1 SOCET GXP V4.1 LICENSE MANAGER QUICK-START GUIDE FOR WINDOWS AND ORACLE SOLARIS Important Notice SOCET GXP v4.1 requires installation of the GXP License Manager v8.4. The GXP License Manager is a floating license manager that uses the SafeNet Sentinel License Manager. It runs in the background to manage licenses for one or more SOCET GXP workstations. The GXP License Manager can be installed on a system to manage licenses locally, or over a network to receive license requests from SOCET GXP workstations. Operating the GXP License Manager within a virtual environment requires the use of a dongle. Contact a GXP Customer Support representative to request a dongle. Note: A license server can be installed on Windows XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003 or 2008, and on Oracle Solaris SPARC 8, 9, and 10, and Oracle Solaris 10 x86. Any system can be a license server to receive license requests from client systems. For example, an Oracle Solaris SPARC system can be configured as the license server for Windows machines. Obtain a License Key SOCET GXP v4.1 requires a new license key. To request a license key file, visit the MyGXP Customer Portal at and complete the license request form, or send an to GXP Customer Support: [email protected]. 2 WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM STEP 1 Determine the GXP License Manager Version Select Start > All Programs > GXP License Manager > Server Tools > Server Status All versions of the GXP License Manager older than v8.4 must be uninstalled. Proceed to STEP 2. If GXP License Manager v8.4 is installed, proceed to STEP 4. STEP 2 Uninstall the Old GXP License Manager 1. Insert the SOCET GXP disk into the disk drive. 2. From the SOCET GXP Welcome! window, select GXP License Manager. The Windows Host ID displays a unique Locking Code at the bottom of the screen. 3. Select Install. 4. From the Manage Instances window, click OK. 5. Once the uninstall is complete, click Done. Note: An Instance Error requires a manual uninstall of the GXP License Manager through the Control Panel. STEP 3 Install the New GXP License Manager Note: Administrative privileges are required to install the GXP License Manager. 1. From the SOCET GXP Welcome! window, select GXP License Manager. 2. Select Install. 3. From the Introduction window, click Next. 4. Review the terms of the License Agreement. Select I accept and click Next. 5. Choose the installation location (default is recommended). If a previous version was uninstalled in STEP 2, click Browse... to specify the same destination location for installation. Click Next. 6. A dialog displays to overwrite the content if files exist in the chosen installation location, click Yes. 7. It is recommended that messages are logged from the GXP License Manager: choose Yes or No, and click Next. 8. From the Log File Location window, click Next. 9. From the Pre-Installation Summary window, click Install. 10. The Drivers have been installed window displays, connect a dongle if required, and click Next. 11. The Get a new license key file window displays indicating a license key cannot be found. Click No and click Next. Note: The license key file is installed in STEP A dialog displays to run the Host ID program, click OK. The SOCET GXP Host ID window displays a Locking Code. This number is used to generate a license key. Make note of this number, and provide it to Customer Support in STEP 4 to obtain the license key. 13. From the Install Complete window, click Done. SOCET GXP Welcome window GXP License Manager window The Windows Host ID application returns the SOCET GXP Host ID window with a unique Locking Code. Provide this number to Customer Support to obtain your license key. 2

3 STEP 4 Install the License Key 1. From the Customer Portal, complete the online SOCET GXP License Request form to obtain a license key from Customer Support using the Locking Code as noted in STEP 2 for upgrades, or STEP 3 for new installations. Note: The Locking Code is located at Start > All Programs > GXP License Manager > Host ID Data > SOCET GXP Host ID. 2. Install the received license key: Start > All Programs > GXP License Manager > Administration Tool. 3. From the Edit pull-down menu, select Preferences, and select the check box for each: Discover subnet servers on startup, Discover defined servers on startup, and Save these preferences to a file. Click OK. 4. If the server or computer name does not display in the Subnet Servers list, follow the procedures below to add it as a Defined Server. a. From the Edit pull-down menu, select Defined Server List. b. Enter the computer name as the server and click OK. If the server or computer name displays in the Subnet Servers list, proceed with number Right-click on the Server name (located at Defined Servers or Subnet Servers) and select Add Feature > From a File > To Server and its File. 6. Navigate to the license file received from Customer Support and click Open. 7. A dialog box displays when the licenses have been successfully added. 4 ORACLE SOLARIS OPERATING SYSTEM Note: Oracle Solaris 8 Launch the installer from a command prompt: cd <dvd>/licensemanager/<platform>/./gxp_lm_setup.bin -i console STEP 1 Determine the GXP License Manager Version At the command prompt, type /opt/gxplicmgr/lsver (for GXP License Manager installed in /opt/gxplicmgr). All versions of the GXP License Manager older than v8.4 must be uninstalled. Proceed to STEP 2. If GXP License Manager v8.4 is installed, skip to STEP 4. STEP 2 Install the GXP License Manager 1. Login as the root user. 2. From the SOCET GXP Welcome! window, select GXP License Manager. Note: If the installation detects a previously installed GXP License Manager running, it will quit and display instructions on how to stop the process: /etc/init.d/socet_lm stop. Stop the GXP License Manager and run the installation program again. The existing GXP License Manager upgrades automatically, saving the existing license keys. 3. When prompted to continue, enter y 4. Select the installation directory. The default directory is recommended. Press ENTER to select the default installation directory, /opt/gxplicmgr 5. It is recommended that messages be logged from the GXP License Manager. When prompted, type y or n 6. Add a license key: Add an existing license key: type y Add a new license key: type n The Locking Code displays. Complete the online SOCET GXP License Request form from the Customer Portal to obtain the license key from Customer Support using this Locking Code. Once received, proceed to STEP 3 for installation. 7. Enter the full license key path, or press ENTER to use the default location, /tmp/license_key.txt 8. 5 STEP 3 Install the license key After installing the GXP License Manager, install the license key by entering the following commands in the Xterm window. Login as the root user. cd /etc/init.d./socet_lm addlic <path>/license_key.txt Note: Provide the full path to the license_key.txt file that is delivered by Customer Support. The default path is /tmp. For Oracle Solaris 10 the socet_lm script is installed /lib/svc/method. Use the following if the command above fails: To obtain a license key Visit the MyGXP Customer Portal at and complete the license request form, or send an to GXP Customer Support: [email protected] 1. Stop the server. # /etc/init.d/socet_lm stop 2. Move the new license. # cd /opt/gxplicmgr # mv lservrc old_license_key.txt # mv new_license_key.txt lservrc 3. Restart the server. # /etc/init.d/socet_lm start 4. Verify proper operation. # lsmon 5
