2 About Lawrence Hargrave Lawrence Hargrave Private Hospital is set in the tranquil seaside suburb of Thirroul, 20 minutes from Wollongong and 30 minutes from southern Sydney. We are a 54 bed specialist rehabilitation facility boasting modern private rooms, a fully equipped gymnasium, treatment rooms and the Illawarra s largest hydrotherapy pool. We employ a professional and expert team who are dedicated to providing you with the best possible care. We will work with you to design a rehabilitation program catering to your individual needs and involve you in all aspects of your rehabilitation care. 3 Your Rehabilitation Our philosophy is that rehabilitation is a process involving your active participation, your family and our staff to achieve mutually agreed and meaningful goals. You and your family are encouraged to be involved in the rehabilitation program and decisions regarding your treatment. The rehabilitation team aims to: Provide a warm and caring environment that facilitates your recovery Provide an individually tailored rehabilitation program with the goal of optimising your level of independence and functional recovery Provide assistance in planning your ongoing care and long term follow up where appropriate Lawrence Hargrave provides the following rehabilitation programs for both Inpatients and Day Patients: Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Neurological Pain Management Cardiac Post Surgery/Reconditioning Amputee Inpatient Information Admissions Process All inpatient admissions are on the recommendation of your Specialist or GP. Our Admissions Officers can answer any questions you may have about your health fund s coverage for rehabilitation programs. Following your admission to Lawrence Hargrave, your rehabilitation plan will be developed based on the results of your initial assessments conducted by our medical, nursing and allied health team. We encourage you to actively participate in the setting of your rehabilitation goals. The team caring for you will meet regularly during your stay to monitor your progress and review your goals. What to bring Please ensure you bring the following personal belongings; Light, loose, comfortable day clothes and closed shoes for therapy (eg. t-shirts, shorts, tracksuit etc.) Nightwear A swimming costume if you are undertaking hydrotherapy Toiletries Any previous walking aids Lawrence Hargrave Private Hospital Rehabilitation Services 3

4 Your Room Lawrence Hargrave Private Hospital strives to accommodate all preferences for private or shared accommodation. In the circumstances that your particular choice is not available at the time of your admission, our staff will make every effort to move you to your preferred room as soon as possible. Our large modern rooms offer an exceptional level of quality. All private rooms feature easily accessible ensuites designed to facilitate your recovery in a comfortable and safe environment. Visiting Hours Visiting hours for our rehabilitation patients are from 11am to 8pm. It is advisable to ask your family and friends to phone you prior to visiting to check your therapy schedule. We request that family and friends aim to visit you outside of your therapy times where possible. Visiting hours for our palliative care patients are unrestricted. 5 Your Rehabilitation Program The length of your program and the type of therapies you will be undertaking will be determined after your initial assessments by your Rehabilitation Specialist and your therapists. 6 Information about your Account Patients covered by Private Health Insurance If your hospital program is covered by private health insurance, the account will be sent directly to the relevant organisation. We will complete a fund check for all prospective patients prior to admission. On admission, you will be asked you to complete a form enabling the hospital to claim directly from your fund. You will also receive a written quote for any costs that are not covered by your fund. Department of Veteran s Affairs We are accredited by the Department of Veteran s Affairs as a Tier 1 facility. As a gold card holder, all hospital fees will be covered. Third Party/Workers Compensation Claims If your hospital admission is covered by Workers Compensation or a transport accident scheme, approval will need to be sought prior to your admission. Self-funded Patients As a self-funded patient we ask you to pay the estimated cost of your hospitalisation upon admission. Upon discharge, any additional charges will need to be paid. Medicare Accounts For some services, including; medical visits, x-ray and pathology, you may receive a separate account or we will bill Medicare on your behalf. You may be able to claim any outstanding amounts from your private health insurer.
