Catalog Description: Study of contemporary cost management tools and business strategy. II. Required Background or Experience: A. Prerequisites: ACCT 3232 B. Prerequisite Justification: Students will benefit more from this course if they understand basic product costing techniques, are familiar with master and flexible budgets, basic C-V-P analysis, and standard cost-variance analysis. C. General Education (Core) Contributions: This course uses the writing skills developed in English, the oral skills developed in Speech, the critical thinking and analysis abilities developed in Mathematics, and the knowledge gained in ACCT 2101, ACCT 2102, and ACCT III. 2 This course explores the contemporary role of the management accountant. Emphasis is placed on strategic partnering and the use of new managerial tools to create firm value. The class will be conducted as a seminar requiring extensive student participation. B. Instructional Methods: 1) Topic Coverage - Student teams will be assigned various topics to be covered in the course for presentation (modules and readings) purposes. The presentations are expected to be in-depth. Each team is expected to augment their presentations with multi-media. Case solutions should include a cover page (with the usual information), a summary of case facts, and case questions with individual question solutions. If you make assumptions, state them. Failure to follow these instructions will impact case grade. This is a seminar. You are expected to participate. 2) BE AWARE THAT THE EVALUATION METHODS ARE SUBJECTIVE. As such, the only opinion that counts is MY OPINION. VII. Methods of Evaluating Outcome: A. Evaluation: 1.
