2 Energy efficiency Why energy efficiency? The idea of the application is to provide a tool to help the customer display the building in terms of energy efficiency (referred to here as Q Energy), CO2 emissions, and costs per year and compile a short or detailed analysis featuring degree days. The customer is further able to send s from this application to SIEMENS service to assist in finding a solution to reduce a building's operating costs. The tool can be that starting point to encourage reflection on the part of the customer on "how to reduce costs and the environmental impact of my building! The tool is available in Plant Viewer as both a genie and Super Genie. It calculates the energy efficiency coefficient (Q Energy in kwh / m2 a) and compares it to a range of equivalent buildings. Moreover, it also calculates annual CO2 emissions. Q Energy applies the following formula: Q Energy = ( (Year combustible used) x combustible coefficient / building surface area The coefficient combustible refers to the calorific value of the combustible. For example, 1 cubic meter (m3) of natural gas has a coefficient of 10.4 kwh. You can also correct for domestic hot water (DHW) if DHW was produced as part of the "year combustible used". In this case, the following formula applies: Q DHW = ((Year water volumes used) X DHW Coeff. x Delta temperature) / surface Q Energy final = Q Energy ( Q DHW + 10%) Whereby: - Domestic hot water Coefficient is kwh/m3k - Delta temperature is the final temperature achieve temperature of town water (e.g.: 55-10) - 10% is an estimation of energy lost during distribution. 8 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency
Consumed electricity can also be added to Q energy. Finally, apply the following formula to estimate CO2 (g CO2 / year): CO2 = (Year Energy used) x (Energy transport coeff.) X (CO2 equivalent coeff.) CO2 (m2 Year) = CO2 / Surface Q Energy and CO2 calculations represent an estimate of consumption (operating rating) and not the official "passport energy" as per applicable standards and generally requiring an asset rating (i.e. calculations are specific to the properties and include types of walls, window, insulation, etc). For an even in-depth analysis, you can use the super genie (depending on the country) to send an to SIEMENS service personnel to assist you with the calculations. Note Set the various coefficients used in formula in the INI file (see following chapters). You can then simply edit and print out the report after the calculations are run. Initial analysis using degree days What are degree days? Once Q energy is calculated can perform a short analysis that includes degree days for your location. Calculating energy and a rough estimate of a building's classification is good, but it fails to answer why consumption is higher from one year to another: You need degree days to get the answer. Degree days are essentially a simplified representation of outside air-temperature data. Degree days provide a way to indicate whether a given period is colder than another. Degree days are widely used in the energy industry to account for the effect of outside air temperature on building energy consumption. There are 2 types of degree days: "Heating degree days", or "HDD", are a measure of how much (in degrees), and for how long (in days), outside air temperature was below a specific "base temperature". HDD is used to calculate the energy required to heat buildings. "Cooling degree days", or "CDD", are a measure of how much (in degrees), and for how long (in days), outside air temperature was higher than a specific base temperature. CDD is used to calculate the energy required to cool buildings. Building Technologies Energy efficiency / 46
Base analysis Degree days analysis is simple: The Super Genie collects degree days (heating or cooling) for 1 period and divides annual consumption (kwh) by this value. Efficiency = Year Energy used (kwh) / HDD or CDD The lower the value (number of kwh per degree days), the higher a building's efficiency. You can manually enter the degree days for each period for the initial analysis. Note Extended analysis Degree days throughout the world can be downloaded from the following site if you do not know the value for degree days at your location: The web site downloads the degree days for your location and generates a file that can be imported to the Super Genie for analysis. The workflow is described below. You can conduct more detailed analysis of your building if you have metering or counter data available (trend for CSV/XML file) for the same period (the last 36 months). Various types of analysis are available, including: Performance line Linear regression is used to build the performance line. The method plots a graph of the DD for the month including monthly consumption and calculates the linear regression (equation: Y = A*X + B). The line indicates whether there is a strong correlation between consumption and outside air conditioning. The line also provides an indication on heating system behavior, e.g. the heating system has reached its limits (the line becomes horizontal) Control chart The control chart provides a visual display of how actual consumption varies from the performance line. The method involves subtracting predicted consumption (calculated by the performance line equation) from current consumption for each month. The method can display events for your building and indicate peaks that may require investigation (For example, the time clock was down for 1 month) 10 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency
