May 2: Baccalaureate May 3: Commencement May 5: May Mini Term Begins Summer Long Session Begins Michelle Hahn of Athens was recipient of the B.T. Hutson Best Overall Business Administration Student Award for She was also named to Who s Who Among Students in American Universities in Colleges. Michelle completed a double emphasis in Professional Accounting and Finance, and was a member of Phi Beta Lambda. Following graduation, Michelle plans to take the C.P.A. exam and enter the accounting profession. Michelle Hahn June 2: Summer Session 1 Begins June 30: Summer Session 2 Begins The 2014 Marketing Award was presented to Jayden Morrison of Port Franks, Ontario, Canada. Jayden was a member of the TWC women s tennis team. Following graduation, Jayden plans to run a tennis camp for children. August 18: Fall Classes Begin December 12: Baccalaureate & Commencement Jayden Morrison Ramon Rivera of Honduras was recipient of the International Management Award. During the honors convocation, Ramon also received the TWC Intern of the Year Award, the Ann Vaught Daugherty Award (Student Life), and was named to Who s Who Among Students in American Universities in Colleges. All students are invited to join Phi Beta Lambda. For information, contact Mrs. Stacy Swafford, (423) Ramon completed a double emphasis in International Management and Marketing, with a minor in Sociology. He was a member of Phi Beta Lambda and served as the organization s Reporter. Following graduation, Ramon plans to seek employment in the Nashville area. (story continued on page 2) Ramon Rivera
2 Honors Convocation continued from page 1 Brandi Lasley of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, was recipient of the Human Resource Management Award. Brandi completed a double emphasis in Human Resource Management and Healthcare Management. She was a member of the TWC women s softball team, and a member of Phi Beta Lambda. Following graduation, Brandi plans to enter the workforce. Matthew Crabtree Katie Carr McKeehanon Rue Matthew Crabtree of Etowah received the Healthcare Management Award. Matthew completed an emphasis in Healthcare Management, which included a successful internship at Skyridge Medical Center in Cleveland. He served as Vice President of Phi Beta Lambda. He is employed as an organist for the North Etowah Baptist Church. Following graduation, he plans to enter the Healthcare Management field and complete a M.B.A. degree. Katie Carr of Cleveland received the Accounting Award for Katie completed a double emphases in Accounting and Healthcare Management. She was a member of Phi Beta Lambda and currently is completing an internship at the accounting firm of Coulter & Justus, P.C. in Knoxville. Laura Purkey of Athens was recipient of the Human Resource Management Award. She served as treasurer of Phi Beta Lamda. Laura currently works in Deposit Operations for Athens Federal Community Bank. McKeehanon Rue of Athens received the General Management Award. He plans to continue his education at TWC in the business department by completing a second emphasis in Finance. McKeehanon stated the following: I am thankful for my parents, as well as the never ending guidance of Christ. Stephanie Carr of Amherstburg, Ontario, Canda, was recipient of the Finance Award. Stephanie completed a double emphasis in Finance and Accounting. She plans to return to Canada following graduation to enter the financial services filed, and complete a graduate degree in in Business. Brandi Lasley Laura Purkey Stephanie Carr
3 Honors Convocation continued from page 2 3 Hunter Sullivan of Athens was recipient of the Business Administration Award in Honor of Valerie Carter Tipps. Hunter is completing a double emphasis in General Management and Accounting. He currently works in the landscaping industry. Following graduation, Hunter plans to pass the C.P.A. exam and complete a M.B.A. degree. Hunter stated that he was thankful for the blessings God has given me. Tanner Bivens Tanner Bivens of Athens was recipient of the Business Administration Award in Memory of Allen H. Carter. Tanner is completing a double emphasis in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. He is the incoming Vice President of Phi Beta Lamda. Tanner plans to seek employment in the C.I.S. field following graduation. Hunter Sullivan Brooke Fincher of Greeneville, TN, received the President s Volunteer Service Award from the TWC Center for Servant Leadership. Brooke is completing a double emphasis in Accounting and Human Resource Management, and is a member of Phi Beta Lambda. Following graduation, she plans to attend graduate school and work for the ranching industry as an accountant. Timothy Kukla Jr. of Naperville, Illinois, received the Balfour Award (Student Life). Timothy is completing a double emphasis in International Management and General Management. He serves as a Resident Advisor for TWC, and also works at Ruby Tuesday as a server/trainer. He is the president of Bulldogs Care4 St. Jude and a member of Phi Beta Lambda. Hayden Gibson of Sweetwater was recipient of the Harrison Hart Outstanding Library Assistant Award. Hayden completed an emphasis in Accounting, and works as a Credit Analyst for Citizens National Bank. Brooke Fincher Tim Kukla Hayden Gibson Congratulations to all of our award recipients!!!
4 Honors Convocation continued from page 3 Kristen Camp of Chattanooga received the Dr. Floyd Jack Bowling Award for modeling the qualities of Dr. Bowling through leadership, academic success, exemplary service and loyalty to TWC. Kristen was also recognized as the outgoing Treasurer of S.G.A. and will serve the student body as President of S.G.A. beginning with the school year. She is also the outgoing President of Phi Beta Lambda. Kristen is completing a double emphasis in Accounting and Human Resource Management. She recently interned at Athens Federal Community Bank and is currently completing an internship at Miller & McPhail, CPA's. Smith Award for Academic Advising during the annual Honors Day Convocation. 5 Farlow Promoted to Project Manager 5 Bryan Farlow, a member of the TWC Business Advisory Council and TWC alumnus, was recently promoted to Project Manager for the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD). In his new role, Mr. Farlow is responsible for the sectors of Advanced Manufacturing and Warehousing, Transportation, Distribution and Logistics. Beginning at TNECD in 2012 as a Business Development Consultant for the Southeast region, Mr. Farlow facilitated existing industry expansions and recruited new industries to the area totaling more than $250 million in investment and creating more than 1,110 jobs. He joined TNECD after serving as a Regional Planner in the Southeast region. Mr. Bryan Farlow He received his baccalaureate degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College. Mr. Farlow completed additional coursework at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services. The mission of TWC's Business Advisory Council is to serve as a communication link between TWC and the local business community. The BAC assesses program needs, provides vital professional advice, develops internship opportunities, recommends business contacts as potential parttime instructors or guest speakers, and assists in developing career and job fairs. COORDINATOR OF BUSINESS INTERNSHIPS Mr. Tony Bryant Mr. Tony Bryant, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, has been named the Coordinator of Business Internships for the Business Administration department. Mr. Bryant will work with area employers and Business Administration majors in communicating internship opportunities and placing students with various organizations.
