8 Geospatial Data Coordination among U.S. Federal Agencies Geospatial information serves as a key backdrop to many government processes and services. The U.S. Department of the Interior collects a full spectrum of geospatial data and provides other organizations with access to it. Geospatial Field Appraisal and Property Change Detection A new specialized version of ERDAS IMAGINE has been created for the Property Assessment market that shortens the process for determining real property changes over time. Learn how a batchable process can automatically detect change at the parcel level, supported by a simple quality assurance step provided within the interface. Furthermore, we will demonstrate how ERDAS APOLLO can be used up front to manage this data and feed the results into our Smart Client Field Appraisal solution. Many field appraisers still update property record cards on paper, and turn these in for manual entry using a back office system. Today, new geospatially-based field appraisal tools are available within GeoMedia Smart Client that enable the review and update of property attributes and sketches from the field, using Windows-based tablets. Updates to attributes and sketches are automatically pushed to the enterprise system, thus removing the potential for double entry and reducing the risk of introducing errors. In addition, this approach can be used to keep GIS building outlines in sync with building sketches, enabling property valuation to include current geo-reference information such as property position and orientation. Watershed DEM Creation Using Orthophotography The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority s pilot project evaluated automated processes for generating the DEM and resulting products, including hydrological networks, flood plain delineation, and watercourse feature collection. New methods of DEM creation are now employed for a more accurate and faster DEM creation. The Semi-Global Matching (SGM) algorithm will be showcased and is available in the IMAGINE Photogrammetry and ImageStation photogrammetry software packages. This SGM algorithm produces RGB-encoded dense point clouds that can be easily edited and formatted into any other TIN or Grid file for uses like flooding and volume calculation. Join us and see how these techniques were utilized and enabled an accurate flood analysis for the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. Crowdsourcing to Optimize Public Works and Utilities Crowdsourcing is an efficient means to outsource data collection to a larger group of people. Making use of the crowd to report about city infrastructure is quickly growing in popularity. Empowering citizens to report on issues helps resource-thin public works agencies and utility companies by providing them with an added source of actionable information. It also creates an opportunity to use technology to save time and money, plus improve accountability to those in the community they serve.
