REGULAR OFFICER TRAINING PLAN (ROTP) RESERVE ENTRY TRAINING PLAN (RETP) APPLICANT PACKAGE AND CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE PART I INFORMATION AND GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. This package consists of two parts. Part I (pages I-1/5 to I-5/5) provides information about the ROTP programme while Part II (pages II-1/6 to II-6/6) is the actual questionnaire to be completed by applicants. This is not an enrolment form. Read the entire information portion carefully prior to completing the questionnaire. If you do not understand a response section, contact a Military Career Counsellor at your recruiting centre for assistance. 2. Print all your responses clearly and legibly in ink. Do not use a pencil. Ensure you answer all sections applicable to yourself. 3. If you are selected in the competition, you will receive a conditional offer to attend the Royal Military College of Canada, Campus Fort Saint-Jean, or a Canadian civilian academic institution to obtain a degree in a specific field of study in preparation for training and employment in a specific Military Occupation. The terms of your conditional offer will be determined by the requirements of the Canadian Forces. Your personal preferences will be considered. SECTION A - PLAN PREFERENCE 4. There are two distinct military education plans covered in this document: a. Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP): Under the terms of the ROTP you will be enrolled in the Canadian Forces (Regular) and receive full subsidization at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), Campus Fort Saint-Jean or an approved Canadian civilian university. You will receive a salary, free tuition and mandatory books and upon graduation serve a period of obligatory service as a commissioned officer in the Regular Force; or b. Reserve Entry Training Plan (RETP): Under the terms of the RETP you will be enrolled in the Canadian Forces (Primary Reserve) and pay your own tuition and expenses at the Royal Military College of Canada or Campus Fort Saint-Jean. Tuition and expenses at military institutions are normally less than those at civilian universities. During the summer months you will be paid by the Primary Reserve and undergo military training. Upon graduation you will serve as a commissioned officer in the Reserve Force. NOTE: Not all military occupations are available to RETP applicants. Please refer to Table 1 for details. SECTION B EDUCATION LEVEL 5. There are three entry levels for ROTP. These programmes are based on your educational level at the end of the current academic year. In the ROTP selection process, you will be considered as a Junior, a Senior or an Undergraduate applicant. a. Junior: A Junior applicant refers to an individual who will have completed Secondary V or in some cases Grade 12 at the end of the current academic year. Completion of specific subjects is required and these are published in the Royal Military College of Canada calendar. Applicants qualified as a Junior may only apply for the preparatory year, which will be held at Campus Fort Saint-Jean; b. Senior: A Senior applicant refers to an individual who will have completed senior matriculation or equivalent at the end of the current academic year. In most provinces, this is completion of Grade 12. In Ontario, Grade 12 is required and in Québec, CEGEP 1 is the minimum level required. Completion of specific subjects at these levels is required and these subjects are also published in the Royal Military College of Canada calendar; and c. Undergraduate: An undergraduate applicant refers to an individual who is presently attending a civilian university. These applicants may apply to begin sponsorship at Royal Military College of Canada or may be authorized to continue at their present institution in the present programme. NOTE: RMC shall determine the specific entry level for all applicants according to their academic qualifications. I-1/5
SECTION C INSTITUTIONAL PREFERENCE 6. The first priority of the Canadian Forces is to fill positions at the Royal Military College of Canada for all occupations other than for the medical occupations such as Nurse, Pharmacist and Physiotherapist. The Royal Military College of Canada is located in Kingston, Ontario and is an accredited university composed of students from every province and territory of Canada. You will follow general course patterns in engineering, science or arts until the end of the second university year, the fourth semester. During the third and fourth year, fifth through eighth semesters, you will follow courses specific to the degree programme chosen. 7. Applicants for ROTP at civilian universities must be eligible, upon completion of the present school year, for acceptance to the Faculty/University/School for the degree programme for which they are seeking ROTP sponsorship. If selected for sponsorship, you must have unconditional acceptance for the appropriate faculty prior to enrolment. 8. Junior applicants will be required to attend a preparatory year to prepare them for entry into the Royal Military College of Canada s first year. This preparatory year is normally held at Campus Fort Saint-Jean (the former site of the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean). 9. After researching the civilian universities of interest and the Royal Military College of Canada, indicate your institutional preferences by checking the appropriate box(s). SECTION D MILITARY OCCUPATION (MOSID) PREFERENCES 10. It is important that you thoroughly understand each Military Occupation and element of the Canadian Forces prior to identifying your choices. Your choices will determine your job and uniform upon graduation. Ask a Military Career Counsellor for assistance if you are not sure about your selection. 11. Listed in Table 1 (page I-3/5) are the specific Military Occupations that may be open to ROTP applicants. The degree choices that are normally sponsored for each occupation are shown on the right. You will note that there is a wide range of degree programmes sponsored in the Military Occupations. In other occupations, acceptable degree programmes are more restricted. Ask your Military Career Counsellor for specific details. 12. The Canadian Forces have three environmental elements, Sea, Land and. Each element has its own distinct uniform. Employment opportunities are quite unique in each element. However, some Military Occupations are common to all three environments, therefore, personnel selected for one of these occupations will be assigned one of the three environmental uniforms. It is also important that you be aware that the Canadian Forces constitute a united force and as a member of the latter, you may be required to serve with any or all of the of the environments (Land, Sea, or ) subject to any restrictions or provisions of the Military Occupation to which you are assigned, and irrespective of the environmental uniform you wear. 13. Make your choices bearing in mind the training, employment and academic programme required for each Military Occupation. Consider your choices carefully. Stating only one choice does not improve your chance of selection in the category. It does, however, limit other offers that the Selection Committee might extend to you. Please note that your second and third choices must be Military Occupations in which you would be willing to serve if your first choice were not available. 