3 Persona - Newbie Expert of Tuleap Lee FOCUS ON A SPECIFIC TASK, ON A SPECIFIC ROLE BACKSTORY Lee has been using Tuleap for less than three months. He spends one to five hours per week on Tuleap. Before Tuleap, he has used other ALM tools like Eforge, ScrumDo, and ScrumWorks. Agile developer & leader Canada Area Computer Software He works as a developer in the same organization since 998. Currently he s developping an open source contribution service. He has many different roles : he s an agile coach, and he s a scrum master and a developer on the same project. He s aware it s not consistent with the good agile practice which requests that each of these roles is a full time job, but he has to share his time (about a third on each role) until the team grows. So what s important to him is to focus on specific tasks through his different roles. // INTERESTS // USER STORIES FAMILY & HOBBIES Married with three children. Sports, music, science TECHNOLOGY COMFORT Stays informed by using RSS feeds and social network Owns Ipods, Ipads, Mac book. Tries to use his personal Mac book has much as possible in his organization. 5 As a product owner (or as a developer, or an agile coach), I want to configure my views in Tuleap according to my role, so that I can focus on a specific task without being distracted by informations I don t need to see on the interface. As a product owner, I want to see my previous sprints in my agile dashboard, so that I can know what was my previous velocity. As a product owner, I want to have a view that summarizes trackers informations from the agile dashboard, so that I can get an overview of my project. As a product owner, I want to see the complexity and priority of an epic from my backlog/planning dashboard, so that I can easily organize artifacts. As a product owner, I want to move a story from a sprint to another, or from an epic to another, so that I can plan or re-plan my next release. // USE OF TULEAP - AND NEEDS Align good practices within his organization, from agile process to development, through all their projects. Do some planning and backlog grooming. POSITIVE POINTS Tuleap is flexible, dynamic, and as an admin I have several ways to change its behavior, to configure it to my process and my needs. I can configure my project in a very detailed way. The burndown is handy to see the progress and velocity of my team. PAIN POINTS Improve views depending on what role I practice. There is too much information presented on the screen, it s too noisy and it s distracting. It s hard to know which view to use to manage relation between artifacts. 4 Persona - Newbie Expert of Tuleap Lee Continued // A DAY IN THE LIFE - A TYPICAL WORKING DAY In the morning, as a product owner he wants to start a planning, and do some backlog grooming. He goes to his agile dashboard to check the sprint planning and prepares stories that he will submit to his team on the next meeting. He organizes or re-organizes his next release, moving a story from a sprint to another, or from an epic to another. In Tuleap, he opens his current project, and then checks the trackers (requirements, epics, sprints) to have a high level view on the requirements, and to anlayze and possibly accept them. // USE OF TULEAP - ACTIVITIES AND FREQUENCY OF USE ACTIVITIES IN TULEAP Managing & configuring projects Managing & configuring trackers, groups, permissions, notifications... Submitting & updating artifacts Coding & using Git/Subversion FREQUENCY OF USE Never Frequently Expert TIME SPENT ON TULEAP DAILY - hours, depending on the role he s practicing. 5 Persona - Newbie Expert of Tuleap Anna MANAGE MY PRODUCT MORE INTUITIVELY BACKSTORY Anna has been using Tuleap for less than three months. She spends five to ten hours per week on Tuleap. Before Tuleap, she has used another ALM tool, Jira. In Tuleap, she spends most of her time looking at the card wall, the backlog/ planning wall, and the burndown chart. Team Lead & Developer Canada Area Computer Software // INTERESTS She s new to her organization, and works there since four months. As a team lead, she s a scrum master and a product owner, and she s also a developer. She uses Tuleap for managing products, backlogs and sprints in general. So what s important to her is to easily and quickly manage tasks and support tickets in user stories. // USER STORIES FAMILY & HOBBIES Gym, video games, hangout with friends TECHNOLOGY COMFORT Stays informed by using RSS feeds and social network Owns 5 devices: laptops, playbook, mobile phones. As a product owner, I want to move a task to a different story, so that I can plan or re-plan an artifact. As a product owner, I want to have artifacts