1 Scribe Adapter for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Requirements Version 4.0 Release Date January 28, 2008 Insight 6.2 or higher Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.x, 4.x, or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 or higher What s new in version 4.0 of the adapter Support for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 and CRM Live The adapter now supports Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.x and has basic support for Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live. This adapter also supports Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.x and it replaces the Adapter 3.5 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Adapter built on new SDK API Using the updated API brings the adapter in line with the latest technology and allows Scribe to add additional features to the adapter in future versions. This reworking of the adapter also lays the foundation for supporting CRM Live. Support for multiple organizations The adapter supports the multi-organization capability of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. When a new organization is created in the Deployment Manager, it creates a new Microsoft Dynamics CRM database for the new organization. Revision B / 28-Jan Scribe Software Corporation 1

2 New login options Release Notes The adapter s Login dialog box includes new fields for the organization and for the version number of Dynamics CRM. When logging in, enter the version number as 3.0 or 4.0. New Help Easy to follow step-by-step instructions for common tasks. Includes installation, set up, and testing instructions everything you need to get the adapter up and running. Metadata caching This version of the adapter uses metadata caching to improve adapter performance when creating and opening DTS files. When the adapter connects to a new Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization for the first time, it caches the metadata in the Scribe Insights server s database. Each time the adapter connects to a Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization, it checks to see if that organizations metadata has changed, such as if new entities or new attributes have been added. If the adapter detects that the metadata for the organization has changed, it downloads new metadata and updates it in the Scribe Insight server s database. Integration mode updates When working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 systems and with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live systems, integration mode is enabled using DTS files that are included with the adapter installation. When used with those versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the Integration Mode tab is no longer available in Scribe s Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server Configuration Utility. The Integration Mode tab is still there when working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 systems. Updated user counting Microsoft Dynamics CRM now includes an option for limited use users. These limited use users are not included in the adapter user count Scribe Software Corporation 2

3 Memory leaks fixed Several memory leaks in the adapter were fixed. Case number Publisher problem with child objects fixed There were virtual adapter objects visible in the list of child objects that were causing this problem. The virtual objects are no longer visible on the list when configuring the publisher. Case number GUID values handled consistently The Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK API returns GUID values to Scribe s adapter in lower case or in upper case, depending on the API call made. This situation was causing problems with customers that had case sensitive SCRIBEINTERNAL databases. To eliminate the possibility of any problems caused by this inconsistent handling of GUID values, the adapter will now set the GUID values to upper case for use in Scribe Insight features such as the publisher, the adapter proper, and key cross reference. This change does not affect the way the GUID values are stored in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM database. This change should resolve any future problems with GUID values on case sensitive databases. If your SCRIBEINTERNAL database is case sensitive, and you are using the key cross reference feature, this change to the adapter s behavior could impact your integration. If you are using a case sensitive SCRIBEINTERNAL database, check the KEYCROSSREFERENCE and KEYCROSSREFERENCETWOWAY tables, or any other tables used for key cross reference information, to see if there are GUID values in it that are in lower case. If you find this situation, write a script or create a Scribe DTS file to convert the lower case GUID values to upper case. You can use the Microsoft SQL Server administrative tools, such as the Management Studio, to check if your database is case sensitive. In Database Properties, check the Collation. Case sensitive database usually have the letters CS near the end of the collation sequence name. Case number Scribe Software Corporation 3

4 Adapter limitations Known issues Release Notes Publisher limitations The Publisher for Microsoft Dynamics CRM does not work with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live systems. The publisher also does not support multiple organizations. The publisher only works with the first organization that was configured on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. A Scribe query publisher can be used to get data out of a multiorganization Microsoft Dynamics CRM server in place of the Publisher for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This is a workaround for both of the aforementioned limitations. Company Match limitations The Company Match feature does not work with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live systems. It also does not support multiple organizations. Company Match only works with the first organization that was configured on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. Cancelled orders do not produce a message Cancelling an order in Microsoft Dynamics CRM does not produce a message. Scribe believes this to be because of a problem with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM callout mechanism. You can work around this problem by creating a query publisher that uses the Adapter for Dynamics CRM as its connection. Problems changing status and state code on non- English systems On non-english systems, the adapter is not able to work with update some picklist values. An example of this is trying to update on opportunity to the WON status. The workaround for this problem involves editing the related picklist information in the adapter metadata Scribe Software Corporation 4
