4 KSU Milling Specialist/Expert Credentials The credentialing program emerged from a broadly expressed industry need for energized and enabled employees in the flour milling industry. This program is designed to meet needs for: milling companies seeking better qualified new employees, milling companies seeking ways to train current employees, young people interested in obtaining jobs in the grain industry, industry professionals interested in improving job skills, industry professionals interested in career advancement.
5 KSU Milling Specialist/Expert Credentials Objective: All required courses in the program will provide knowledge and training needed for successful operation of a flour mill or grain processing facility.
6 KSU Milling Specialist/Expert Credentials Verifies that industry professionals completed all required course work, ensures that have industry professionals passed all required examinations, is valid for a determined length of time, and is maintained through continuing education.
7 KSU Milling Specialist Credential TOTAL REQUIREMENT = 9 CEUs Distance Course Requirements (3 CEUs): IGP 500: Introduction to Flour Milling (1 CEU) IGP 520: Grain Receiving, Cleaning and Conditioning (1 CEU) IGP 530: Quality Control/Quality Assurance Practices in Flour Milling (1 CEU) Or IGP 540: Flour Milling Industry Safety (1 CEU)
8 KSU Milling Specialist Credential On site Course Requirements (6 CEUs): IGP 501: Mill Processes I 4 days; 30 hours; 3 CEUs pre requisite: Introduction to Flour Milling IGP 502: Mill Processes II 4 days; 30 hours; 3 CEUs pre requisite: Mill Processes I Industry professionals who previously took one of these courses will receive credit towards completion of the KSU Milling Specialist credential
9 KSU Milling EXPERT Credential KSU Milling EXPERT Credential: 9 CEUs Pre requisite: Successful completion of KSU Milling Specialist Credential IGP 503: Expert Milling 4 days; 30 hours; 3 CEUs; pre requisite: Mill Process II IGP 5XX: One Specialty Milling Course DURUM, SOFT WHEAT, CORN, SORGHUM, RICE Successful completion of additional courses via distance or on site for a total of 9CEUs.
10 KSU Milling Specialist/Expert Credentials Documenting course/credential completion KSU IGP provides certificates for each completed course and for completion of the credential Recording of CEUs CEUs are recorded via KSU Division of Continuing Education which can provide transcripts to participants and employers at any time Need for a Program Oversight Committee NAMA Milling Science & Operations Committee provide guidance, input and peer review of course content and prioritization of courses to be developed champion credential in the North American and global milling and grain processing industry Partnering opportunities Offering this program as a KSU XXXX partnership with an industry organization such as NAMA, IAOM or GEAPS remains a possibility

13 IAOM Regional Training Program Program Goals This program is designed to meet the needs of mills across the country having difficulty finding and retaining qualified shift and head millers. It is also designed to provide an option for students, particularly those interested in agriculture, with another option for study. The program is designed to meet the needs of: High school upperclassmen and graduates Others preparing to enter the workforce New mill employees Milling companies wanting to provide formal education to inexperienced millers
14 IAOM Regional Training Program Program Objectives The objective of the Regional Training Program for Operative Millers is to provide students with exposure to the process of flour milling and to provide them practical training in mill operations. The program will also expose students to the principles of operation of various types of mill machinery.
15 IAOM Regional Training Program Course requirements include: Semester 1 Technical Math Industrial Electricity Introduction to Milling and Wheat Industrial Safety Semester 3 Computer Integrated Manufacturing Milling Performance, Wheat Classes and Sanitation Electromechanical Devices Flour Additives and Quality Assessment Semester 2 Introduction to Wheat Cleaning and Conditioning Wheat Flour Milling I Wheat Flour Milling II Pneumatics Semester 4 4 week Internship at commercial run flour mill
16 IAOM Regional Training Program Milling specific Content The milling specific content should be developed jointly between KSU faculty/staff and IAOM members and industry experts. The content would be delivered via distance learning, offered through Kansas State University. Course Completion Upon completion of all coursework, the student would be awarded with a Flour Milling Certificate from the offering school, endorsed by the IAOM. It is expected that mills inside and outside the area would want to recruit from the program. Completion of Pilot Program Upon successful implementation of the pilot program, IAOM will work with other community colleges and/or vocational technical schools located near milling facilities to develop similar programs and curricula.