14. All Operations (00182 ANAV, PLT), Senior and Undergraduate applicants, must attend and successfully complete crew Selection Centre (ASC) testing prior to enrolment. Junior applicants selected for Operations must attend and successfully complete ASC testing prior to incurring obligatory service. The results of this testing are additional factors used in determining assignment to the Pilot or Navigator occupations. Unsuitable Operations applicants will be considered for their other occupation choices only if vacancies are available. I-2/5

Your degree programme choices are important and should be discussed with your Military Career Counsellor to ensure they are compatible with the Military Occupation you selected in Section D. 16. The programmes you select must match your capabilities and interests as well as the range of degrees normally sponsored for each occupation. If you have not already done so, take time to examine the calendars of a number of universities and for the Royal Military College of Canada prior to completing this section. You will find calendars and qualified persons willing to discuss your choices with you either at the recruiting centre or at your school guidance office. The few hours you spend now on advance planning may save you years of grief in a programme that is not suited for you. I-3/5
SECTION F CIVILIAN UNIVERSITIES APPLICATIONS 17. Although your primary academic institutional preference may be the Royal Military College of Canada, you are advised to apply to at least three civilian universities as well. As there are a limited number of positions available at the Royal Military College of Canada, you may be offered academic sponsorship at an approved Canadian university. In fact, should all the positions at the Royal Military College of Canada be assigned and you were selected in competition for sponsorship but did not apply to a civilian university, you would lose your offer. A listing of approved Canadian universities for ROTP sponsorship is available from your recruiting centre. SECTION G APPLICANTS CURRENTLY ATTENDING CIVILIAN UNIVERSITY 18. This section applies only to applicants who are undergraduate students attending a civilian university. SECTION H ACADEMIC HISTORY 19. To assist the Selection Committee in determining your academic suitability for entry into the competition, you are required to provide the recruiting centre with a copy of the academic results of your previous two years. Complete this section carefully. A false declaration or omission may constitute a reason to reject your application. a. Start with your most current or recent academic year in school, college or university. If you are not presently in school, college, or university, indicate the year of the last course(s) you took; b. Enter the name and address of your school; c. Indicate the «level» (year of schooling) as 10, 11, 12, (Québec IV, V, C1 or C2) or university 1, 2, et cetera; d. List all the subjects you are taking (Table 1) or will be taking (Table 2) during this academic year. Ensure you use a full descriptive title of your courses (e.g. Functions and Relations, Honours Algebra, etc.). Indicate the local coding of the course (e.g. MCA551, etc.) in the appropriate column; e. In the «Semester» column indicate the type of course taken by using the appropriate letter indicated in the brackets: Fall (F), Winter (W), Summer (S), Full Year (FY), Correspondence (C), Extension (X), Night School (N); f. Enter the marks (preferably as a % grade) of each course reported to you by your school, taking care to be accurate; g. If you cannot enter a letter or % grade beside a course, explain why (use I for incomplete, W for withdrew, F for failed ). Leave blank spaces where no marks are available in current courses; and h. Complete Table 3 with regard to courses repeated. 20. Students attending academic institutions in foreign countries must provide the recruiting centre with a copy of the course outline for each subject. This information is normally available from the institution or local board responsible for education. This is a mandatory requirement. SECTION I EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 21. Complete this section to include all extra curricular activities (homework, employment, sports, hobbies, music, et cetera). Please provide as much detail as possible. SECTION J VOLUNTARY DISCLOSURE ***YOU ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO PROVIDE ANSWERS TO ANY OF THE QUESTIONS IN THIS SECTION*** 22. While attending the Royal Military College of Canada you will receive instruction in your second official language during the academic year and in at least one of your summer training periods. Those attending civilian universities will receive instruction in their second official language during at least one of their summer training periods. You are asked to indicate your present linguistic ability in the English and French languages (questions a and b). 23. The remaining questions (c-f) relating to demographic information is for planning purposes only. I-4/5
CONCLUSION 24. All offers for ROTP and continued subsidization are conditional upon the following: a. That you enrol in the Military Occupation assigned by Canadian Forces Recruiting Group Headquarters; b. That you be found medically fit and maintain your medical category for the Military Occupation assigned prior to enrolment; c. That you follow the designated programme of study at the approved/assigned faculty/institution; d. That you maintain satisfactory academic results during the current academic year. Canadian Forces Recruiting Group Headquarters reserves the right to determine what constitutes Satisfactory academic results; e. That you attend and successfully complete Basic Officer Training; and f. For crew applicants, that you attend and successfully complete the crew Selection Centre testing. Other conditions as determined by Canadian Forces requirements may also be stipulated if an offer is made to you. 25. When you have completed the questionnaire portion, detach it from the information portion and submit it to your recruiting centre. The sooner you complete and submit your questionnaire, the sooner your processing can be completed. GOOD LUCK! I-5/5