CUSUM CUSUM is another statistical method to detect events in buildings (CUSUM: Cumulative sum of the difference). For example, a CUSUM can indicated whether investments made some months ago (e.g. replacing windows or boiler) had a positive impact (or not). Estimation And finally, Estimation calculates consumption for the next 12 months (Caution: the initial forecast is based on only 3 years history of degree days, so that differences may occur. The accuracy improves as you add new data for each month (up to a total of 10 years worth of historical data) A report is then available for edit and print after calculation. 2.1 Reference Requirements: The Desigo Insight project is created (project utility) and the site is configured and imported (System configurator, Database Import); basic graphics are completed. Refer to the document [1] Installation and configuration CM110591en for more information on how to create a project in Desigo Insight and import database. Refer to the document [2] Graphics engineering CM110593en for more information on Desigo Insight graphics engineering and creating Genies and Super Genie. 11 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency
3 Energy efficiency in runtime 3.1 Initial start First time energy efficiency The genie is displayed after compiling your project and starting the Plant Viewer. The genie is initially hidden with just the text "Click here to benchmark your building". The first time you click the test, two new INI files are created (EnergyEfficiency.ini / BuildingName.INI): The first INI file is the common file all energy efficiency Super Genies in your project. It contains various settings for calculations or information require in the Super Genie. The second INI file contains the specific settings for the Super Genie (used for the degree days Super Genie). The following Super Genie is displayed: All the data is saved to a text after entering the values in the Super Genie and initial calculation/save. The building name as defined is also displayed in the Genie. 3.2 Start calculation Click the Save button to start the energy efficiency calculation: Some fields are mandatory to get a proper Q energy and CO2 reject. An error message is displayed if you start the calculation and one or more fields are invalid; the corresponding field is highlighted in red. 12 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency in runtime
A red asterisk indicates that the field is a required field. Re-click the calculation button after acknowledging the message and entering a correct value in the required field. The calculation is completed once all the fields are correct and the results are displayed at the bottom of the Super Genie page. Calculations are possible for up to 3 periods with one period corresponding to 1 year. You can, however, shorten the consumption period to less than a year; a simple rule of 3 is used to adjust for 1 year. Please not that this does reduce accuracy accordingly. Periods 2 and 3 are hidden by default; simply check the box to show the period. 13 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency in runtime
Energy type You must select the energy type for the calculation. Selecting an energy type enables a button to allow you to view and set all the properties for this energy type (Energy coefficient, CO2 coefficient ) The information is derived from the INI file and saved to the test file (after calculation). Just re-select the energy type if you want to edit the values. Note Domestic hot water correction See Section 6 on how to customize the INI file. You can also adjust the calculation to account for domestic hot water. Check the following box and enter the volume for domestic hot water during the given period. The domestic hot water adjustment coefficient is displayed; simply click the button to make the adjustment: You can edit values in the following Super Genie and click reset to reload the original parameters (from INI file). 14 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency in runtime
Electricity consumed You can also add electricity consumed for heating to your Q energy calculation. Just enter the value in kwh. The option allows you to include building extensions that are heated using electricity to the complete calculation. Energy quantities display form Q energy is displayed for each period when the calculation is completed including an overall average for the period and main display. Two forms are available to display information. Select the Genie to view the corresponding form: Genie wk000_0_ug01_sg displays the following: Genie wk000_0_ug02_sg displays the following: Moreover, you can view a comparison by building type in a range (blue), provided you selected a building type. Results of the equivalent building type is displayed as follows: Form 1 Form 2 OR Note By default, the values for equivalent buildings in the Super Genie apply to weather conditions in central Europe. We recommend checking whether a list of reference 15 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency in runtime
buildings is available for your country. You can assign the new list in the INI file (see Section on INI file) Influence of basic degree days Enter the degree days value for each period in the Super Genie, if known. Click Enable Degree Days to enter degree days values and perform a short analysis. Thereafter, 3 new fields are displayed for each period. Click Calculation. A new graphic is displayed that provides an overview of building performance as it relates to the outside temperature. The value represents the amount of kwh per heating degree days. The lower the value the better the performance. 16 / 46 Building Technologies Energy efficiency in runtime

