AACSB International and Association of African Business Schools AABS Connect: Annual Conference 2015
AACSB MISSION AACSB Interna, onal advances quality management educa,on worldwide through accredita,on, thought leadership and value- added services.
AABS Case Study: Background Higher educa,on in your country is growing quickly, both in terms of providers and students, as it has been a government priority to increase access. Addi, onally OECD reports that the growth of college age students will increase drama, cally over the next 20 years. The government has not only allowed for the expansion of public universi,es but also for the entry of private higher educa,on providers. You ve been asked to develop plans for a new business school at your established public university. The university has a department of economics and business, as it known more for social sciences educa,on. It has a law school and, in 10 years ago the university added an engineering school and an agriculture school, and has plans to build a medical school. Among other public universi,es, yours has a solid but not elite reputa,on. There are two other more elite public universi,es in the city, and both have business schools with western- style MBA programs. Growing young popula,on and middle class. Increasingly mobile across borders within Africa and across the world. The city has an excellent base of employers, but has struggled to differen, ate itself. The president is highly ambi, ous and has poli, cal aspira, ons.
Your 1 st Challenge Exercise 1 The president has asked your group to develop 1) A Mission Statement for a Business School and: 2) A list of five strategic priori,es for the next five years. Work together to develop the mission statement and the list of priori,es, priori, zed from highest to lowest. Es,mate the propor,on of total es,mated costs for each.
Your 2 nd Challenge Exercise 2 The dean has been asked to submit plans and budget requests to recruit the first set of faculty members over the course of next five years. In your group, develop ini,al plans, including: 1) Priority of faculty hired by discipline 2) Projected size and general characteris,cs by department or discipline, and 3) Approximate budget (in Euros) required over the next 3 years.
Your 3 rd Challenge Working with your group, priori,ze your business degree programs that you plan to launch over the 1 st 5 years of opera,on. Will your business school also be engaged in Execu,ve Educa,on programs?

2020 Committee Recommendations Establish a Global Improvement Network Project. Provide regionalized services. Expand AACSB as the central node for global business school informa,on.
Global Improvement Network Launch The GIN pilot project will span a 24- month period star,ng in the fiscal year. Comple,on of the GIN pilot project will result in the following benefits to AACSB: Enhanced knowledge and informa,on about the current status of business educa,on in emerging economy regions Expanded DATADIRECT par, cipa,on Strengthened AACSB presence in emerging economies
Global Improvement Network Philosophy AACSB s mission is to advance management educa,on worldwide through accredita,on, thought leadership and value- added services. By engaging with a small number of schools, we will help schools make progress on a quality improvement journey while AACSB gains valuable informa,on about business educa,on in regions where we have not geographically engaged schools significantly in the past.
Structure of GIN Cohorts It is expected that most schools recruited for the GIN pilot project will come from developing regions across the globe In each of these areas, 4-6 schools will be selected to form a cohort. Each cohort will engage with two coaches or mentors recruited from within the region
