1 ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR) ENHANCEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 SUMMARY MPAGES UPGRADE MPages were upgraded at the end of August. (MPages are also known as widgets.) Cerner has recently focused on enhancement updates in order to fix known MPage issues. Addition of Venue Field A new Venue field appears on the Quick Orders page. The venue will default to All. Important If the user changes this view, it will limit what is viewable in the widgets accordingly. The New Order Entry + widget will hold the last venue selected for that session if it has been changed. P a g e 1

2 New View for Quick Orders (Scratch pad) The new order scratch pad now contains headers to separate the different order types. 1. Click Quick Orders on the table of contents menu. 2. Click the Orders for Signature button to open the scratch pad. SIMPLIFIED ORDERING FOR PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTS IN POWERCHART LHSC ONLY The ordering process when ordering Pulmonary Function (PF) tests in PowerChart at LHSC will be simplified as of September 15, Add Order 1. While in the patient s chart, click Add Orders on the table of contents menu. 2. In the Search field type resp or PF. 3. Select the appropriate PF Module. P a g e 2

3 Reason for Referral 1. Select the test. 2. Right-click on the selected test and choose Modify. 3. Click the Reason for Referral drop-arrow and choose a reason. Ordering Multiple PF Tests When ordering multiple tests, if the Reason for Referral is the same for each test, complete the reason for all orders at the same time. 1. Hold the Ctrl-key down and click on all the tests you are ordering. (If the orders are sequential you can hold down your left mouse button and drag over all orders to select them.) 2. Right-click on a selected test and choose Modify. 3. Click the Reason for Referral drop-arrow. 4. Select more than one reason by holding the Ctrl-key and clicking all the relevant reasons. P a g e 3

4 Inpatient Module Use this module for patients who will be inpatients when their PF testing is required. Not all tests are available to inpatients. Some will need to be booked as an outpatient e.g. Exercise Studies and Methacholine Challenge. Important: A Consult to Respirology is required before ordering a Full PF Test on an inpatient. If you order a Full Pulmonary Function Test, it includes: Spirometry Lung Volumes DLCO Blood Gas Important If you have ordered a Full PF Test you should not order individual Spirometry, Lung Volumes or Blood Gas in the Individual Pulmonary Function Test section. The same applies to the Full Pulmonary Function Test Without Blood Gas. Outpatient Module Use this module for patients who will be outpatients when their PF testing is required. If you order a Full Pulmonary Function Test, it includes: Spirometry Lung Volumes DLCO Blood Gas P a g e 4

5 Important If you have ordered a Full PF Test you should not order individual Spirometry, Lung Volumes or Blood Gas in the Individual Pulmonary Function Test section. The same applies to the Full Pulmonary Function Test Without Blood Gas. Orders Placed on Inactive Encounters Residents and nurse practitioners will be prompted to enter an attending physician on inactive encounters for orders placed in PowerChart. The pop up message will appear after the order is signed and the Attending Physician field is not completed. If you are ordering more than one PF test, you can hold your Ctrl key down and highlight all the tests you are ordering and choose Modify. That way you will only need to complete the Attending Physician field once. Pop Up Message 1. Select Continue to Modify. 2. Enter the Attending Physician. P a g e 5
