Protection for Unidirectional Light Path with Link Aggregation (LAG) Economical protection! 50msec protection 50msec protection N x I/F(LAG) N x I/F(LAG) Page 9
Protection for Unidirectional Light Path with Link Aggregation based on traffic usage LAG tech can delete the link within 50msec packet loss and can add new link without packet loss. Router I/F can be offline to reduce power consumption based on traffic usage. 10GE x 8 Pseudo I/F Less than 70Gbps Less than 60Gbps Less than 50Gbps Less than 40Gbps Less than 30Gbps Less than 20Gbps Pseudo I/F Offline Interface card Online Interface card Page 10
GMPLS signaling for Link Aggregation Simple! Unprotected type GMPLS signaling for each link with diverse route. Data plane supports Link protection with local policy. 10GE x 8 Pseudo I/F Pseudo I/F External PCE server for customized ERO based on carries policy. Page 11
How about protection for single link? Ethernet Link aggregation for multiple links to keep carrier grade service How can we provide carrier grade service with single link? Ethernet Link Aggregation? Page 12
What is OTN tunable Interface? Fiber Unidirectional G.709 framing with FEC. The payload will carry 10 Gig Ethernet LAN mode traffic. Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Wavelength switching within the supported wavelength on the optic, currently 2 wavelength per optic Tunable in ITU-Grid wavelengths etc Rx Tx 1 x Line card Page 13
Protection for Unidirectional Light Path with OTN tunable I/F (Challenge) I F MX MX MX MX I F Page 14
Bidirectional Light Path Fiber Bidirectional Bi-Direction optics use wavelength-divisionmultiplexing (WDM) technique to split the optical light path into 2 window. Transmit and receive optical signal travel on a single fiber. Working Protection Tx/Rx Tx/Rx 1 x Line card Page 15
Protection for Bidirectional Light Path (Challenge) I F Two fibers (Bidirectional per fiber) 1:1 light path I F Two fibers (Bidirectional per fiber) 1:1 light path Page 16
GMPLS signaling for OTN tunable I/F Unidirectional Light Path? Bidirectional Light Path? Two wavelengths per optic (per TE-Link)? Dynamic wavelength assignment? Use external PCE server? etc It s better to implement data plane first. GMPLS signaling should follow behavior of data plane. Page 17
Summary For multiple link connections in all optical network (OOO) No more Hot-standby line card for 1+1 protection, it s better to reduce power consumption. Link aggregation technique is the economical way to keep 50msec link protection with full utilization in each link based on traffic usage. GMPLS signaling for unprotected LSP for each link. For single link connection in all optical network (OOO) OTN tunable I/F for dual wavelengths per optic for protection. Unidirectional light path? or Bidirectional light path? OTN tunable I/F can assign wavelength External server such as PCE & NMS manages wavelength assignment and customized ERO for GMPLS signaling. GMPLS signaling should follow data plane behavior on OTN tunable I/F Who can create new IP Optical integrated network model? Page 18

ECOSYSTEM Ecosystem (ecology) The term ecosystem was coined in 1930 by Roy Clapham, to denote the physical and biological components of an environment considered in relation to each other as a unit. British ecologist Arthur Tansley later refined the term, describing it as the interactive system established between biocoenosis (a group of living creatures) and their biotope (the environment in which they live). Business Ecosystem The concept was introduced by Moore in the Harvard Business Review in May/June of 1993, and won the McKinsey Award for article of the year. Moore wrote - An economic community supported by a foundation of interacting organizations and individuals--the organisms of the business world. This economic community produces goods and services of value to customers, who are themselves members of the ecosystem. The member organizations also include suppliers, lead producers, competitors, and other stakeholders. Over time, they co-evolve their capabilities and roles, and tend to align themselves with the directions set by one or more central companies. Those companies holding leadership roles may change over time, but the function of ecosystem leader is valued by the community because it enables members to move toward shared visions to align their investments and to find mutually supportive roles.
