6 Example for PC Choose the Basic Package.exe file on the site Follow instruc1ons provided on the site for installa1on Recommended not to install under C:\Program Files Where to? C:\xampp

7 Control Panel A`er installa1on open XAMPP Control Panel Start both Apache and MySql Make sure both are Running

8 Admin Click on Admin to log on to phpmyadmin

9 phpmyadmin Home Screen

10 You MUST Create a Username and Password Select the Privileges tab

11 Select Add a new User

12 Use These EXACT Inputs and Press Go at the BoRom busdata Don t forget to select this option! Select Go at bottom

14 Import the Database Schema Find the Import tab and click on it Download the localhost.sql file on t-square, click on Choose File, and select the localhost.sql file Lastly, hit Go

15 Downloading the backup.sql.gz file After downloading the backup.sql.gz file from T-Square you need to unzip it. Copy and paste the backup.sql file to the XAMPP>mysql>bin folder. If you are unsure where to put it, the mysql.exe file must be in the folder you place backup.sql in

16 Open the Command Prompt in Windows **Note: The example is in Windows. For Macs skip a few slides Directory The directory must be changed to the location that you just put the backup.sql file. (XAMPP>mysql>bin)

17 Changing the Directory In Windows type cd {location of your xampp>mysql>bin folder} and hit enter My directory is changed. **Note yours may be different depending on where your folders are located

18 Impor1ng the Database Finally Now type mysql - uvipproject - pbusdata vipproject < backup.sql and hit enter If you did this correctly it will take several minutes and a new empty command line will appear. Check your database to see if the 6,638,927 records are in your table. Be patient. If you do not receive an error message it is probably working.

19 Impor1ng Database for Macs Unzip the backup.sql file and place in / Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/

20 Impor1ng Database for Macs Open Terminal and type the following and hit enter: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/mysql -uvipproject -pbusdata vipproject < /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/backup.sql Again this will take some time to complete

21 If you get an error Common Mistakes Make sure you created a username and password with the exact inputs in the slides. (case marers) Make sure you imported the localhost.sql file and that the database/tables are there Make sure you unzipped and copied the backup.sql file (The FILE not the folder) into the xampp>mysql>bin folder. Remember that this folder should also contain the file mysql.exe Make sure you changed the directory of command prompt/terminal to the xampp>mysql>bin folder

24 Crea1ng a Basic SQL Statement Press SQL Tabe to open the SQL statement editor Statement goes here List of Fields in table

25 3 Main Components of SQL Statement SELECT clause determines what fields you want returned and are separated by commas. Remember that * means all fields will be returned FROM clause determines which tables/databases you are selec1ng from. Since we will most likely be selec1ng from only 1 database, a table name is sufficient. More complex opera1ons like table joins can also be done here WHERE clause is where all condi1ons are placed to select certain records