from another project showing up in my cardwall, so that I can have an overview of my artifacts through different projects. As a product owner, I want to see the description on hover the card in my card wall, so that I don t have to leave the cardwall to see the informations related to my artifact. As a product owner, I want to see the statuses of my current sprint automatically updated in my project dashboard, so that someone in management or someone above can actually see the work that s been done. 5 As a product owner, I want to link to an existing wiki document from inside my artifact, so that I can share references to my team or stackeholders. // USE OF TULEAP - AND NEEDS Manage tasks and support tickets in user stories. Do some planning and backlog grooming. POSITIVE POINTS Having the wiki integrated with the agile dashboard in Tuleap is very handy. I like the ease of which you can create trackers, I like the fact that it s flexible and that you can create as many trackers as you want. PAIN POINTS There are some bugs in Tuleap, and I spend a lot of my time fixing artifact links that are broken. I want to move a task to a different story, maybe I m doing wrong but I can t just drag & drop or just say move to an other story. There is no limitation how trackers are related. I takes a long time to do certain things, like cross tracker search or going to the planning board. User Interviews for Tuleap Open ALM May 0 tuleap-uxteam@tuleap.net 5
6 Persona - Newbie Expert of Tuleap Anna Continued // A DAY IN THE LIFE - A TYPICAL WORKING DAY In the morning, she reviews support tickets that her team is working on. In Tuleap, she checks what the statuses are, or goes to the cardwall and takes a look at where the issues are, and possibly gets the details. She has to do some documentation so she uses the wiki feature in Tuleap. She copies and pastes different pieces of information from other wikis on other applications. She starts planning, just doing some backlog grooming, preparing and creating following sprints, so that she has a structure and a place to put things. // USE OF TULEAP - ACTIVITIES AND FREQUENCY OF USE ACTIVITIES IN TULEAP Managing & configuring projects Managing & configuring trackers, groups, permissions, notifications... Submitting & updating artifacts Coding & using Git/Subversion Managing documents and wiki FREQUENCY OF USE Never Frequently Expert DURING THE LAST MONTH She has configured zero project, and one tracker. 7 Persona - Expert User of Tuleap Paul AUTOMATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO MAKE LIFE EASIER BACKSTORY Paul has been using Tuleap for about six years. He spends one to five hours per week on Tuleap. Before Tuleap, he has used other ALM tools like Codex. Software Project Manager Grenoble Area Computer Software He works in his organization since 9 months. He s both a team lead and a developer, using scrum in his daily process. He was hired to help his organization create a new software development activity and culture, bringing methodologies and tools. That s why he proposed Tuleap technology. He also uses Tuleap to manage his sports club, using dashboards views, tracking, document exchange and traceability. So what s important to him is to interface Tuleap with other tools like Gerrit, and easily know what are the applicable versions of a reference document. // INTERESTS // USER STORIES FAMILY & HOBBIES Children Sports (playing and managing a club) TECHNOLOGY COMFORT Owns dekstop (Windows), Iphone, Ipad, Netbooks. Owns Tuleap platforms: one for hiw work, the other for managing his tennis club. As a project manager, I want to track changes and clearly differenciate a document version, so that I don t have to use another tool in addition to my approval system. As a project manager, I want to define trackers and artifacts hierarchies to fit DO-78 and 5 norms, so that I can ensure compliancy and get to the avionics market. As a project manager, I want to generate documents that respect the DO-78 and 5 norms, so that I can manage avionics and embedded software projects. As a project manager, I want to see all inter-project links, so that I can browse projects between different departments (hardware, software) and roles (software project manager, R&D, developer). 