3 Main Functions Data gathering Zabbix offers great performance for data gathering and can be scaled to very large environments. Data is gathered using various methods, including Zabbix native agents and agentless options: SNMP, IPMI, WMI, trappers, SSH, Telnet, web checks, VMware, ODBC. TM Data storage Once Zabbix has gathered the data it doesn t throw it away, but stores it for later analysis, which can be reused further for billing, custom reporting, forecasting or any other purpose. 4 Architecture Zabbix Proxy Zabbix proxy is a process which can collect performance and availability data on behalf of the Zabbix server. This way, a proxy can take on itself some of the load of collecting data and offload the Zabbix server. Zabbix Agent Zabbix agent is a process deployed on monitoring targets to actively monitor local resources and applications (hard drives, memory, processor statistics, network, file systems, etc). The agent gathers operational information locally and reports data to Zabbix server for further processing.
