PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCE This worksheet is intended for supplemental use only. The University will use your Academic Requirements Report (ARR) to track your graduation requirements, including those for your major. Please continue to check your Student Center and ARR for accuracy. If your ARR requires a correction, please submit an ARR Correction Form at All courses counted toward the major, including preparation for the major must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. Courses used for the major may NOT double count towards upper-division general education requirements and may NOT be in the same discipline as your major. Students who took PSYC 0 or 48 in spring 2015 or before can use these in place of PSYC 1 or 49; contact your Academic Advisor if you took these courses after spring No more than three () units of either PSYC 498 or 499 may be applied toward the major. No more than three () units of PSYC 495 may be applied toward the major. A minimum of eighteen (18) units counted toward the Psychology major must be completed at CSU San Marcos. All non-articulated courses MUST be reviewed and approved by a faculty advisor.