5 As a developer, I want to have the same user ID between Tuleap and Gerrit, so that I can access it more easily. // USE OF TULEAP - AND NEEDS Interface Tuleap with other tools: code review, continuous integration, and also artifact generation to do some documentation. POSITIVE POINTS One of the greatest assets in the system is that is you re not stuck with a standard model tracker, you can configure it to your process. PAIN POINTS Document management: there is no simple way to differenciate a version that has been approved from a version that is being reviewed. Link software and equipment to help customers go to market faster, and Ecrin to be a little more competitive. I like the tracker management and the dashboard related, and the fact that the command line interface is usable. For someone new to Tuleap, the navigation is not intuitive, especially on the documentation management side. Compliancy with DO-78 and 5 norms to get to the avionics market. Document management is robust, and it s really good on traceability. Gerrit is not fully integrated in Tuleap yet. User Interviews for Tuleap Open ALM May 0 tuleap-uxteam@tuleap.net 7
8 Persona - Expert User of Tuleap Paul Continued // A DAY IN THE LIFE - A TYPICAL WORKING DAY In the morning, as a developer he goes to his dashboard in Tuleap to see what development task he ll take today. He does some code review, and then goes update his task in Tuleap, before his daily confcall at 0:0 am with his team in Berlin. He develops on a dekstop (Linux), submits a patch in Gerrit that automatically interacts with his continuous integration tools. In the afternoon, he does some document management for a R&D project. From to 5 pm, he has some meetings. He works with his colleague on a R&D prototype. // USE OF TULEAP - ACTIVITIES AND FREQUENCY OF USE ACTIVITIES IN TULEAP Managing & configuring projects Managing & configuring trackers, groups, permissions, notifications... Submitting & updating artifacts Coding & using Git/Subversion Managing documents and wiki FREQUENCY OF USE Never Frequently Fluent DURING THE LAST MONTH He has configured three projects, and one tracker. THE SET UP HE S MOST PROUD OF The interactions between trackers, Jenkins and Gerrit. OTHER ACTIVITIES IN TULEAP Automatic Reporting Automated Continuous Integration and Code Review Using collaboration tools Automatic Tracker management 8
9 Persona - Current User of Tuleap Eric IMPROVE THE WHOLE PROJECT ACTIVITY BACKSTORY Eric has been using Tuleap for almost three years. Tuleap was the first ALM tool he has ever used. Three years ago it was just a test, and a year ago he started to use Tuleap daily, about one to five hours a week. Software Engineer Lyon Area, France Automotive He works in his organization since two years. He s a software developper and a project manager. He uses V-cycle methodology in his daily process. So what s important to him is to make information accessible and to do some reporting to the team. // USER STORIES // INTERESTS HOBBIES Sports, music, concerts TECHNOLOGY COMFORT Stays informed by using RSS feeds and social network Owns 7 devices: laptops, dekstops, mobile phones. As a project manager, I want to implement cross trackers between projects, so that I can anticipate errors and benefit from the team experience as I start a new project. As a project manager, I want to export a tracker to Excel, so that I can share information with my supplier. As a project manager, I want to see parent-child relations between artifacts from inside my artifact, so that I can share the different applied changes to my project team. As a project manager, I want to have a flow chart view when I configure my trackers to my workflow, so that I can share it with everyone. 5 As a project manager, I want to drag & drop a field in the tracker workflow, so that I can configure trackers to match my needs. // USE OF TULEAP - AND NEEDS Easily report and share information with his client as well as with his team. Improve the visibility on what they re interacting on, and with whom. POSITIVE POINTS I can easily give access to people who needs an information, by sharing links. I can quickly and easily provide a summary of informations by using trackers for reporting and sharing screenshots. PAIN POINTS As my suppliers and clients are using Excel, I d like to export a tracker to Excel so that I can easily share information with them. We need to quickly move from one tracker to another. 10 Persona - Current User of Tuleap Eric Continued // A DAY IN THE LIFE - A TYPICAL WORKING DAY In the morning, he wants to prepare the afternoon meeting with his clients. In Tuleap, he opens his current project, and then opens his task tracker to check what opened tasks are progressing, or if there is a new task. At pm, he has his meeting with his clients. Then he tries as much as possible to centralize informations related to his project in Tuleap. // USE OF TULEAP - ACTIVITIES AND FREQUENCY OF USE ACTIVITIES IN TULEAP Managing & configuring projects Managing & configuring trackers, groups, permissions, notifications...
