2 ARTICULATION AGREEMENT between Paramedic Training Program and Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Studies Article I - Agreement on Principle: (WCC) and (HVA) agree that any student who has completed a program from paramedic training program may transfer a maximum ofthirty-five (5) credits to toward the Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Studies (APOST) degree (see attachment). The credit hours transferred from HVA will apply as occupational technical credits toward the minimum 60 credit hours required for an APOST degree. All other standard curriculum requirements, including general education, of must be met. A curricular guide has been developed which outlines these areas of agreement. Article II - Agreement of Program Specifics: The following plan will allow students who have completed the requirements for the Medical First Responder (MFR), Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Medical Technician - Specialist (EMT-S), and Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic (EMT-P) at to transfer a maximum of thirty-five (5) elective credits toward an A.A.S. in Occupational Studies at. 1. Attachment A outlines the Curriculum Guide and Credit Evaluation for the Emergency Medical Services program. Students, who successfully complete one of the four programs listed in Attachment A, may transfer a maximum of 5 credits of electives to. These credits may be applied toward an Associate in Occupational Studies with an emphasis in Emergency Medical Services. 2. An additional 2-26 credits in courses that meet the general education distribution should be earned at, and are needed to meet the IScredit residency requirement and the general education requirements for the A.A.S. Degree. A recommended set of courses to meet the general education requirements is also listed in Attachment A. This agreement does not prohibit students from taking courses other than the ones listed here as long as the selected courses meet the WCC general education requirements.. Each transfer student from will be advised of the essentials needed to apply for admission to WCC, as outline on the WCC Website available at: 2
3 Article III - Agreement on Communication: and agree to cooperate in communication with each other and with common and respective publics concerning the established relationships between programs at WCC and HV A. Communication will include the development of various kinds of publications to inform people who might benefit personally and professionally from the opportunities provided by an associate degree earned at Washtenaw Community College based on completion of an EMT- Paramedic program. WCC and HV A further agree to communicate concerning curriculum changes, which may affect the agreed-upon relationships between programs at the respective institutions. Article IV - Agreement on Joint Enrollment: and agree to encourage joint enrollment where this is advantageous to students. For some students, taking one or more classes at each of the respected institutions during a certain semester may produce a program tailored to individual needs. In such cases, students would enroll for classes separately at the two institutions, arranging class schedules appropriate to their needs. Article V - Maintenance and Review Body and Procedures: At least one administrative or faculty member from each institution will be appointed to act as agents for the implementation of this agreement and to communicate changes to respective faculty members, advisors, counselors and others to whom the information is pertinent. wee and HV A agree to communicate annually any curriculum changes in their respective programs that may affect this articulation agreement and to review the agreement for revision and possible renewal during the third year. This agreement is effective as of March 16, 2015 and until March 15,2018.
4 ARTICULATION AGREEMENT between Paramedic Training Program and Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Studies and agree to the terms of this agreement, which will be for an initial period of three () years. During the third year, both parties will review the agreement for revisions and renewal. If the agreement is not renewed by the end of the fourth year, it will be discontinued. 6 Attachment B and Course Descriptions Medical First Responder (MFR): 90 classroom This course is designed to provide the student with the core skills necessary to sustain life, prevent further injury, and reduce pain at the scene of an emergency until more advanced help arrives. The course teaches basic safety at the scene of an emergency, fundamentals of patient assessment, basic airway control methods, emergency splinting and hemorrhage control, and other specialty topics. The course includes the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers course. Students who successfully complete this course meet Michigan MDCH requirements for the Medical First Responder license. Prerequisites: 18 years of age. Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT-B): 186 classroom/2 clinical/48 internship This course is designed to prepare you to pass the NREMT EMT -B exams and work as a competent entry-level EMT-B. In this course you will gain the knowledge and skills to properly assess and manage a variety of injuries and illnesses. You will learn emergency scene management, introductory anatomy and physiology, the medical-legal concerns of pre-hospital emergency care, airway management, spinal and bone/joint mechanics, principles of ambulance operation, and many specialty topics. The course includes the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible to challenge the National Registry certification examination for EMT- Basic. Prerequisites: 18 years of age -High School Diploma orged Emergency Medical Technician Specialist (EMT-S): 110 classroom/2 clinical/48 internship This course builds on the knowledge and skill of the Basic EMT. The course includes a review of select material from the Basic EMT course. Specialized topics include the physiology of shock, intravenous line placement, advanced airway techniques, and an introduction to acid-base balance. This course has mandatory clinical elements including an advanced airway rotation. Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to challenge the National Registry certification examination for EMT - Specialist. Prerequisites: Current Michigan EMT Basic license- 18 years of age -HS. Diploma or GED Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P): 600 classroom/256 clinical/264 internship This course prepares the student to deliver emergency care to acutely illand injured patients. The course includes a review of normal human structure and function and the elements of many common emergent conditions. This course provides training in physical assessment and history taking, pharmacology including the mechanism of action, metabolism, and excretion of medications, electrophysiology of the heart and other topics. This course teaches the student important field clinical skills including endotracheal intubation, intravenous line placement, EKG interpretation, defibrillation, and the safe administration of emergency medications, and more. The student will be required to complete specified clinical rotations in order to successfully complete the course. Students who complete this course will be eligible to challenge the National Registry certification examination for EMT Paramedic. Prerequisites: Current Michigan EMT Basic or EMT Specialist License -18 years of age- HS Diploma or GED. 6
