7 COURSE DESCRIPTONS ACCO114 Fundamentals of Accounting 1 The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental principles and concepts of accounting. This course will provide students with practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of Accounting procedures and practices as it relates to the effective and efficient functioning of an organisation. The course is a very comprehensive one. Its content extends from the very basic accounting concepts to the preparation of financial statements, the correction of errors and the concept of Value Added Tax, (VAT). ACCO124 Fundamentals of Accounting 11 The Fundamental purpose of this course is to build on the fundamental principles and concepts of Accounting that students acquired in Fundamentals of Accounting 1. Students will be introduced to more complex issues particularly accounting for Partnerships and Companies. The course aims at giving students a more in-depth understanding of accounting procedures and practices while allowing them to apply these principles in the Accounting environment. 7 / 15

This course provides an understanding of organizations, their role in society and the functions of individuals within these organizations. The course will also develop students appreciation for the interrelationship of organization and their environment. MARK121 Principles of Marketing MARK 121 is designed to emphasize the key concepts and issues, which form the basic principles of modern marketing practices. CSMT211 Customer Service Management This course focuses on the concepts of customer service and the importance of delivering superior customer service for achieving a competitive advantage. Therefore, the focus is the use of the stages of the writing process and the expository methods of organizing information. Expository and Argumentative writing are 12 / 15

13 the main types of writing used in college. As such the elements of formal essay, as well as basic principles of Standard English are stressed. ENG124 English Business This course will enable students to gain important skills in written communication and also develop skills on how to orally present or communicate information in a variety of business situations and in the development a career. ENG213 Communication Speech This course is designed as an introduction to the study of the human communication process with an emphasis on effective public communication. This will be taught through instruction in both theory and practice of delivery and diction as well as public speaking, critical reasoning, critical thinking and critical listening, group and panel discussions and debates. It will include intensive practice in public speaking. It will also emphasize the organization and presentation of informative speeches, persuasive speeches and speeches for special occasions. MATH125 2 College Algebra This is the second of two courses for students majoring in areas such as accounting, business, social sciences etc. and includes algebra, series, trigonometric functions, logarithms and the exponential function. 15 This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts of probability and statistics in such a way which encourages: enjoyment of the subject. Emphasis is placed on the fact that statistics can also be viewed as a process in data management during the course of a research.
