1 Brentwood Borough School District Continuous Improvement Plan The following goals were developed following a study of the District s Comprehensive Plan, evaluation of the goals met during the school year, and meetings with the administrative and supervisory team and the Board of School Directors. GOALS: 1. To improve student academic performance and achievement in all academic areas with particular emphasis on math, reading, writing, and science. A. Elroy and Moore Elementary Schools, Brentwood Middle School, and Brentwood High School will meet the annual academic growth expectations as established by Pennsylvania regulations. B. The percentage of all students that score at the proficient or advanced level on the PSSA assessments will increase from the previous school year. C. The percentage of historically low performing students that score at the proficient or advanced level on the PSSA assessments will increase from the previous school year. D. The percentage of students that score at the proficient or advanced level on the Keystone Exams will increase from the previous school year. E. The achievement gap for all students and historically low performing students will decrease from the previous school year. F. The percentage of student failures in each subject area will decrease from the previous school year. G. The percentage of students with disabilities graduating from high school and seeking employment and/or post secondary education/training will increase from the previous school year. H. The composite of the mean Verbal and mean Mathematics SAT scores will increase from the previous school year. I. The percentage of Advanced Placement tests that receive a score of 3 or higher will increase from the previous school year. Action Plan for Goal #1: Action Step 1.1 Implement PA Core aligned K-12 mathematics and Social Superintendent, Curriculum Studies curricula instruction and assessment Math Social Studies 1.2 Continue to align the K-12 English/Language Arts curriculum, Superintendent, Curriculum instruction, and assessment to the PA Common Core Standards English/LA 1.3 Continue to analyze student achievement data and align Superintendent, Curriculum curriculum, instruction, and assessment Coordinator, Principal, to the PA Core Standards Biology Teacher

2 Continuous Improvement Plan Page Implement in grades 6-8 and align in grades 9-12 Superintendent, Curriculum school science curriculum, instruction, and assessment to the Next Generation Science Standards Science and the PA Core Reading and Writing in Science and Technical Subjects Standards 1.5 Continue to increase the percentage of students with Superintendent, Principals, disabilities served within the regular education Special Education classroom Coordinator 1.6 Continue to decrease the percentage of students with Superintendent, Principals, disabilities served in settings outside the school Special Education district Coordinator 1.7 Align curriculum to special education student needs Superintendent, Principals per the Rubicon Atlas system Special Education Coordinator 1.8 Continue to update/expand instructional technology Superintendent, Principals, and training in order to improve student achievement Technology Staff 1.9 Incorporate STEAM modules and 21 st Century Superintendent, Principals skills into instruction and assessment, Technology Staff 1.10 Continue to improve the use of data obtained from CDA, Superintendent, Curriculum PVASS, and e-metric, as well as, results from PSSA/ Keystone Exams, DIBELS, Study Island, ALEKS, benchmark, USA Test prep and other assessments to improve student achievement and classroom instruction 1.11 Provide the necessary professional development to support Superintendent, Curriculum the initiatives noted above Special Education Coordinator 2. To improve the curricular and extracurricular programs offered in the district in order to better prepare students to meet state and federal mandates and develop exit skills that will ensure students success beyond high school Action Plan for Goal #2: 2.1 Integrate PA Common Core English/Language Arts Superintendent, Curriculum and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects Standards throughout the appropriate curriculum with an emphasis on critical thinking 2.2 Integrate PA Common Core Literacy and Mathematics Superintendent, Curriculum Standards into the fine and practical arts, family and consumer science and foreign language curricula with an emphasis on critical thinking

3 Continuous Improvement Plan Page Align and implement physical education/health program Superintendent, Curriculum with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Scope and Sequence Health/PE 2.4 Continue to refine and reinforce the Olweus Bullying Superintendent, Principals Prevention Program K-12, Social Worker, Guidance Counselors 2.5 Refine the use of the isafe program in selected areas of the Superintendent, Curriculum curriculum in order to educate all students about appropriate on-line behavior, Technology Staff 2.6 Continue to investigate taking back ESL services from the Superintendent, Principals, Allegheny Intermediate Unit Special Ed. Coordinator, 2.7 Continue to investigate restructuring the gifted support Superintendent, Special Ed. program Coord., Curriculum Coord., Principals, Gifted Teacher 2.8 Continue to expand the Transition Program to include regular Supt., Special Ed. Coordinator, education students as well as special needs students Principals, Transition Coord., 2.9 Continue to increase the number of students with Supt., Special Ed. Coordinator, disabilities participating in the development and Principals, presentation of their IEP s 2.10 Continue to expand Crisis Prevention Intervention training Supt., Special Ed. Coordinator, to the staff Principals, 2.11 Continue to monitor and evaluate all extracurricular Superintendent, Principals, programs and recommend changes as needed Athletic/Activities Director 2.12 Provide the necessary professional development to Superintendent, Principals, support the initiatives noted above 3. To improve communications within the district, with parents, and with the community Action Plan for Goal #3 3.1 Investigate improvements to the special education link on the Superintendent, Special Ed. school district website Coordinator, Technology Staff

4 Continuous Improvement Plan Page Improve the process of updating changes to information on the Superintendent, Technology school district website in a timely manner Staff, Principals, 3.3 Investigate the use of additional communications tools Superintendent, Technology to provide relevant school and school district information Staff, Principals, to appropriate stakeholder groups 3.4 Investigate additional methods to increase parent, senior citizen, Superintendent, Principals, and community involvement with and in the school district 3.5 Continue to provide parent education sessions as defined by Superintendents, Principals, through district parent surveys 3.6 Continue to maintain contact with the presidents of Superintendent organizations recognized by the school district 4. To improve the overall appearance, upkeep, safety and security of all facilities Action Plan for Goal #4: 4.1 Continue to investigate the most cost effective solution to Superintendent, Director correct any water runoff problems that exist on the grounds of of Elroy and Moore Elementary Schools 4.2 Continue the daily custodial practice of walking the perimeter Superintendent, Director of each school district facility in order to police the grounds of as needed 4.3 Convert the current analog security camera system to a digital Superintendent, Director of closed-circuit security camera system that will provide high image resolution and the capability for future expansion of the security camera system 4.4 Refine the use of the Raptor visitor Superintendent, Director of management system 4.5 Refine the use of the access control system Superintendent, Director of (ACS) at all schools 4.6 Enhance lockdown training for staff and students Superintendent, Director of 4.7 Investigate additional approaches to improve facility Superintendent, Director of operational efficiency 4.8 Provide additional in-service training to maintenance, Superintendent, Director of custodial, and security staffs at least three times per year

Action Plan for Goal #5: 5.1 Build upon the paper Purchase Order (PO) process by Superintendent, Business gaining a better understanding of the Skyward processes available 5.2 Utilize the Skyward bank reconciliation process in order Superintendent, Business to reduce external auditor costs 5.3 Project a two-year future General Fund operating budget Superintendent, Business 5.4 Continue the implementation and monitoring of the new Superintendent, Business purchasing card program 5.5 Continue to monitor delinquent tax accounts and balances Superintendent, Business Manager, Solicitor 5.6 Report monthly to the administrative/supervisory staff regarding the current fiscal year budget and the current fiscal year budget and future years.