4.3 Import degree days data General Workflow: Retrieve degree days CSV file First, import degree days to the Super Genie are Degree Days. Degree days the world over are available at one WEB site ( This WEB site provides a CSV file of degree days for your location over the past 36 months. The file can then be imported to the Super Genie. 1. Click WEB site (link available in the Super Genie) 2. Enter the town in the yellow frame under Weather station ID and click Station Search. 3. A list of stations in the area is displayed; select the appropriate station. Note: Airports general provide a high level of data quality. 4. Select Degree day type (heating or cooling). 5. Select Temperature units. 6. Select Base temperature (i.e. the estimated temperature for your building heating system when it is switched off). 7. Select Monthly breakdown (only monthly works in the Super Genie) 8. Select period Last 36 months. 22 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
9. Click Generate Degree Days and wait for the file to be created. 10. Click Download now and save the file to your PC (for example C:\Temp\). Import degree days CSV file to Super Genie The CSV file is saved to your PC prior to importing it to the Super Genie. Click Import CSV file to import the file to the Super Genie and select the appropriate file. 23 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
Data displays as follows if the import succeeds: Weather station name Degree day type and base temperature The coldest month found (or warmest for cooling degree day type) Note A value displayed in blue and a % indicates that some data is missing from the weather station and the value, therefore, represents an estimate with the % indicating the degree to which the value is affected (the lower the value, the better). Note about data Base degree days analysis An internal database is created (\<project path location>\history\) the first time you import a degree days file with file name and XML extension. The file name is a reference and any new degree day data added over the next six months is added to the existing XML database. The internal database supports 10 years of historical data. The data is used for a forecast of the next 12 months. You can now conduct an initial, basic analysis if you launch the degree days Super Genie from the energy efficiency Super Genie. The base analysis checks the efficiency ratio for each period and reviews the trend (up or down). The Benchmark period values display the various periods calculated by the efficiency energy Super Genie. Define the period type as "Per year" (i.e. 1 period equals 12 months) to calculate the ratio using (field: Period format) and assign the correct energy period for the degree days period (field: Period associate). 24 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
Note Selecting year as the period results in only 2 periods with correct values (the last year is then only partially complete). 4.4 Import counter data Extended degree days analysis Manually enter counter data Monthly counter (or meter) data is required for conduct more detailed analysis in a second step. There are 3 ways to import counter data: Manually enter the data CSV file PX trend data The following button edits values in the degree days Super Genie: You can manually enter the meter values for each month. Values can be cumulated or monthly; the counter type field defines the type. You must also define the counter name and units. When finished, save the entries. They can now be displayed in the degree days Super Genie. Note about counter name Imports CSV file counter You must include the key word "counter" in the counter name the first time you define it. The is used to create an XML database under this name. The key word counter allows the Super Genie to distinguish between the degree day file and the counter file. You can then rename the description as desired. The CSV file counter is imported in the same way as you import the degree days CSV file and it recognizes the import as counter data as long as the file name includes the key word _Counter The CSV file uses the following syntax: 25 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
The counter description is defined in the first line; this description is displayed under counter name. Description:, The second line defines the unit used by the counter. The unit text is used by the Super Genie. Unit= The fourth line (the third line is set aside for help) is used to define the counter sample data type, if the value is monthly consumption (Month) or a cumulated value, pulse counter (Cumul) Type= (Month or Cumul) Data must begin at line 7 and apply the following format with date (10 characters), separated by a coma and then the value. YYYY-MM-DD,Value Data is displayed as follows if the import succeeds: Counter name Counter unit Counter data 26 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
Import trend counter Click Import Trend counter to import. A dialog box is displayed with a list of available PX trend objects for the current Desigo Insight project. Select a trend and click OK. You can define the following for trend import: Sample format Import checks the data stamp and selects only the first value for the month if different to monthly Data type Defines whether the trend contains cumulated values (typically, pulse counter) or real values (actual consumption for the month) Archive mounted You can add the trend archive to the trend import to maximum the data (up to the last 36 months), but the archive must be mounted (in Trend Viewer) prior to import. You must also indicate the number of archive files to be mounted. Note Data type must be cumulated for the daily/weekly counter. The clean counter data on Graphic button removes the counter data from the Super Genie. The reset button removes trend and degree days data from the Super Genie. 27 / 46 Building Technologies Degree days in runtime
