Article 4 The study load and academic year 1. The study load for the Master s degree programme is 120 credits. None of the components of the programme may have formed part of the Bachelor's degree programme. 2. The Master s degree programme consists of 2 academic years. 3. One academic year is divided into two semesters, each containing 2 teaching periods. Article 5 The composition of Master s programme 1. The Master s degree programme in Sustainable Energy Technology is a 3TU MSc programme. The program is offered at TU/e, TUD (Delft University of Technology) and UT (University of Twente). The programmes have a similar structure and comparable core program. See appendix 1 of this Implementation Regulations. 2. The study programme is compiled in the following way: a. In the first year: homologation courses, compulsory courses, electives & projects b. In the second year: a master thesis project & graduation courses Schematic overview of the MSc-programme SET of TU Delft: First year 60 EC 1 st semester Homologation courses (4 out of 5*) 16 EC [exams period] SET3021 Transport Phenomena 4 EC [1, 2, 3] SET3012 Renewable Energy 4 EC [1,2] ET4366SET Electrical Power Engineering 4 EC [1, 2, 3] SET3667 General Chemistry and Process Techn. 4 EC [1, 2, 3] SET3676 Thermo. of Renewable Energy Systems 4 EC [1, 2] Other elective 4 EC SET3051 Lecture series Problem Solving in Engineering (voluntary part of the programme) *Depending on the knowledge acquired in the BSc programme, a fixed programme of homologation courses (16 EC) will be selected for the student. Article 6 Profiles & Master thesis project 1. The following profiles are offered at the 3TU Master s degree programme SET Delft: - Energy from Biomass - Wind energy - Solar energy - Electricity and Hydrogen storage - Electrical Sustainable Energy - Energy and Society - Miscellaneous 2. Students can choose one of these profiles in good consultation with the profile coordinator. The profile coordinator approves the application for the corresponding Master thesis project. The thesis supervisor, determines the associated graduation courses. 3. Students may start the Master thesis project after completion of 45 EC of theoretical courses. This means that the industrial internship and the SIP1 and SIP2 project are excluded. Article 7 Specialisations For the Master s degree programme SET, specialisations consist of a package on specialized courses, with a maximum of 30 EC. 15 EC of the chosen specialisation can be performed in the elective & project part of the 1 st year. The remaining credits are extracurricular. In case a student meets the requirements of the Honours programme, students can opt to do part of their specialisation as an Honours programme, under the conditions specified in article Study Abroad This programme is developed for Dutch students aiming for international experiences. It consists of one semester: a project and/or courses at a foreign university. The programme has to be approved in advance by the board of examiners. 2.Education track of the MSc-programme Science Education & Communication (only Dutch-speaking students). The educational programme is aimed at Dutch-speaking students with a BSc-background in (applied) physics, chemistry, life science & Technology, applied mathematics and computer science only, because they are oriented towards the Dutch school system and because it includes internships (Schoolpracticum) at Dutch secondary schools. Consequently the educational specialisation modules are taught in Dutch. The programme consists of Basisdeel/Ed1 (30 EC) and Verdiepingsdeel/Ed2 (30 EC). The minor Education (Basisdeel/Ed1) can be done during the bachelor programme and leads to certification as a tweedegraads secondary school teacher with limited qualification (beperkte bevoegdheid). If a student has done the minor Education, only the Verdiepingsdeel/Ed2 of 30 EC remains for the master programme specialisation. The combination of the minor Education and Ed2 specialisation leads to certification as a fully-qualified eerstegraads (grade-one) secondary school teacher. The qualification will be mentioned on the master diploma. Implementation Regulations MSc Sustainable Energy Technology SET DELFT
6 Students that did not take the minor Education can follow the Basisdeel/Ed1 specialisation as part of their master programme and then do the Verdiepingsdeel/Ed2 as a post-master course in order to become fully qualified. The programme should be approved by the coordinator, M.A.F.M. Jacobs. 3. Annotation Entrepreneurship This programme is especially tailored for students who want to start a company work after completing their master education. It consists of: a. Obligatory Entrepreneurship Modules (10 credits), b. Entrepreneurship electives (20 credits) The programme should be approved by the coordinator, Dr Linda Kamp. Article 8 - Honours programme Regulations on the Honours programme are described in article 11 of the Teaching & Examination Regulations of the Master s degree programme Sustainable Energy Technology The honours programme is a challenging additional programme for students with higher than average performance ( 7.5 weighted average). The honours programme consists of at least 20 EC on top of the regular master programme of 120 EC. The full Master s programme SET, including the additional honours programme should be finished according to schedule, with again a weighted average of 7.5 (see also: Rules & Regulations of the Board of Examiners, article 32A Pass/fail rules governing the Honours Programme Master) Schematic overview of the honours programme Collective Part (5 EC) UD2010, Critical Reflection on Technology, 5EC, obligatory Individual Part (15 EC): Students have the choice - to join the Company Oriented Honours Programme of Applied Sciences, AS1000HPM, 15 EC - to compose a challenging, coherent package of courses or projects of at least 15 EC The programme should be submitted to the faculty contact person for the honours program, mrs Helen Emmerink, after approval by the SET programme director Prof.Dr.Ir. J.L.Kloosterman. Article 9 Double degree Students who opt for a double degree should obtain permission of the programme director Prof.Dr.Ir. J.L.Kloosterman and the sub-board of Examiners MSc-SET. Double degree programmes combining MSc-SET with other MSc programmes, are always subject to the restrictions imposed by the university and comprises at least 180 EC. A double degree programme has at least two identifiable final project reports for both degree programmes. Formal permission from the Boards of Examiners of both faculties is required. The approved application has to be sent to the Executive Board for final decision on the Double Degree.. Article 10 Deviations from the programme Only in exceptional cases a deviation from the programme is possible. Such deviations need prior approval by the sub-board of Examiners; for this reason a student should send a legitimate request to the sub-board of Examiners after consultation of the profile coordinator. Article 11 Date of commencement These regulations will come into effect on 1 September Implementation Regulations MSc Sustainable Energy Technology SET DELFT
7 Appendix 1 3TU character of the Master s degree programme Sustainable Energy Technology 1. The Master s degree programme in Sustainable Energy Technology is a 3TU MSc programme. The programme is offered at TU/e, TUD (Delft University of Technology) and UT (University of Twente). The programmes have a similar structure and comparable core program. The programmes are not the same, in the sense that the courses and specializations at each university are different. Each programme has a different Croho number (programme registration according to the WHW). 2. If a student is admitted to the Sustainable Energy Technology programme at one of the 3 universities, he/she is also admitted to the programme at the other universities. 3. After a student is formally enrolled in the Master s degree programme in Sustainable Energy Technology at one of the 3 universities he/she will also obtain a secondary enrollment (neveninschrijving) at the 2 other universities. 4. The pre-master s programmes (bridging programmes) of the 3 universities are interchangeable. 5. The core programmes of the 3 universities are interchangeable. The core programmes are described in the separate Implementation Regulations of the 3 SET programmes (TUD, TU/e, UT) 6. Students are allowed to choose elective subjects from the lists of electives from each of the 3 SET programmes, after consultation with the graduation supervisor and approval by the Board of Examiners. 7. After choosing a profile or specialization, a student compiles a study programme in consultation with the graduation supervisor. The study programme has to be approved by the Board of Examiners.
