6 Aims and Objective This study was undertaken to assess the awareness and inclination of gym going healthy people towards blood donation
7 Materials and Methods 27 gymnasiums were randomly selected in the city and rural area of Trivandrum. The owners of these gyms were approached to obtain their consent for participating in this study. A detail questionnaire was prepared to be distributed to the willing members of the gym through the owner/manager.
8 Materials and Methods 2 The questions were framed according to two categories: * Those who have donated blood * Those who have never donated blood The participation was entirely Voluntary Confidentiality of the information was assured to the participants.

10 Observations 2000 leaflets of Questionnaire distributed to 27 gyms Response by the participants: 1006 (50.3%) * No. of people who donated blood: 495 (49.2%) Range of donation: 1-8 donations * No. of people who never donated blood: 511 (50.8%)
11 Factors for Blood Donation: Donated Group (n=495) 293 (59%) donated only once Factors for Blood donation: Replacement donation 53.3% Humanitarian factor 16.4 % Good for Health 7.2% Health Check up 7.1% Recognition 3.8% For Experience 5.6% Getting Gift 0.7% Other (reduce body wt., opportunity, etc) 5.9%
12 Factors for Non-donated Group (n= 511) Lot of misconception still persists towards blood donation. Factors for Non-donation: Fear of Weakness: 34.2% Not interested in blood donation: 32.5% Restriction of activities : 26.1% Losing weight : 23.6% Apprehension towards blood donation: 21.6% Fear of contracting infections: 13.9% No idea about blood donation: 13.6%
13 Conclusion Gymnasium going Public: *Maintain good health and follow healthy life style *Good educational and socio-economical background *Belong to Low risk population Ideal candidate for Safe and Quality blood
14 Conclusion However, Many of them don t patronize blood donation; and Misconception towards blood donation still persists Awareness and Motivational programmes should be targeted for this group towards blood donation Access to safe and quality blood is ensured
