2 Who do we see? This service is for young people years who are engaged in, or are at significant risk of serious violence, sexually inappropriate behaviour and/or fire-setting. We also see young people with an emerging anti-social or Borderline Personality Disorder alongside their offending behaviour. Such young people may have exhausted available local CAMHS resources. We offer psychological assessment and treatment for young people and their families and consultation, supervision, teaching and training to other professionals. Referrals can come from YOS officers, CAMHS practitioners, Social Services, Tier 3 CAMHS services, courts or solicitors. Who is in the team: consultant clinical psychologist clinical psychologists. "Diversion of these young people into mental health services can reduce the risk of reoffending, promote a range of other positive outcomes and save costs across a range of public services (Sainsbury Centre, 2009)."
3 What assessments do we offer? Our service provides comprehensive assessments of young people in both community and secure settings. Forensic assessments can help to determine: cognitive functioning (eg IQ assessment) capacity to plead/stand trial risk and dangerousness mental health diagnosis (eg autism, ADHD, PTSD) neuropsychological functioning (eg impulsivity, executive functioning) the potential impact of mental health disorders on criminal behaviour appropriate sentencing and/or placements appropriate care plans or psychological treatment needs.
