3 Introduction The Michign Behviorl Risk Fctor Survey (MiBRFS) is n nnul, sttewide telephone survey of Michign dults ged 18 yers nd older tht is conducted through collortive effort mong the Popultion Helth Surveillnce Brnch (PHSB) of the Centers for Disese Control nd Prevention (CDC), the Michign Stte University Institute for Pulic Policy nd Socil Reserch (IPPSR), nd the Michign Deprtment of Helth nd Humn Services. Michign BRFS dt contriute to the ntionl Behviorl Risk Fctor Surveillnce System tht is mnged y the PHSB t the CDC. In 2014, the totl smple size of completed interviews for the core survey ws 8,466 (lnd line = 4,973; cell phone = 3,493). Due to vriility in response rtes to individul questions nd differences in specific su-popultions of interest for prticulr questions, not ll estimtes re sed on totl smple size of 8,466. As result, item-y-item smple sizes nd popultion descriptions re included within ech tle. Furthermore, only comprisons etween estimtes with nonoverlpping 95 confidence intervls should e considered significntly different. For the, the smple of lnd line telephone numers tht were utilized for dt collection ws selected using list-ssisted, rndom-digit-diled methodology with disproportionte strtifiction sed on phone nk density, nd whether or not the phone numers were directory listed. The smple of cell phone numers used within the dt collection process ws rndomly selected from dedicted cellulr telephone nks sorted on the sis of re code nd exchnge within the Stte of Michign. Itertive proportionl fitting or rking ws the weighting methodology used to mke the 2014 Michign BRFS dt representtive of the current Michign dult popultion. Estimtes sed on this methodology were weighted to djust for the proilities of selection nd rking djustment fctor tht djusted for the distriution of Michign dults y telephone source (lnd line vs. cell phone), detiled rce/ethnicity, eduction level, mritl sttus, ge y gender, gender y rce/ethnicity, ge y rce/ethnicity, nd renter/owner sttus. Stte-specific, popultion-sed prevlence estimtes nd symmetric confidence intervls were clculted for indictors of helth sttus, helth risk ehviors, clinicl preventive prctices, nd chronic conditions mong the dult popultion in Michign. Respondents who refused to nswer question were removed from the denomintor during the nlysis of such questions. Those who responded Don t Know/Not Sure were lso excluded from the denomintor unless indicted otherwise. All nlyses were performed in SAS-Cllle SUDAAN, sttisticl computing progrm tht ws designed for complex smple surveys. In n effort to provide the most relile informtion possile, prevlence estimtes re suppressed if they re sed on denomintor of less thn 50 respondents or hve reltive stndrd error of greter thn 30. Due to the BRFSS methodology chnges tht took plce in 2011, the estimtes provided within the following tles should only e compred to Michign BRFSS estimtes from nd not to Michign BRFSS estimtes from yers prior to If you hve ny questions regrding ny of the estimtes within the following tles, plese contct Chris Fussmn t MDHHS, y phone, , or y emil, MIBRFSS@michign.gov. 3
