4 Expanding the Network The trend to IP is firmly established. How is IP alone making a difference today in security installations? 7 IP Trends 80% of respondents purchase IP-based video surveillance systems/products from IT distributors. Growing to 90% in 3 years. Systems integrators are highly influential in deciding which IP-based video surveillance products are chosen; IT managers and physical security managers follow closely. 45% thought they dealt with IT managers slightly more and 19% significantly more, than they did one year ago. 6% said slightly less. The government, airport, port, railway and healthcare sectors appeared to be purchasing mostly IP-based systems; retail, mostly analog systems. 8 4

7 Key Challenges (Integrator View) We already have Access Control, Video, Intrusion, etc. No holistic network (interconnected vs. integrated) When will we see Fence Intrusion Detection (FID), mass notification, video synopsis, tailgate detection (optical turnstiles), key management, GPS, RFID & so much more. 9 Holistic Security Network Definition Part 1 A system where a variety of sensor elements (e.g. video, seismic, passive infrared, chemical, radiological) can be easily assimilated into a unifiedhardware-and software-controlled environment. Holistic Security Network Definition Part 2 This network will take advantage of the aggregation of granular informationfrom the sensor elements to create a collaborative data fusion in which the system will monitor and analyze data simultaneously from each single element and the collective. 9

10 Holistic Security Network Definition Part 3 It will coordinate the delivery of accurate, actionable intelligence, warnings and alarm notifications to responders with minimal human interaction. What about PSIM How has the introduction of PSIM contributed to the holistic security network? What are the current limitations? 20 10

11 PSIM (Physical Security Information Management) There is confusionover what constitutes PSIM and its typical features and functionalities. While vendors of competitive products are not expected to capitalize on PSIM opportunities within the enterprise/highend market, they are expected to significantly reduce the market opportunity for PSIM in the mid and low-end markets. A consequence of the rich features and functionalities inherent within a PSIM platform is a higher avg. price. Broad feature set of a PSIM platform is not suitable or desirable for every end-user vertical; PSIM can be overkill. 21 PSIM (Integrator View) Industry Definition a category of software that provides a platform and applications created by middleware developers, designed to integrate multiple unconnected security applications and devices controllingthem through one comprehensive user interface.
