4 1990 Dr. Richard Doyle develops the care guidelines. The 1st edition is a spiral-bound, four-volume set Offered via compact disc or print, 116 hospitals use the nine-volume 8th edition of the guidelines The MCG staff grows to 210, including 44 medical doctors and registered nurses. With more than 25,000 unique references, the newly released 18th edition is distributed digitally and optimized for tablet computers such as the ipad. The care guidelines are now used by 8 out of the 10 largest U.S. health plans and 1,200 hospitals.
