2 Company Profile AASTI Automation SRL, company founded in 2002, is one of the youngest members of ASTI group. Since 1990, when the first ASTI company was established, ASTI has been a constant promoter of the most advanced automation systems in Romania. Modern industrial plants are hard to operate without modern automation systems. This was from the beginning the trigger of our activity. Getting together academic experience of university professors with industrial experienced specialists, ASTI formed a successful team able to promote the most advanced automation concepts and products in the industry. ASTI team members pioneered the first industrial computers in the early eighties including the first industrial process control applications. ASTI promoted and introduced the first SIEMENS SIMATIC S7-400 application in Romania. Other brands like Rittal and EPLAN were represented in Romania for the first time by ASTI. Currently we are in excellent relations with companies representing major brands in the automation industry and academic media. The ASTI group consists of privately owned, family enterprises. ASTI Automation is located in Bucharest, in a green area close to the city center, where the ASTI group is the owner of more than square meters of office space divided in two buildings. Our location is strategically placed near the University Politehnica of Bucharest and other important research and engineering companies. ASTI Automation has its own production and storage facilities. The best students also have the chance to be involved in real industrial projects.

3 Industrial experience ASTI Automation focuses on industrial automation as it s core activity and main area of competence across the group. As company or as individuals, our specialists have acquired vast experience in various industrial application fields. We started by designing our own process computers and microcontrollers when advanced technology was not yet widely accessible. Today we are using the most up-to-date hardware and software tools and development environments to develop complex automation solutions. During more than 20 years of experience, ASTI has participated in complex industrial automation projects. 5 didactic equipment We found out that the knowledge gap of the average industry user has to be quickly bridged in order to accept and later to properly use and maintain the automation systems There is a need of the universities for didactic equipment built around modern automation hardware. ASTI Automation, in close cooperation with The Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science from the University Politehnica of Bucharest, has developed a program with didactic equipment according to the systems engineering curricula. Our didactic equipment covers most of the field level and level one of automation as known from the automation pyramid. For the field level, our didactic training modules cover transducers, motors and drives and pneumatic actuators. Level one of automation is represented by Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) of several types and brands, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and communication network devices. All didactic equipment are designed to be a part of the complex Integrated Systems Engineering Laboratory (ISEL). ISEL is a turnkey laboratory configuration with training platforms, computer clients with all necessary software and a central server where each student stores his work for final evaluation. ASTANK 2 The hallmark of the recent research and development activities in the field of technical training system is the high versatile coupled tank system ASTANK 2. The system consists of two coupled tanks with different shapes, which increase complexity in modeling and control, a common reservoir, three independent pumps (one with variable speed drive) and a complex set of electronic and manual valves, pressure, level and flow transducers. ASTANK 2 can be easily interfaced with a wide range of PLC trainers or process interfaces. The large array of sensors and actuators ASTANK 2 is equipped with offer a great flexibility in developing experiments for teaching and research. Vibration analysis system The main activity required when discussing predictive maintenance in a mechanical system is to measure the frequency of machine vibrations. In this way it is possible to determine and analyze when a machinery is not working properly (e.g. has worn-out bearings or unbalanced rotating elements etc.). This aspect is very important if one desires to improve the productivity of a specific machine. Imagine that a worn-out bearing can break in any moment and cause other major damages and after that you will be forced to spend more money and more time for a general maintenance, of course having the production line shut down. Instead of that, a device that can monitor the frequency of machine vibrations can be used and it will alarm you when a limit is exceeded. The Vibration Analysis Learning System (VALS) contains two essential parts: an experimental unit with a rotating shaft with sensors mounted on and The Condition Monitoring System with SIEMENS SIPLUS CMS2000 for vibration analysis. The stand proposed for study consists of a mechanical structure in which a variable speed drive spins a shaft with a flywheel through a mechanical coupling. The shaft is secured at both ends in two ball bearings. The tie holes on the flywheel are provided for mounting weights for imbalance.

7 Training courses ASTI Automation, an industrial automation solutions and didactic equipment provider, is also a training provider. Industrial production is more and more dependent on quality and production cost control. This can be achieved by advanced process automatic control of advanced manufacturing technologies. Advanced automation requires cutting edge equipments, sophisticated control algorithms and, last but not least, highly skilled people. Skilled people to operate sophisticated automation systems are available only through continuous training to keep pace with automation industry developments. Training courses are customized after specific client s needs. Usually the proposed training courses aim to renew the basic automation principles and to introduce new equipment and automation concepts. Such courses are dedicated for industry personnel.

8 Students Practicum In cooperation with several technical universities and financed by them or / and EU founds, ASTI Automation organizes at its premises the summer practicum of students. During 12 weeks of practicum, students have the chance to practically consolidate theoretical knowledge by using in house designed and manufactured didactic equipments. The best students have the chance to participate in real industrial automation projects receiving tasks according to their training level. The summer practicum of students ends with an evaluation and the best students are rewarded.
