Cataloging tools for data creation and enrichment. WorldCat metadata powers thousands of libraries cataloging activities. OCLC WorldShare License Manager. An add-on or stand-alone service that centralizes your entire e-resource management lifecycle from selection, negotiation and acquisition, to access and ongoing maintenance in one place. You can manage license agreements, rights, access and resolution to full text from the same interface, eliminating the need to synchronize data across multiple interfaces or devise work-arounds to connect disparate systems. The integration of License Manager helps you manage and seamlessly deliver all formats of resources to your users from one place. FUTURE INNOVATIONS OCLC is developing new and innovative functionality, guided by the input of the library staff currently using the services. Cooperative Intelligence will provide aggregated, sharable data and data analysis that will allow libraries to use cooperative information for better decisionmaking. It will support cooperative collection development, collection profile sharing, better recommender services, and cooperative storage and preservation activities. Integrated access management will combine library profile information from the WorldCat knowledge base, access rights from the WorldShare License Manager and EZproxy to automatically configure remote access. Libraries can then automatically configure remote user support and provide easy access. WorldShare Interlibrary Loan will expand and enhance functionality now available with WorldCat Resource Sharing. It will add efficiencies and improve workflows, support delivery of print and electronic materials, simplify how users obtain resources, and promote library innovation with platformdriven APIs.
7 A closer look: Simpson University Located in Redding, California Just over 1,300 students The library owns 150,000 titles Planning for the future has its perks. When Simpson University Library s old server crashed on December 13, 2010, its staff were able to go live with OCLC WorldShare Management Services within one hour. The journey leading up to this critical point began in June 2009, when Larry Haight, Director of Library Services, and Eric Wheeler, Reader and Digital Services Librarian, questioned the reliability of their existing server, which was then seven years old. When they investigated costs to replace it, they realized that twothirds of their costs were for services. Said Larry, We had been watching the progress that OCLC had been making with WorldShare and it simply came down to significant cost-savings and features. We presented our case to all of the appropriate groups at our university, all of which agreed with our assessment: WorldShare Management Services was the way to go. In February 2010, they sent MARC records to OCLC for a batchload reclamation project. In August 2010, they went live with WorldCat Local quick start. So when their server crashed, rather than being out-of-luck... they were ready to make the change. We re saving money in a variety of ways with WorldShare Management Services. The one-time implementation fee was less than the cost of purchasing proprietary ILS software, and we won t have to replace an ILS server every seven or eight years. The WorldCat Local advanced search options provide outside discovery services (something we wanted but couldn t afford before). The WorldCat knowledge base replaced our link resolver and the WorldShare License Manager provides for our e-resource management. LARRY L.
