Her practice is focused on class actions, principally in the fields of telecommunications, consumer law, product liability and banking law. She directs a team of seasoned lawyers who have developed significant expertise in these areas. Marie has been retained as defence counsel in more than forty class actions by a wide range of clients, including large corporations such as Bell Canada, parapublic corporations such as the Agence métropolitaine de transport, as well as the Quebec Bar's Professional Liability Insurer to defend lawyers sued by way of class action. She has also argued on the plaintiff side before the Supreme Court of Canada in a landmark class action regarding municipal taxation, Marcotte v. Longueuil, 2009 SCC 43. Marie is highly regarded for her extensive experience, comprehensive vision, and ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. In 2013, she was awarded the distinction Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) by the Barreau du Québec. REPRESENTATIVE WORK Marie has acted as lead counsel for: Agence métropolitaine de transport in a class action following a mass transit strike. Bank of Nova Scotia in a class action involving vehicle financing insurance premiums. Bank of Nova Scotia in a class action alleging the failure to disclose cash rebates in vehicle financing contracts. Bell Canada in a class action involving early termination fees and 30-day deactivation fees for landline telephone service. Bell Canada in a class action involving the throttling of internet traffic. Bell Canada in a class action involving early termination fees for internet and television services.
2 Bell Mobility in a class action involving late payment charges. Bell Mobility in a class action involving early termination fees for wireless service. Bureau en Gros in a class action alleging misrepresentations as to extended warranties. Best Buy Canada in a class action involving misleading advertising. GlaxoSmithKline in a class action relating to Requip, a dopamine agonist medication. Kativik School Board in a class action alleging institutional abuse. Purdue Pharma in a class action relating to OxyContin, an opiate analgesic medication. The Québec Bar's Professional Liability Insurer in a class action alleging prosecutorial abuse. The Québec Bar's Professional Liability Insurer in a class action alleging defamation. Torys LLP in a class action involving Conrad Black and Hollinger and allegations of non-disclosure of information to investors. Bank of America in a major commercial banking dispute.
